In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to be in free fall.
Now, this has two meanings.
The literal meaning if you jump out of a plane and before you pull the ripcord, you will be in free fall.
And then when you pull the ripcord, your parachute will deploy.
So when you are in free fall, you are falling as fast as you can possibly go because of gravity, and nothing is slowing you down.
But we also use this phrase to be in free fall to talk about other things.
If the price of a certain stock on the stock market suddenly starts to fall, it starts to plummet.
We might say the stock price is in free fall.
If the price of gas in Canada went from 2 a liter down to a dollar a liter in one day, that would be a miracle.
And we would also say the price of gas is in free fall.
The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is free as a bird.
So if you are in jail and they let you out, Wait a minute.
Did I just teach this phrase a couple of weeks ago?
Am I losing track of all the phrases that I've taught in the world?
Possibly.
Anyways, when you are free as a bird, it means you are free.
If you think about a bird out in the wild, they are simply free.
They're free to do whatever they want.
They're free to go wherever they want.
So sometimes we say a person is free as a bird.
If you're in jail and you get out, you're free as a bird.
So to review, to be in free fall means that something is falling, maybe you from a plane until you pull the ripcord, or maybe the price of something is in free fall.
And when you are free as a bird, you're simply free to do whatever you want whenever you want.
Right now, I'm free as a bird.
I can do whatever I want because the workday is over.
But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video.
This comment.
I'm laughing because normally I have a jacket with a nice pocket, but now I got to figure out how to get it out of my back pocket.
This comment is from Alessio.
What does it mean when you say we have a vehicle going in at three minutes and 38 seconds?
So this is from the last video.
And then my response.
It means the vehicle is going to the local garage so a mechanic can figure out what is wrong and fix it.
So yes, when I make my lessons, sometimes I just speak way I normally speak, which is good for you guys.
But when I said the vehicle is going in I think because I had already been talking about the garage then it's understood that that's what I'm talking about.
So the vehicle was going to the garage to get some work done.
Hey, I'm just walking in a local subdivision.
I've already had a lady staring at me out of her window, wondering what I'm doing with my camera probably, but I just wanted to show you how green everything is.
So lawns are green.
Not every tree has leaves yet though, but a lot of trees have already leafed out. it's pretty cool it's pretty fun i know that when i looked at videos i just did a few weeks ago everything is very very sparse and brown and barren there's there's not a whole lot to look at but now like if you look down this street as well people have been actively mowing their lawns The hedgerows are starting to get leaves on them.
Trees are getting leaves on them.
It just looks really cool.
In fact, it is 30 degrees Celsius today.
It's May, what is it, May 19th?
May 19th, that is abnormal.
It's normally not that warm, but it feels like summer right now.
If all the trees had leaves on them, there'd obviously be more shade to stand in.
But right now, it's just a nice spring day that feels like a summer day.
Well, hey, I hope you enjoyed this lesson.
Here.
I'll spin you around for the last little bit so you can see the maple trees with all their leaves.
Thanks for watching and I'll see you next week with another short lesson.
Bye.
