Hey English Spongers, I'm Justine.
Today we are in the city of Penticton and we are going grocery shopping.
I have a list of the things I need to buy.
I need to buy limes, I need to buy cabbage, I need to buy red onion and I need to buy orange juice tortillas, jicama and cilantro.
Can you guess what I'm making?
I'm making tacos.
At home, I already have some ingredients like refried beans and some different types of chiles.
So I don't need to buy everything to make tacos today.
Only one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, things.
I don't know if I will be able to find jicama. jicama is one of my favorite foods to eat.
But it's really hard to find in Canada.
So I'm crossing my fingers that we will be able to find jicama in the grocery store today.
Let's go.
We're in the produce section of the grocery store.
The produce section is where all of the fruits and vegetables are.
So we are going to look for limes and cabbage and onion and jicama in this section.
Here we have some peppers some red peppers and some orange peppers and some lettuce, some heads of lettuce, but no limes.
Let's keep looking.
Here we have some parsley and some beets and cilantro.
So I'm going to buy a bunch of cilantro.
It's really wet, so I'm going to shake it off so that some of the water comes off.
And then I'm going to put it in my bag.
Okay, I have one bunch of cilantro.
But I'm still looking for the limes.
And I'm still crossing my fingers for jicama.
Here are some big orange carrots, but I don't need carrots.
Here are some parsnips, some big parsnips and some turnips, but no limes.
Here are the cabbages.
I do need a cabbage but I don't want a really big one.
I want a small cabbage.
This one looks like it's the smallest one.
This is a small cabbage.
Okay let's keep looking.
Here we have a bunch of different types of onions.
There are yellow onions and white onions and purple onions or red onions.
And this is what I want.
I want a big red onion.
This one looks nice and big.
This is a big red onion.
I found the limes.
There are limes that are loose.
These are loose limes. but they cost $1.49 each, almost $1.50 each.
But there's some limes in a bag, and this bag costs $7.49, and there's seven limes in this bag.
So this bag is cheaper than buying limes by themselves.
And I wanted to buy six or seven limes.
So this is perfect.
I'm going to buy this bag of limes.
I spy jicama.
I am so excited.
I'm going to get two big jicamas.
This one's bigger.
Yay!
I'm so excited.
I like to eat jicama with lime.
It's really good.
Okay, now we need to look for orange juice.
I found the tortillas.
In Canada, we don't have freshly made tortillas, so we buy them in a package.
These are small corn tortillas.
That's my favorite kind.
I'm going to get two packages of corn tortillas.
Sometimes I make my own tortillas, but this week I don't want to, so I'm just going to use the ones in the package, and that's okay.
I found the orange juice.
In Canada, it's really expensive to buy oranges.
So for making my tacos I use orange juice in the marinade and it's cheaper for me to buy orange juice instead of buying oranges to squeeze into juice.
Now I need to check my list.
Did I get everything?
I got limes.
I got cabbage.
I got a big red onion.
I got orange juice.
I got two packages of corn tortillas.
I got two big jicamas and I got a bunch of cilantro.
Great.
Now we're ready to go to the till and we'll buy our groceries.
I got everything that I need in my paper bag to make tacos.
Now I'm going to show you how much everything cost.
Alrighty, so this is my receipt.
I have the receipt that tells me how much everything cost.
First, the corn tortillas.
Each bag was $3.99.
So there's two bags each, $3 and 99 cents.
Then the orange juice, The carton of orange juice was $2.79.
The next is the jicama.
The two jicama that I bought were $12.22.
They are six dollars and 59 cents per kilogram, and i bought 185 kilograms of jicama, so it cost 1222 cents.
Then the limes the bag of limes was 749.
And the cabbage, the green cabbage was $4.94.
It was $3.73 per kilogram.
And that cabbage was 1.32 kilograms.
So it cost $4.94.
Then the onion.
The red onion was $2.88.
It was $5.93 per kilogram, but the onion was only 0.48 kilograms.
0.48 kilograms.
So that onion cost $2.88.
And then the cilantro, the bunch of cilantro cost $2.49.
So in total, my groceries to make my tacos cost $36.93.
Thanks for watching my video.
We'll see you next time.
Bye-bye.
