And now it's story time.
Over the hill and round the bend you'll find a large roundhouse called Tidmouth Sheds where five little engines sleep soundly at night and wake in the morning as the sun shines its light.
They all have work to do and cargo to tow.
For this happy crew, it's all engines go.
Today's story is all about what happens when good friends stop being friends.
It's called letting off steam.
Thomas and Percy are usually the best of friends.
They love spending time together playing games and helping each other with their deliveries.
But one day, Thomas and Percy weren't getting along so well.
They argued about who had the most important job.
When they arrived back at Tidmouth, Percy rushed to collect his mail train, but he spun too fast on the turntable.
Ah!
Yikes!
And the mail car tipped over.
Thud!
And Percy's mail spilt all over the tracks.
Oh!
Poor Percy.
Thomas laughed and laughed.
He thought Percy's accident was very funny.
But Nia could see Percy was upset.
Are you OK? she asked him.
Percy was fine, except that Thomas had hurt Percy's feelings.
Thomas, I can't believe my best friend is laughing at me, said Percy.
Well, you've got to admit it was pretty funny, replied Thomas.
Look, I'll show you.
And Thomas raced towards the turntable to copy Percy's accident.
Woo!
Woo!
Wah! shouted Thomas as he spun faster and faster.
But then... Whee!
Thomas flew off the turntable and crashed into the water tower.
Clang!
The tower spilt water all over Thomas.
Splash!
Oh dear, now he's completely soaked.
Percy looked at Thomas' face dripping with water and he laughed.
But Thomas didn't think his accident was funny and now Thomas was upset with Percy.
Just then, Gordon arrived.
Gordon had an extra important job for Thomas and Percy, a job that needed the two engines to work together.
A cruise ship is docking at Norramby tonight, Gordon told them.
I need you two to take the slide ramp and base so the passengers will be able to get off the ship.
Do you two feel up to doing this together?
Gordon asked as he looked at Thomas and Percy's grumpy faces.
Of course, they both replied.
Thomas and Percy were still upset at each other as they coupled up to the slide ramp and base and they began to argue.
I don't want to do a delivery with an engine that laughed at me, grumbled Percy.
Well, you laughed at me, Thomas frowned.
But you laughed at me first, replied Percy.
Thomas and Percy were still arguing as they puffed along the track towards the docks at Norramby.
Best friends forever, said Thomas.
More like best friends for never, replied Percy.
I'm going to beat you to the docks.
Percy picked up speed and pulled ahead of Thomas.
But Thomas wasn't going to let Percy overtake him, so he went even faster.
The two engines raced along the tracks.
Then Thomas saw a switch up ahead, and that gave him an idea.
Thomas pulled the switch, sending Percy hurtling onto a different track.
As Percy raced away on the other track, he shouted to Thomas...
Good luck with the traffic going that way, ex-friend of mine.
Well, good luck with the hill going that way, ex-friend of mine, Thomas shouted back.
So the two ex-friends went their separate ways.
Oh dear, that's very sad.
It wasn't long before Percy came to the bottom of a very big hill.
This was the hill Thomas had told him about.
I can climb that hill no problem, Percy said to himself.
Percy charged towards the hill.
Up, up, up he went.
He had nearly reached the top.
When he started rolling back down down down, all the way to the bottom, again said Percy, This is going to be a bit harder than I thought.
Thomas was speeding along his track.
Cracked couplers, cried Thomas as he slammed on his brakes and screeched to a stop.
Blocking Thomas' track was the biggest traffic jam ever.
There were engines lined up as far as Thomas could see.
''Yikes?
Where did all this traffic come from?'' said Thomas.
Meanwhile, Percy was still trying to climb to the top of the steep hill.
Then he saw a cow watching him.
''Any chance you want to be my new BFF, Bovine Friend Forever?''
Percy joked.
''Moo!'' replied the cow, licking Percy's face.
Then it slowly walked away to join the other cows.
Percy felt sad.
He missed his friend.
I'm not going to make this delivery on time without my best buddy Thomas, he sighed.
Thomas was still stuck in the traffic jam.
Then he saw a sheep nearby.
Is the traffic always this bad?
Thomas asked. replied the sheep.
It's just you and me, sheepy old pal.
Which isn't so bad, Thomas joked.
But the sheep wasn't listening.
It had wandered off to join the other sheep.
Percy would have laughed at that joke, Thomas said sadly to himself.
Who am I kidding?
I miss my best friend.
And without his help, I'm never going to make this delivery on time.
Just then, Nia arrived at the traffic jam.
She was surprised to find Thomas without Percy.
Don't tell me you and Percy haven't made up yet, she said.
What am I going to do, Nia? said Thomas.
I miss my best friend and I really need his help, but he's probably made it to Norramby without me.
So if Percy was nearby, would you ask him for help?
Sure, replied Thomas.
Good, because Percy's right over there, said Nia, pointing to a gap in the bushes.
Thomas peered through the gap.
There, on the other track, was Percy, still trying to climb up the big hill on his own.
Percy, can you help Thomas get out of this traffic jam?
Nia shouted.
We're still not talking, replied Percy.
Then he thought for a moment and looked at Thomas.
But if someone wanted to avoid the traffic, there's a siding over there to get to my track.
Thanks, Percy, called Nia excitedly.
Nia hurried across to Percy's track.
Thomas followed her very slowly.
Thomas came to a stop next to Percy.
Neither engine said anything.
You are both being very silly, Nia told them.
Everyone gets upset sometimes.
You've just got to let off some steam.
Thomas and Percy looked at each other.
Let off steam? they asked.
Yeah, Nia giggled.
Give it a try.
Thomas and Percy took a deep breath in.
And... They blew out steam as hard as they could.
Clouds of fluffy white steam filled the air.
Suddenly, Thomas and Percy didn't feel upset or annoyed or grouchy with each other anymore.
They just wanted to be best friends again.
Oh, that's nice.
I'm sorry.
I was the worst today, said Thomas.
Me too, agreed Percy.
Still best friends?
Thomas smiled.
Of course we are, Locamigo, grinned Percy.
Then let's finish this delivery together, said Thomas.
The two best friends coupled up together and helped each other climb the big hill.
They raced down the other side and on towards the docks.
Thomas and Percy came to a stop beside the passenger ship.
They had delivered the slide ramp and base on time, just as they'd promised Gordon.
When Thomas and Percy were upset with each other, they learnt to let off some steam which reminded them they were the best of friends and a super fantastic team.
