Hey everyone, welcome to the English Fluency Journey podcast.
These episodes were created based on our videos on YouTube for those who'd rather listen than watch.
So happy listening. Hope you enjoy our content.
Arshia Mash is an American accent coach.
She's created her online accent makeover course. and she has her YouTube channel, Accent's Way English with Hadar Shemesh. and she's built just an incredible community of non-native speakers Facebook, whose common int of course.
She's a succe and we have this amazing better.
Okay, so thank you for agreeing, meeting with us and to do this interview on your vacation.
Pleasure. So how's your vacation going so far?
It's actually incredible. It's a long vacation, so we've come here for five weeks.
The first week we were traveling and we decided to spend one month in Rome to do a little bit of work and to pretend like we're locals and to walk around the city.
Yeah, so we are doing really... We're having a lot of fun.
Yes, this is very nice. This is our first vacation in this style, in such styles.
How are you enjoying your vacation? It's great.
It's amazing and overwhelming and tiring.
But it's great because everything's so different and so huge.
Because, as I said, our town is very little.
Yes. Okay, so did you get to meet any of your subscribers so far, Ms.
Esme? No, actually. here in Rome. No, I might meet with the couple later on. like I haven't scheduled anything for my first two weeks in Rome because my parents were here and but now I'm I'm I'm open and I will probably meet with a few people. few community members.
And so it's such a pleasure. It was so incredible to see you the first time, like after I'm used to seeing you behind the screen.
It's amazing. I can't stop smiling. I'm gonna smile all the time.
You're finally on vacation. Yes. And I'm saying finally because you work a lot.
I do. And hard. So do you get tired sometimes or overwhelmed or out of ideas maybe? because we all, especially creative people, when we put ourselves in some time frames.
Like on YouTube, I'm going to make a video once a week.
It can be so stressful. Very stressful, yeah.
What do you do at such moments? That's a great question.
So if I get overwhelmed, the answer is yes.
Absolutely. But not just because like, so.
I do a lot of things, like YouTube, like having a YouTube channel is just a part, like I run an, a school in Tel Aviv and I have my online school and trying to fit that in within everything else that I do can be overwhelming, though I try not to cave to that term over overwhelmed because it puts me in this in this passive and kind of like helpless mode.
So I always try to be in control of my time.
And whenever I start to feel that sense of overwhelm, I try to take off my schedule some things that are preventing me from doing what I want. honestly, if you were to ask me, like the one thing I really want to do is just to sit and create content, you know, like, to keep developing, create more courses, like that's ideally what I would love to do.
Yeah, it's just like, let me speak in front of the camera.
Running out of ideas, I think I have lists and lists of topics to discuss.
But it's strange because sometimes I would get in front of the camera and I'd be like, I don't know what to talk about.
And I have lists and requests and everything, and sometimes I just don't feel the passion. of talking about something that I've planned to talk about.
And then all of a sudden I'm like, this is what I want to talk about today.
And then they do it but I'm kind of I'm not that organized like I feel.
I allow my intuition to guide me when I'm shooting, which is good and not good.
It's good because it's like... I feel more comfortable doing it, but it's not good because then I'm less organized.
I don't batch a lot. I don't know how you work, but I try to make a few videos.
Yeah, pretty much. I wouldn't say the same.
And not a couple of videos in one shoot because it's too much.
For me, it's very hard. that this is a feature of creative people, like not to be organized because you got to feel, you got to feel Oh, yes.
Right now, I want to make a video. I want to talk.
I want to share something. Right, right.
And at the same time, as a business owner, or if you think about this as your... as your career and your work, like you also have to, I'm very much like that.
And I'm like, no, I just want to do that.
It's nothing structured. But then like you have to have that if you work with more people and So yeah, I'm trying to find the balance between the two, but to your question, Yeah, it can get overwhelming, but I always bring it back to Okay, if I get myself to do this, what will be the result and how much value I can bring to my audience. audience and my subscribers and that kind of like drives me forward and I'm like, I need to get this thing done.
So you're kind of self-motivating. person so you know you know exactly what to do what it takes why you need it for and yeah yeah I have to keep reminding myself.
And also, if I get lazy or be like, I can't do this, then to remind myself what other like what am i missing out not doing this you know or what others might be missing out okay this message needs to come out to get out there and if I'm not doing it I'm preventing them from like hearing what I have to say about this so you know, like step up.
I had the same thing with my latest two videos because they They were long and hard and outside.
And it was weird. Do you write the script before?
Yes, I have the script because I need to I need to have this information.
I need to know what to talk about and especially outside because a lot of people, a lot of distractions, and you are like losing it sometimes.
Like you're not sure what were you talking about?
You have to have this. I have to have this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, so to be. Okay.
Next question is interesting. You've talked about this a little bit on your Facebook.
Paige, so who motivates you and do you have any role models?
Oh, wow. Yeah, actually, I have a few. I talk a lot about Marie Forleo, who has been my mentor.
Like, recently I've been... I have... been following her a little less just because I've been following other people as well.
But Marie Forleo is incredible and amazing and super, precise to what I'm looking for.
It's hard to follow her because she has so many things going on.
Exactly. Right. And so I follow her. I follow James Wedmore. who is like who is an online business thought leader, kind of like manifestation dude. who also talks about all the like all the levels of of having a business online and being, like the owner like the CEO of your business so it's really interesting and and like how to manifest the business that you want.
So I'm very much into all that woo woo stuff and like, I get it.
So I follow him as well. Who else? Amy Porterfield.
A lot of people in the industry of online marketing, online business.
It's not just about the business, it's really about what you have to give to the world the people around you and how to make it as accessible as possible.
Yeah. You visited Tony Robbins Masterclass in London.
Right. Can you talk a little bit about this?
Yeah, the Unleash Your Power seminar. It was, wow, it was, like Tony is a very controversial character, like I've been following him But he's not like, you know, you asked me that question.
He wasn't like my first choice. Yeah. But he has a lot of valuable... things to share, mostly because he has been working with like millions of people and people are just patterns, you know, like we behave according to the same patterns.
I see that all the time with my students, you know, like people say the same things and they have the same fears So he has experienced that on a bigger, on a higher level.
So I think the most incredible thing for me there was the the experience of being with 12,000 freaking people in one room and they all strive.
Yeah, they all strive for self improvement. and to create a better life for themselves.
So the energy was incredible. And they really like push you to your extreme, you know, like they really get you. energize and pump you up and which was like a Like at some point I was very resistant, but then I was just like, I'm already here.
And it was brilliant. And most importantly, I've met some incredible friends there.
And we've developed this mastermind group where we kind of like check in on each other.
Yeah, so it was a really good experience.
Mind-opening, probably. Very mind-opening and very transformative.
I've heard everything that he had to say before, like from from him, from different people, but being there, making a decision to take a to make a change in your life, right, with other people is what's so incredible. it's like now you're obligated to do something because like,
Like, I promise to do this. I promise. And I paid a lot of money for it.
So it's just like, you know, sometimes you have to pay money to commit to something and being like...
That's true. That is so true. And he's pretty straightforward.
And this is what I like because I've been following him a little, and I like it.
And also, for those people who want to train their listening skills, He's amazing, he speaks so fast.
So fast. So incoherent, incoherently. So fast, yeah. yeah he's he speaks really fast he's like all he he's losing his voice because he was in two out of the four days because of his voice.
So there was another guy leading it. But his rhetoric skills are incredible to look.
Like how... And these texts like he's been saying these, you know, like he's been doing these seminars for years.
So I know that what's beautiful to listen to also if someone is watching, how he takes the pauses and where he emphasizes things and how it makes it seem like it's the first time that he's saying it rather than like reciting it and he's very passionate it comes to comes across in the intonation and and like the voice and everything so it's it's a nice yes Yeah.
I would love to visit such masterclass maybe.
Yeah, do it, do it. Yeah. I'm looking at my husband maybe in the future.
So I know that you're going to New York.
I am going to New York. Yes, to see Marie Forleo, to her master class.
What is that? No, actually, okay, so actually she has one in September.
But I wasn't able to go there. I'm actually going to...
Okay, so I'm going to San Diego to, like, a... an entrepreneurial live event of two people that I follow who are Amy Porterfield and Stu McLaren.
So that's like the main purpose, but then I'm gonna stop over in New York And I'm going to do my very first community meetup.
Oh, my God. Yeah. Amazing. It's amazing.
And it's going to be like I'm going to publish it and. and see because they have a lot of students from there and definitely a lot of followers.
That's going to be so cool. Well, I'm so happy that I'm meeting you here, but I would love to be there as well.
So come. Yeah, I would love to. Looking at the husband.
I'm a fan of online courses. Like whenever I see someone that I love, I just decide to invest in them and to invest in the knowledge.
Being so busy, like I don't always go through all the content. but I take whatever I need from it and I think it's very valuable.
Now I do it too, and actually after your course.
That was the very first course that I've taken. in my life.
Online course, yeah. And I loved it. hesitant, I wasn't sure because, you know, like online course, a lot of people talk about this like, it's not that good, you have to work on your own.
Yes, you have to work on your own, but if this is what you wanna do, There's so much valuable information.
Right. Yeah. always come back to it. Like working with a private teacher is extremely valuable, but it's just like limited time and you You also spend a lot of money for one-on-one sessions.
Yes. I would say that if you're just starting, you can start with a private teacher.
So just to kick it off, you know? to feel it, then you can work on your own easily.
Absolutely. Yes, we know that YouTube is an awesome platform for a creative You can find like-minded people.
You can share something. But also, it's a free space for everyone, so there are a lot of people who like to criticize, judge, and that doubt you and your teaching and, you know, like those, I know it all and I know it better people.
There are so many people like these. And do you?
Have you had to deal with those people or do you still deal with them from time to time?
Oh, absolutely. Absolutely, all of the time.
Like at first, it would bother me a lot more.
Right? And I would be really kind of like upset and why are they saying this and like trying to look into Like, really, especially if I would make, like...
My ability to detect typos is very limited. uh and sometimes when i publish a video really quickly then i may you know lose sight of like something and sometimes that happens and then someone would comment on it.
So at the beginning I would be like, I'd be like, how could I have done that?
Like, this is ridiculous. ridiculous. I'm so stupid.
I'm like, I would be like giving myself all this crap.
And then at some point I decided again, like, you know, I work at a certain pace.
Sometimes things slip away. And I have to cut myself some slack and be like, okay.
People will always have something to say.
They'll find whether it's justified or not.
And also like, you know, I really feel that people like they go through their own journeys and sometimes it doesn't correspond with with what I'm teaching, right?
And I can create a lot of resentment And again, I'm okay with that because because I really don't let it get in my way.
I usually, if someone is really pissing me off, I would make like this sarcastic comment or put them in their place.
And then let go. And honestly, I really hope...
I'm hoping for the day that I wouldn't even wouldn't even respond like because it's still like sometimes it still bothers me.
But it never changes like it used to be in the beginning.
It never changes how I perceive myself or like, um gets me to think whether or not i did right or not you know i did right or like We are people.
We make mistakes, we're not perfect, and you can fleece everyone.
It's just impossible. you know different yes there are just people that just simply don't like you and that's it and that's it yeah And I know, I get it.
Oh my God, I get it so much because when you're... when you're creating this content and you're trying to bring value and to to do something good, to create something good and you're putting so much work and effort into this and someone Yeah.
It's like, yeah, it can be offensive sometimes.
But it's theirs. It's not ours. We don't need to take any of that.
It's just, you know. At the beginning, I was like that as well.
I don't answer. to those people anymore.
My husband forbid me to do that. He was like, Stop it, don't even read it.
I don't want you to bother yourself with this.
And I get it now that I gotta roll it all over my back and let it go because like i said i i made this comment on the youtube channel that i was watching one video and the girl said like, it's so offensive, you know, people like, Birdie.
Where's your respect? This is hard work that I do here, and I'm not... offending anyone.
This is something I'm just sharing my thoughts.
Where is your respect? But even this, like, you know, like, you should... always come from a place of power you know like not not like even the fact that that you're like what do you want, I'm doing my best, already puts you in a place that, as if they have the power over you, right?
And you need to be like, who do you think you are coming into my house?
And kind of like, I'm inviting you into my house and I'm sharing with you stuff.
You don't have to be. be here, go away.
If you don't like this channel, choose another channel.
Like why are you wasting my time? Why are you wasting my energy, right?
Like if you come from this perspective, like from this place, then you wouldn't, invest all this emotional energy onto these people because it really does drain you.
Yes. You know? It's true. Yeah. I was like that at the beginning.
I was like, well, at the beginning, it makes sense.
Yeah, I'm trying so hard and it's so, so frustrating and, you know, But then I just let it go.
Like, you can say whatever you want. You're free to do whatever you want.
And yes, this is on you. Exactly. You can take something or not.
Or not, but just don't waste my time. Yeah.
Yeah. So I'm actually very much into psychology and I've been watching such a cool channel, and I don't remember the title now.
So this man, he talks about these things all the time. like how to bring your child and you know, like about life and about those like comments because he gets a lot of those comments as well.
Like he says, like people say, you know what, you're an idiot. and this is the worst channel that I've ever seen or this channel is poisoned or something like that.
And he says, like, you gotta guys understand that this is a person who speaks from their own perspective.
And because maybe that wasn't such a great day or because their life is not that great, And they just, you know, like you shouldn't pay attention to those comments because because it's just their opinion.
This is not a fact. If you're thinking that you're in fact an idiot, Maybe you are, but this is not true.
Like these comments, I always like the way I deal with it. because it can be painful still.
Like I really try not to get into it. I definitely, I don't delete them even, I just leave them. unless it's something super offensive.
And I've had that as well. But like, I always...
I tried to see how these people are really speaking from their pain. and they haven't resolved something in their lives.
And that kind of gives me this, sense of forgiveness, of like, I understand where you're coming from, you don't get me. and that's okay.
I've actually had a really interesting experience on my Facebook page.
I've published this video about how to pronounce New York and Brooklyn and like the five boroughs and then this guy started commenting about how, how dare I like even teach them how to pronounce.
Now, he's a native speaker. I have a lot of native speakers on my channel like trying to say who do you think you are telling us how to pronounce?
They don't even get that it's for non-natives, but it's okay.
Like, I don't, I'm not there to kind of like, point them in this direction.
This is funny, actually. It's really funny, and I'm starting to have this conversation with this guy, like, you know, He's like, you don't get to tell me how to spell things.
And then I'm like, okay, you don't spell it, you pronounce it.
What's your point? You know, and then we started going off and then he says this, he says, well, gentrification sucks, or he says something about gentrification, and it's really painful how his family built up this place and then a lot of people come in and claim to own the space.
But then I was just like, Okay, the reason why he's so upset with my video, because he sees someone who's not a New Yorker, trying to tell them how to pronounce.
Of course, he doesn't understand that he's not my audience.
Like, he's not... But but there is something very painful there like him like really being frustrated with gentrification and what's been happening with with in New York and in Brooklyn in particular.
I was just like, you know what? I get your pain.
You know, I understand that this is really painful, but understand that this is something else.
So you have to be also compassionate and understand that you're not the only person In this world, a lot of, especially native speakers, they don't understand there are non-native speakers who struggle with these words, right?
Yes, of course. Yes. Yeah. And people will always have something to say.
Just so you know that when you start getting bad comments, or when you become controversial, that means that you're doing well like you know because when you succeed there is always someone who will resent what you're doing.
These comments actually they tell a lot, a lot of they give us a lot of information about that person.
You can get, like you said, where you're coming from.
Yeah, I get these comments from non-native speakers.
Your speech. your English and your accent is so pretentious.
I was like pretentious. Like I would usually comment on like, don't project your own, you know, fears onto me.
Like, you know, this is something that you're dealing with, deal with it yourself. speak correctly.
I'm tryin because this is not my n and that's why I'm trying so hard, and especially when I'm making videos, right?
Okay, next question is, so to me, you are a Wonder Woman.
Oh, wow. Yes, because, well, I don't know.
I don't know. How do you make time for all that?
Like you said, your online course, then your school, cool in your hometown then you take a lot of online courses as well you like to develop and improve yourself and then let's not forget you have to two little beautiful girls.
Beautiful girls. Yes. And I have a helicopter.
Yeah, it's mine. It's just coming to pick me up.
Okay. No. And you're a wife. Mm-hmm. successful entrepreneur.
And what about your social life? Let's not forget about that.
Limited, limited social life. but it exists, yeah. it's so it's too much like I know what it's like now and Our situation is not even close to yours.
Well, I think it's a lot of practice. Like, you know, I've been doing this for many years.
So I've figured out a way to kind of like understand what my strengths are and do those and And then whatever I have like now, like in the, in the past year, I've, I have a team, so I have a beautiful community manager, Avika, you know her. and a project manager.
And I have an assistant in Israel, so they are helping me with all the stuff that especially that is related to the school in Israel and the online stuff that like, I just can't do everything.
Yes. And I shouldn't because I should be creating content.
I should be with my girls. I should be doing things that I love.
And I'm really working on that. Like, I feel that I haven't been super productive as I could be.
So I do work late night, and I do wake up early morning, and I try to... to still like work out and and do things but I do get help like for example if for First of all, my husband, my partner, he's with me in the business.
And he's also very, very present with the girls.
So a lot of times he would be the one dropping them off, picking them up, spending time with them, especially when I'm launching a course or when I get really, really busy with school um right now you're doing this interview He's home with a girl.
So he's been, you know, incredible and super, super Like, it's not helpful because he's not helping me.
He's just... you know, like doing what he knows, like what he does.
And he's also incredibly valuable in the business because he's responsible for all the online But I think what drives me really is that Like, when I get, like at the beginning, overwhelmed or...
Like, I don't know what to do is just like, you know, always remind myself where I want to be.
Like, where do I see myself? I want to develop the online community, the community of non-native speakers.
Like if I envision what's gonna happen in one year, two years, five years.
Like I see worldwide meetups and people like, developing their own communities in their hometowns.
So I think this is This is a huge motivation.
So even when I get lazy, but I like I don't watch I don't want like I cut off a lot of things that don't advance me.
And if I have time, it's spent with my girls.
You know, if I have time, then it's spent like learning, um so i really i'm very and or with friends like But as I said, there is no spare time.
Once the girls fall asleep, I'm on my computer doing a little bit more work and then trying to get some sleep.
It's not ideal. Like if I were to teach business or teach, I would say like, you know, you have to have boundaries.
Yes. But until I really get the right team that can really help me with all the work that I don't have to do, I think I will try to do that as much as possible.
And about the community, you're very committed to that community.
And this is so amazing. It's like... Thank you.
Like, who's not in that Facebook community?
You have to be there because you get so much help. answers to your questions and you're always there you're always present you know like Any questions?
Not as much as I would want to, but it's very, very time consuming.
So I try to be as much as possible and just to cheer on the people who are there expressing themselves, exposing themselves.
So that's, yeah. Now, I'm just curious, how was it building your business and having two kids? like i have only one yeah it was it was really like I was on the go doing both, like really challenging.
I remember that when my second daughter was born.
I started my channel when my first daughter was born.
Right? No, my second. My second daughter was born.
You saw my channel like four years ago. or at least started releasing content on a weekly basis.
So that was a decision that I took and I committed myself to it and then I
I had to do it. And then I remember myself with a carrier with my baby inside writing content. and doing things like they see me work a lot.
I explained that to them like I'm like there is a lot of guilt and there was a lot of guilt involved.
Like, you know, should I be doing this? I should be spending more time with them.
Like sometimes I'm very unavailable and but on the other hand I say okay they see an entrepreneur mom who is pursuing her passion and dream and super thrilled.
And they, see like I share with them everything that happens in my community, and everything that happens in the business and my students and sometimes they come in to see a class And I feel like, okay, I may not be with them all of the time, but first of all, they're with their dad.
And second of all, they grow into seeing someone fulfilling their purpose. you know, and I think that's more important sometimes than And when I'm with them, I'm with them 100%.
But also I know that sometimes I have to kind of like... go to the room and do some work.
And even though I... and not to feel guilty about it.
Because once I start feeling guilty, I'm not here nor there.
Yes, this is so true, yeah. I always say that our son, our kid, that was our huge to start doing something like this.
Right. And I... I became creative after I gave birth to my son.
I don't know why I don't know how to explain this, but I just I just wanted to create something.
I just I felt this. need this urge to do something like that.
And whenever I look at him, I understand that this is for him, like he's going to see us fulfilled.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Thank you for all the great questions.
Actually, this is what I was curious about to ask you.
I realized that you get all these questions on Facebook and Instagram and I was like, interview would be so much better, you know, like to get open information and people are curious as well.
Yeah, it's true. Like I have to say that for when I just started my channel, I felt like you know, why would I share personal stuff like no one would be interested.
People come in to hear about my life, about my work and like what I do and what I have teach and to learn pronunciation, but like it took me a long time to kind of like to to take off my guards and like also to share more about my personal life it's still hard like it's It's not something that some people can just pull off their phone and film an Instagram story.
And for me, it's... I need to prepare myself.
It's not that easy for me, especially sharing things about my girls and my family.
But so something like this is not, I just recently taped a video about 10, 10 personal things about myself, questions that people ask.
And then I didn't think people would be curious.
And then I got all these incredible questions.
And I was just like. Okay, maybe they were curious.
Maybe I do need to share more because it's not just about teaching.
It's about... like life and a person that you relate to and you really connect to them.
I was actually very surprised as well when people started asking me like, can you say something about your home town or about your son or whatever you know like personal questions and i was like It's weird for me to share these things, and it's not that I don't want to.
There are some things that I want to just, I want to keep them to myself.
Which is important. Right. It's good to have.
But I don't mind to share, also, Yeah. So what is coming?
What are you currently working on? Because you mentioned on your Instagram that you're working on some new program or course.
I don't remember exactly. Right. It's actually it's something super exciting.
So, I have my online course coming up in September.
And after that, I want to create a new program and it's actually a program for teachers.
So it's going to be a membership site for non-native speakers who are also English teachers who want to teach, to learn how to teach pronunciation, get all the lesson plans, all my tips, how I teach things.
Like I really want to share everything that I've been doing for the past 10 years and to give these tools because I have teachers and I've trained them.
And I saw that was really successful. Like they were able to take what I've given them and then add their own, you know, special secret sauce and then create their own thing and And like there was this, okay, should I be keeping it for myself or should I be sharing it with the world and I feel like this is what I want to do and to give tools and also like the mindset tools to really help English teachers were non-native speakers because we deal with all this crap like about, you know, being... like feeling the imposter syndrome and like not feeling that we should be doing this or deserve like entitled to do this and And I want to create this safe space for a community to develop. of English teachers were non-native.
Just amazing. Yeah. When I started teaching, and people wanted me to teach them pronunciation.
I remember that I spent so much time watching every your video in the course, like a lot of times in a row so that I can actually get how to explain all these things right and i was like literally remembering some words like, okay, I have to say this like this.
Yes. Great. Okay. And even writing down something, I was so, I was anxious.
I was worried because, you know, like...
I'm a teacher. I have to teach. I have to be perfect.
Well, you don't. You don't. You know, even native speakers who teach pronunciation, sometimes they get asked questions that they're like, I'm sure they don't know, they can give an intuitive answer. but they don't always know.
So this is what I'm trying to solve so that you won't have to go through all this like how do I say it but like get the the method, the manual in the right lingo, like how to teach something.
And I feel like it takes this burden off your shoulder. shoulders and also like I've had a lot of teachers taking my program even native speakers who are teachers who wrote to me and were like, I really love how you teach and which is nice like you know and that's how it all started like I felt that This is so great because native speakers, they can't take a look. at non-native speakers from their perspective.
Right. Because you can. And they need a method to teach like Like knowing like how to pronounce things doesn't turn you into a good teacher.
So like whether they're native speakers or non-native speakers, you know, and this is where like what you've done is exactly what you need to do like to learn the method behind it, like how to explain it, and then you can turn it into teaching.
So first of all, this is incredible that you're doing this.
Thank you. proud to be able to be somewhat involved in this.
I always tell my students like you can take this course because it's You can work with me.
You can take a course. You can search information online.
You can do whatever works for you. for you, you can do it.
And I can even give you some, you know, like options if you want, because The only thing that matters is for you to succeed. you want to learn pronunciation, then this is what we're working on.
Exactly. And if we want to impact as many people as possible, or for me, that was the question, then teachers is the next step. like, you know, because teachers will have their students and if they have the right tools and help them with their mindset and with like, teaching them the way I think English should be taught. through the mistakes, through understanding the fears, through understanding the barriers that's how you start breaking them.
So like when you start teaching them like that, I think that can really create a lot of breakthroughs for the student, you know?
Yes. So what are three things do you think of most each day, every day?
Okay, wow. So, obviously, my girls. Right.
This is where like, you know, I'm always like how we begin the morning, how we end the day.
This is super important for me. The second thing is...
I always envision the business that I want, so I always remind myself of my goals.
And I actually start my morning with that.
Like I'm always, I'm writing down what are the things that I'm trying to achieve? now like also to focus me so I would say my my my business, but it's not just my business.
It's like my Was that the thing that you took from that master class, Tony Robbins?
Actually, no, I think this is an idea that I've got from Rachel Hollis. that does this, she's also, she wrote two books, and she's like, she's a...
She has a lot of valuable content out there. and she talked about how she would write her like every single day her goals her like and actually write it as if they have already happened you know, so like, yeah, I have this, I have that.
Like, so, so that, is something that I remind myself every single day.
And I think every day I try to like be very conscious of where I am in this whole thing. because the day can go by really quickly and I can get all wrapped up with everything that is happening around me. and just reminding myself, what do I want?
Where do I stand? to take a few moments for myself.
I really try to do that consciously. subconsciously, like, you know, if you're really, what are the thoughts that go through my mind?
I would probably say the fear of passing time.
Like this is something like that I don't, I'm not, like, it's not enough, you know?
So this is something that I'm struggling with. oh, the day has gone by and I wanted to do this, this and that and I haven't done it.
So like constantly dealing with, With this, and this is why the third thing, always finding my presence in this whole thing is really for me to not go into that direction.
So one of the things that I do, one of the things that has helped me is to, first of all, understand that I always put too much on my to-do list. probably you're doing that as well, like impossible lists. then so you need to narrow it down to one, two, three things that you really want to achieve.
And then if you get that, then you feel at least accomplished.
Also, at the end of the day, instead of looking at what you haven't done to look at what you have done, even if it's spending time with your son or even if it's looking at birds.
And sometimes also the time off without doing something is extremely valuable.
Because it gets you motivated or it allows ideas to come up.
So nothing is wasted, really. Although we are constantly in our heads in that sense.
Sometimes you need to just say this and to share this information with someone because You need this.
Not everybody in my environment, they don't understand exactly what I do. how much time it takes, what do I need to do for this, you know?
You feel it's like a luxury business that you... Yes, like, what are you doing?
You're making videos? This is not a job.
Yeah. This is so easy. But then I want to talk to someone who gets me in, you know, like.
Yeah. yeah to complain a little bit or just to share my feelings that yes sometimes it's just and you need just someone to tell you this.
IT'S OKAY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING.
AND THESE THINGS, OF COURSE, THESE THINGS WILL always surface and will always come up like I have a few more years of experience than you.
And it's still there. You know, it's not like I'm all like, so everything is resolved.
Like I don't have to deal with it. But the place or the space that I give to it is a lot more limited than it used to be in the past.
So instead of like, because the energy of frustration and of self-deprecation and is just not creative energy.
It doesn't help you really get your stuff done.
So if you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Like, what do people shouldn't do to you or around you.
That's interesting. Yeah. The first thing that comes to mind is no disrespect.
Like, you know, don't disrespect me or assume things about me like or others.
Like when I see disrespect or people putting down other people because of whatever, like their gender or skin color or language. barrier, like, that really gets my... Pisses you off.
Oh, it pisses me off. And I could go crazy, like I'm very nice and everything on my videos.
But I have this side in me that I can go off on someone that hasn't been So that you know, guys.
Just so you know, yeah. Exactly, so I'm filtering myself.
No, but like if I come across injustice, then I can whether it's towards me or others.
Like I have my values, And my boundaries are very flexible, like I'm not super strict.
But when someone crosses one of those boundaries, especially when they clash with my values.
This is where I'm like, zero tolerance and zero patience.
That and people cutting me off on the road.
Like if I'm waiting to turn right and then someone cuts me off after I've been waiting for 20 minutes, oh.
I will open that window and tell him what I think.
So that's... I don't like it either, but I'm trying to keep... calm while I'm driving because you know like Sometimes it's just too stressful.
It's bad enough that it's the road and then people and cars and then my, you know, like this emotions.
Right, right. Don't laugh at me. Okay. And one last question.
So what is the most daring thing you've ever done?
Oh wow, the most daring thing. That's a good question.
Let me think about it. Okay. in business or in life in general?
Let's talk about both. Let's talk about both.
Yes. Okay, in life, I would say I... Even as a young kid, like young kid, like 17, 18, I would to fly abroad alone, and I would do things For example, like I remember myself in Paris at the age of 17 or 18, like alone, my parents were very like, you know, they trusted me and I was a good girl, right?
But I remember like just walking in this really scary area and like I was sitting at this bar and this guy kept on drinking I didn't even know how to drink and I got all like, you know, my head was spinning and I would walk around.
And in hindsight, I would look at myself and just like, what was I thinking putting myself in such a situation?
I always do, but I trust the universe and I trust people.
I've done that a lot. Like I was in Brazil and I would be walking around these like more dangerous areas.
So I don't, or I would, go to this island where no one had spoken English and I got really sick and Like I would put myself in situations that are like a bit more dangerous or scary for others.
Completely out of your comfort zone? Completely out of my comfort zone. zone and trust that things would work out and they have like always something like happens that works out.
I'm impressed. And I'm trying to think, I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of.
You know, like also moving to New York at the age of 20, you know, just like with nothing.
There were times that I would debate whether or not to buy an apple.
Because it would cost me like... 25 cents.
I'd be like, should I get that or should I get the sandwich?
I would go with the apple because I didn't have money. and I would have to pay my tuition because I was in an acting school so I really put myself on the line I would really work until late hours every day and then wake up in the morning to go to school. getting back on the train at 4 a.m. to Harlem where I lived because I couldn't afford living in a So like these are, I think these are, for me, it was just reasonable to do that.
But I feel that for others, it might have been a little daring.
I'm guessing this would be daring. I never bungee jumped, for example. i don't do like crazy uh but you know like bungee jumping for me it's like It's fine, but that what you described, It's scary.
Like, I'm just listening to this and I'm like, I wouldn't do that because I'm scared. scared you know like it's so yeah I didn't like I think I had more courage also when I was 20 now I'm more but But when it comes to new places and when it comes to money, like you know, I don't have money should I be doing this or that, I usually say I'll do this if I have the gut feeling.
Then I'll figure out. Yeah, like if it's the right decision, if I trust my intuition it is, then like everything will work out to make it happen. the right way you know even if it ends up like if it turns out as if it's not the right thing for me to have done, it wasn't the right thing for me to have done, then In hindsight, I always see that it was the right thing.
I just needed time to see or to see what that thing Yeah, so look, so I was always daring in terms of. choices, decisions.
Yes, that was the last question. Well, thank you for this interview.
Thank you so much. This is incredible and amazing.
