Hello everybody.

Today, I want you to read the following 20 words.
Now that you've read the 20 words, listen out for them in today's video.
Today's video will be using a method called comprehensible input, where you watch, you listen and you learn new English vocabulary.
Today I'm walking up a hill in the center of Santiago de Chile, as always.

Well, let's get into the video.
So the start up the walk is not super steep.
We're still walking on quite flat terrain but, as you can see, we are above the road, so our ascent has officially started.
We have some nice park benches there and a really beautiful old tree in the center.
This part is very wooded, lots of trees, lots of different things going on, and right next to it, a busy dual carriageway, one of the biggest roads in the city.
The city is really, really calm.
It is 5.30 on a Friday.
The sun is shining.
It is really, really hot.
And you can see buses going past.
Lots and lots of people come to public spaces like this to relax.
They come to sit with their friends, to enjoy a little bit of time outside and, of course, to enjoy maybe a coffee, a water.
But it's all about coming with other people in order to try and see your friends.
So I walked all the way to try and walk through this gate.
But unfortunately, the gate is locked, so I have to go the long way round.
How annoying because i walked all the way.
I have to walk down these super, super steep stairs.
There are no supports from the side, so i need to be careful that i don't fall.
Here we are at the front entrance and you can see there's a really lovely pond at the front with lots of fountains.
The fountains are shooting out the water and you can see the main structure, the main structure of the hill.
The architecture is really, really beautiful here.
It's one of my favorite spots in the city.
Here we are and it's so hot I wish I could splash some of that water on me because I am dying.
I went from the super freezing cold in Europe all the way to crazy, crazy heat here in Santiago.
And here we are walking up the curved staircase, walking up the first little, the first proper ascent, as i'll call it.
You can see there's not many people on this part and thankfully it's in the shade, out of direct sunlight.
Here we get the beautiful sounds of the water splashing.
There are lots of trees and vegetation.
And we have the center of the city right next to it and walking around the staircase to see the main attraction.
Here we have the first little plaza and one of the most beautifully designed structures you will ever see.
Here you can see the fountain and the pond in all of its glory.
I usually don't like the color yellow on buildings, but this one is really nice.
It matches the white really well.
Up above we have a big statue of Poseidon.
I'm not sure if you can see, but there's a pigeon sat on his head, which is very, very funny.
There are four columns and the building is definitely done in a neo-classical style very, very typical of south america.
Well, very typical, typical of historic south america.
Yeah, what a beautiful, beautiful spot this is.
This space here is very relaxing a lot of open space, a lot of, you know, lots of natural sunlight very, very chill, very relaxed.
And here we see we have the next set of stairs, we have the next staircase.
I think the handrails on these staircases are so amazing and for me, it's just incredible how similar each one of these are.
I imagine they were made by hand, but i don't know for sure.
Um yeah, here we are going up, Reaching a little flat section and we can get a better look at the statue.
Poseidon killing some sort of fish, I guess, with a trident.
How cool.
So now we've made it past the first little little site, the first monument here, we have a decision to make now.
We could go to the left and walk up the stairs.
It is a much more direct route, but i prefer to take the right hand route.
There's lots and lots of trees, the gradient is not so steep at least not at the start and it's a much, much more relaxed feeling from this one.
So i think we're going to go up this way and down the other way.
That way we don't miss anything.
I always love to take a moment to sit down when I'm walking.
Sit down, I will claim it's because I want to soak up the atmosphere and take my time.
But the truth is I'm a very fast walker and it is really hot.
I came at one of the hottest times of the day.
That's why I'm wearing this hat.
I have T-shirt on, shorts. and I'm wearing lots and lots of sunblock.
Lots and lots of sunblock so I don't burn.
That is why you can see my face is slightly shiny right now because I'm making sure I do not burn.
For me, I've never seen a city have such an incredible piece of nature right in the middle of it.
It is truly a massive honor to have something like this.
I absolutely wish london had something like this, and i suppose buenos aires has the nature reserve, the eco reserve, but despite the fact i lived there for 11 months, i never went.
I tried to go once it was closed and In that moment I vowed never again, because I spent 30 minutes walking there on a Sunday.
So we have started on the next little ascent up.
I took the path here with this uh, interesting orange stone.
I think it's a lamp, or at least it's meant to be a lamp, and we have these bricks up here.
These parts are a little bit broken, but Who cares?
I mean, this is just such a amazing and natural space.
I'm not too bothered about the furniture.
Moving countries can be difficult at times.
Uh, being so far away from your family, far away from your loved ones, you know, having all of your relationships and your routines broken and being forced to try and start them again in an entirely new place, place where you don't know the rules.
It's not your first language, even though my spanish is very good A place you've never been before.
But it's moments like this where you can come to places like this that make it all worth it.
I'm really really happy so far.

And here we have reached the sort of second part.
There's a little dog walking past.
And up here we have a statue of a dog.
This is a really cool statue.
I would like one of these in more places.
Makes me feel really happy.
Here we have some of our first views of the city and oh, i really love it.
Now lots of tall, quite unassuming architecture, lots of stuff that isn't, you know, super interesting.
It's not the most romantic city, i can say, but it's functional, it works And hopefully you guys can see the Andes Mountains towering over the city in the distance.
OK, so now I think we can definitely say the ascent towards the peak is starting.
Here we have some very uneven stairs, so I have to be very careful to both report and walk at the same time.
Here you can see lots of yellow and dead leaves.
It's summer, the city's really not got very much rainfall recently, and this is the result.
The leaves die, they get dehydrated, they run out of water and they begin to crumble like this.
That is where we are going Torre Mirador or the lookout tower.
It would be in English.
Here we have some signs pointing us in the right direction.
I think it's time we make the last push up to the peak.
I am not going to be able to film as I'm walking up, but I may stop at some point to show you my progress and to show you how it looks.
But always be careful going up things like this.
We're now approaching the top of the tower guys.
We've almost made it to the peak of the hill.
So we have amazing panoramic views of the city up at the top.
And there in the distance, the tallest building in South America.
No, I'm correct this time.
I know I got the shard wrong, but this one is actually the tallest building on the continent.
I'm not sure how well you can see, but the city is surrounded by the Andes mountain range and really stretches as far as the eye can see.
Think, for the way down I might have chosen the steeper, less stable and therefore more dangerous stairs.
Let me know in the comment guys, if your cities have anything cool like this, or just like me, you guys are really shocked that you can have such a peaceful, such a tranquil place right in the middle of the city, filled with nature.
I've really never seen anything quite like it before.
Oh, it is so, so hot.
The peak which you can sort of see behind me.
Well no, you can definitely see behind me.
It is such a cool little spot, but it is simply too hot to stay up there for long.
So I really recorded what I need to record and then got out of there.
On top of that, there were lots of people, and I always feel a bit funny recording in front of lots of people, even though I don't show it all that much.
Confidence is king.
So the little hill you guys are seeing, there is actually another one of these here in the city, but it is much taller, as you can see.
You can get up that in a number of ways.
Firstly, there is a walking trail that I would love to do.
Probably not when it's quite so hot.
If you see in the middle there is a cable cart going up and down, so that could be a good way to reach the top, but of course i'll have to pay for that.
And then yeah uh, thinking about it, i think that would make another great video trying to get up to the top either by walking the hiking route or going up the cable car, or both.

There's probably a little more that i could show you but, to be honest, i think the video is probably long enough and i'd like to get home, get out of the heat.
I need to buy myself some food for the night.
