Good morning from beautiful Lake Como.
This place has been on my bucket list for years, and I'm going to be spending the next three days here exploring as much as I possibly can, figuring out how to even navigate a place that's this huge and, more importantly, I want to let you guys know if this place lives up to the hype.
Right now I'm in a place called Varena, which is so beautiful, but there is a ferry leaving in five minutes from a dock right behind me, so we're gonna just get a ticket and jump on and see where we end up.
We've now just sat down on the ferry and wow, there are some stunning panoramic views out of all of the windows on this ferry.
This is definitely going to be the cheapest boat ride you're going to find in Lake Como, but for the 15 minutes it takes to get from Varena to Bellagio, it is unbelievable.
So we've just stepped off of the boat in Bellagio.
First impression is, of course, this is so picturesque.
Of course, they have some of the more cheesy, touristic shops.
If I were you, I would definitely prefer spending the money that you're gonna have on food, because there are so many amazing places to eat.
We have now been exploring Bellagio for the past few hours, and there is not a huge amount of stuff to do besides wandering these amazing streets.
It's also quite crowded because this is one of the most marketed areas of the lake and I like to say that touristy is usually touristy for very good reasons.
This place is very beautiful, but I would probably recommend Verena if you are looking to avoid a bit more of the really packed tourist sites.
We have now just finished up our afternoon in Bellagio and we accidentally took the wrong ferry.
We went on the one that has all of the cars on it, but it's still taking us to the same place, back to Varena, and I am so excited for the next step in our adventure.
We are about to check off something that has been on my bucket list since I can remember.
We are meeting the guys at AC Boats and taking a ride on a classic wooden boat on Lake Como.
I don't know if it gets much better than this.
We're going down to the docks right now.
Oh my gosh, we could see the guy waiting.
This is so exciting.
We're now departing and we have three full hours.
We have now just arrived at what I think may or may not be the most magical part of this lake that we have seen so far.
There is this beautiful waterfall, tucked behind this stone arched bridge, with the light pouring in for sunset.
I don't think it really gets much better than this.
I cannot believe how warm this water is.
This is such an unbelievable experience.
Definitely not overrated.
Our boat ride has officially come to an end and wow, I can definitely see why everyone's favorite thing to do in Lake Como is to take a classic wooden boat out on the lake.
If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you check out AC Boats.
I'll link them in the description, but this was something that I am never going to forget.
We have just checked out of our hotel in Varena and we're running to the ferry right now, so hopefully we're not late and don't miss it, because they come every like 30-40 minutes.
We're staying in Mnagio tonight and I highly don't recommend bringing a car to Lake Como because it's such a hassle.
There's barely any parking.
The hotels are super strict.
So everything is super connected with the ferries and by walking, and you can also easily take the train here from Milan to Varenna.
So overall I definitely don't recommend taking a car here, but I hope we don't miss this ferry.
Look me up on that radar.
Look me up.
All right, we are in the elevator, about to see our beautiful room for the first time.
I'm so excited.
We're staying here at the Grand Hotel Victoria in Monagio, and this may or may not be one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at.
This is the nicest building I've ever been inside of.
The double room.
Oh, it all opens by itself.
Oh, this is um.
I have one of these at home.
Actually, it's a pure white marble bathroom.
There's not a single water spot anywhere.
This is so wild.
Stop stop, Stop.
And that's where they bring up the Lamborghini that I'm gonna take to dinner.
Of course, after I get my Tom Ford suit pressed, yeah.
We have now just started the most adventurous activity of our Lake Como trip.
We are here on the kayak, the sun is shining, and over there is the set where they filmed the James Bond scene in Casino Royale.
The name's Bond.
James Bond.
We are now checking out of the Grand Hotel Victoria in Mnagio and it's our last day in Lake Como.
Just so sad, but we still have one incredible experience left.
Wow, this is gonna be amazing.
One last adventure, eh Max?
One last trip to Como Town.
We're now sailing to a different part of the lake that we haven't been to yet, basically taking a tour of some of the most beautiful villas here.
We just passed the one from Star Wars, Attack of the Clones, which actually turned into a pretty popular meme, and now we're in front of this absolutely stunning villa.
Check this out.
It's so ridiculous how beautiful these places are.
Now that our Lake Como adventure is coming to an end, I have reached the conclusion that this place is definitely worth the hype.
It's lived up to all that it is cracked up to be.
I would say that this travel destination is best for weddings, honeymoons, romantic trips.
It's not necessarily a budget-friendly backpacker destination.
I'm sure there are budget alternatives, but a part of Lake Como's reputation is how luxurious the experiences can be.
I would also say that traveling in places that have such a popular reputation like Lake Como has given me some anxiety, because I almost get this type of premeditated fear of missing out.
Almost like my experience won't line up to be similar to all of the things that I've seen in movies or on social media.
So my biggest piece of advice for combating that is to remember that you shouldn't compare your experiences to other people's edited moments.
And it can be an amazing, freeing feeling to just let yourself go into these type of travel experiences without any kind of expectations.
