Welcome to ABC Story Sisters, a storytime podcast for kids and kids at heart.
I'm your host, Alexa, here with my sisters, Bristol and Charlotte.
Say hi, girls.
Hi.
Hi.
Each episode will bring you a new chapter from a classic children's book.
And this story is extra special.
Because it's our daddy's favorite, the Jungle Book.
Girls, can you remind our listeners what happened in the last episode?
Bagheera and Mowgli had a big fight.
But Mowgli made a new friend.
Baloo the bear.
And she's teaching Mowgli the bear necessities about life in the jungle.
What about Bagheera?
Yeah.
Do you think they'll make up, Alexa?
I bet we're about to find out.
Are you ready to get started, girls?
Yes!
Chapter 6, An Unlikely Alliance.
Mowgli and Baloo caused quite a ruckus as they practiced their sparring on the jungle floor.
It was so loud, in fact, that Bagheera the cat came racing back to see if the woman cub was in danger.
When she arrived within sight of the pair, she saw the commotion was all in good fun.
Still, she decided it might be best to keep a close watch.
I like being a bear, Little Mowgli said as she happily hiked through the jungle under the protection and direction of her new friend and mentor, Baloo.
Little did the duo know they were being carefully watched by their feline friend.
Time out.
What's up, Bristol?
I spy a new word, Alexa.
What word is that, baby bee?
Feline.
Ooh, I know, I know.
Pick me.
Patience, Grasshopper.
Let's try and help Bristol figure this one out on her own.
Maybe you could give her a hint as to what she could use to help.
Context clues.
That's right.
Bristol, let's think about what's happening in our story.
Who is Mowgli's friend that was helping Tigger to the village?
Um, Bagheera?
Perfect.
Wanna take it from here, Charlotte?
It would be my pleasure.
Bristol, what kind of animal was Mowgli's friend Bagheera?
A panther?
That's it.
And a panther is a type of cat.
Yes.
So feline means cat?
Exactly.
That's right.
Great job, baby bee.
Context clues to the rescue.
Exactly.
Our faithful old friend.
Now, let's see if Mowgli's faithful old friend decides to jump back into the adventure.
After a long day of exploring the territory Baloo, explaining important jungle life lessons along the way, she and Mowgli decided to rest for the night at the nearby river bank.
They lied carefree near the river's edge, enjoying the cool water as it lapped to the shore.
Watching from her hidden perch in the trees, Bagheera carefully eyed the pair.
Shaking her head, she muttered to herself, What a disgrace, that Baloo.
No protection from predators, land or sea.
No protection from the elements that the cat could see.
Bagheera bided her time.
She waited several hours for Mowgli and Baloo to get much needed rest.
The journey before them would be long and difficult.
Only after several hours passed did she approach Baloo, who was snoring at what could only be described as an impressive volume.
Shaking the bear awake, Bagheera whispered in her ear.
Time out.
Oh man, I was just getting into it.
Sorry.
It seemed like it might be time to act out our story.
I think you're absolutely right, Berkeley.
I'm always happy to be interrupted by a special guest.
Hi, Berkeley.
Hi, girls.
Berkeley is back to play her role as Mowgli's BFF, Baloo.
Charlotte, you'll play the part of Mowgli, and I'll play the part of Bagheera.
What part do I get to play, Alexa?
I don't have a part for you today.
But how about you kick us off, Baby B?
Really?
Take it away, little one.
B is for bring it home, girls.
Balloon.
Balloon. loose.
Wake up, you old fool.
Wow, wow, wow.
Look who joined the party.
This is not a party, Baloo.
It's a rescue mission.
What are you talking about, Baggy?
You know I hate that nickname.
Regardless, it's time to focus, Baloo.
On what?
On the task at hand which presently, is doing what's best for this cub and all of the jungle for that matter.
She has been entrusted to my care under the expectation that i will transport her to the human village.
The human village.
Shh you Fool, you'll wake the cub.
But Baggy, why in the world would you want to take her there?
You know as well as I do that the queen of the jungle won't stand for a human in its ranks.
Shere Khan fears humans and especially their use of fire.
The tiger has caught wind of the woman cub and won't stand for it.
Oh, Baggy, come on now.
You don't think a little jungle cat could scare old Baloo, do ya?
The kid is just fine with me.
I'm teaching her all the bare necessities she needs to survive.
Right, yes.
Very compelling.
I'm sensing a bit of sarcasm.
What gave it away?
Oh, Baggy, you are always such a cynic.
I promised the kid she can stay in the jungle with me.
But as long as she stays with you, she's in great danger.
You must go to the human village, Baloo.
Birds of a feather flock together.
It's the law of the land, and you know it to be true, just as well as I do.
But Bagheera, can we just have a few more days?
I'm afraid not.
Shere Khan is already tracking her movements.
It's no longer safe for her here.
Now, hurry and wake the cub after I leave you.
There's no time to waste.
She will surely try to defy us if she knows the plan.
But you know what you have to do, Baloo.
Bagheera?
Is that you?
You're just dreaming, kid.
Go back to sleep.
Big Baloo needs to think.
Uh, Charlotte?
Uh, you can wake up now.
Earth to Charlotte!
Oh, sorry.
That scene was such a great nap.
Well, at least one of my scene partners was awake for that one.
Good job, Berkeley.
Yeah, that was awesome.
Thanks, girls.
