Welcome back to Learn English with Camille and almost all of the time.
Calvin.
We are so glad you're here with us.
We are here for a fun video that we randomly thought of, which is sharing 10 items that we cannot live without.
Obviously in the day to day, there's probably hundreds of items that we use without even thinking.
And so our idea is to share and have a little conversation, And in the meantime, you will learn a lot of vocabulary.
If you're new here, welcome.
If you're here for the hundredth time, welcome back.
You're amazing.
If you don't know, I write books.
I have dialogue books.
I have short story books.
So if you're like, I want Camille in my life every day, not just once a week, listening to her on the podcast or watching her on YouTube.
I share many real life stories in my books and my dialogues are real life.
You can find them on my website, learnenglishwithcamille.com or Amazon.
And if you didn't know, I have a membership now to the channel.
You can become a member and get exclusive content that way.
So Calvin, I'll give you the honors of sharing your first item that you can't live without.
What is it?
The first item that I cannot live without is my Clever Dripper.
Now, if you know coffee a little bit, some people would call this a pour over, which it is.
It can be a pour over, but it has this little switch here which stops the flow of coffee.
And so you can play around with whether it's a drip coffee or a full immersion coffee, kind of like a french press would do, and that way you get uh, you get to play with the coffee notes.
So okay, it's a little geeky, but now, staying on the note of coffee, i have coffee on my list as well.
We do like coffee.
So, yeah.
Yeah, we like specialty coffee.
I bought this, which was roasted, I think, in Mallorca.
No, no, that's probably German.
Oh, yeah, Germany.
This is roasted in Germany, but I bought it in Mallorca when I was just there on vacation.
It is from Costa Rica and it is amazing.
And even though we're huge coffee people, we usually only drink one cup a day.
So like it's sad when our coffee is finished in the morning.
This is water.
We're like, oh, coffee.
It's true.
We're coffee people and we're also sleep people.
And so we like a good night's sleep.
Which I have an item having to do with sleep.
Do you?
Uh, i don't have it, but okay, i'll share mine okay, okay.
So this is.
You guys might laugh at me.
You're gonna learn a lot about us.
That's true, What we prioritize in our lives.
Yeah.
But I have my pillow and people think this is ridiculous because it's very flat.
But I do not like a big pillow.
You know, when you arrive to like someone's house to spend the night or you go to an Airbnb or a hotel and the pillows are just massively high, my neck gets very sore.
So I like flatty patty.
Flatty patty is like sea level English.
Yes, which is very flat.
And I seriously can pack this up so tight and small and I travel with it.
Yes.
Yes.
And it has a silt pillowcase, which they say is, you know, good for your hair and your skin.
So my pillow is another thing that is on my list.
It's not on my list, but I also travel with a pillow.
Because, like she said, going from country to country, hotel or Airbnb, you get all sizes and shapes of pillows and you never know.
And when you're traveling, the worst thing that could happen is you wake up and you have that kink in your neck or you have a pinched nerve in your neck.
It's not a good feeling.
Yeah.
And I don't know if it's because we've gotten older, but we definitely like our sleep and a good night's rest.
And a good coffee.
And a good coffee.
And then we're good to go.
Okay, what is second on your list, second on my list is also actually a coffee item.
I can just bring it out once again.
Here we go.
This is also representative of.
We have another one downstairs, but this is.
You know, i don't know.
I probably paid a hundred dollars, eighty dollars, for this hand grinder.
Uh, this one does espresso and that's why um, It was either spend 80 on a hand grinder or like 300, 400 on an automatic.
So you know, good option for espresso, but I need a good grinder, because Grinding is one of the most important parts of coffee.
If you have a bad grinder, it's just gonna make your coffee extract all weird all over the place.
So you should invest in a grinder if you like good coffee.
If not, don't worry about it.
Well, you put coffee things for two out of the 10 on your list, so I can see how important coffee is for you, Calvin.
Yes, 20% of my items.
20% of life.
Is coffee.
Oh, my goodness.
Okay.
Next on my list is actually another thing having to do with kind of comfort.
And I struggled with neck problems for a long time.
And I am fine now, but I found tools that help me.
And this is like filled with seeds, I think, or rice or something.
Something's in it aromatic too, because it smells.
But I basically put it around my neck like this and it's weighted and I heat it up in the microwave while making my coffee in the morning, so it's going to be heated.
And then every morning I keep this on me for at least 30 minutes and I feel like it just helps my muscles.
It helps me relax.
Sometimes I put it on my stomach if I'm like really crampy for my period.
So you can put this on your lower back.
Like you can put this anywhere.
The heat pack, like it's heavy, so I don't travel with it.
And I miss it when we travel.
I'm like, oh, I could use my heat pack right now.
So this is just a wonderful purchase and something that I use at least once a day.
It's nice also when it's wintertime because it keeps you warm.
Nice heat pack.
Yeah.
I also have one.
We do a lot of the things.
We get hurt at the same time, apparently.
But yes, it comes in handy a lot.
I didn't bring it but a cream, like a sort of neck cream or muscle cream.
That also helps our health.
We're getting older.
We're talking about our aches and pains.
Oh, my gosh.
Okay.
I can't fit my next item here, but it is a bike.
Maybe we can flash a photo.
I'll send a photo.
Yeah.
And yeah, I have a mountain bike.
I'm looking for a road bike.
I love biking.
I have or any chance I have, I take my bike to anything in the city.
And then I also use it for exercise.
So I can't live without my bike.
Yeah, he's a big biker.
Having to do with exercise, I do have something on my list, which is, oh, sorry about that.
Something else tipped over.
Okay.
I have a pile of stuff.
This is pretty giant.
It's my yoga mat and it's kind of thick and it's amazing.
And I use it every day.
I use it every day.
Yeah, it's true.
It's true.
So I don't do yoga every day, but I stretch every day.
Like this morning, I use my workout mat.
I do a lot of free weight things.
I do a lot of calisthenics.
I do yoga and Pilates.
I do stretching.
So that yoga mat gets a lot of me time on it every day.
Yeah, it's great.
The floor can get cold, too.
So it's kind of like a like a buffer against that.
And it's softer, obviously, than hardwood.
Yeah.
Yeah.
When we're traveling again.
I'm like oh, if the house doesn't have a yoga mat.
I'm like oh, my knees, like I have to like use pillows or try to use some towels.
But it's just not the same yoga mat makes a big difference.
Yes, it's true.
I guess my next item is this, my phone here.
Me too.
I have my phone and my item as well.
It's a love-hate relationship.
Too much time is probably spent on it, but it's so darn useful.
You know, I have my Bible app every morning.
I read books on it.
I use it for maps, music, language learning, pretty much you name it, banking.
So, of course, it's got to be up there.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm the same.
I work on my phone.
We filmed a reel.
I'll edit my reels on my phone.
We pretty much do a ton of things on our phone.
And this phone is actually four years old.
This iPhone and the case is getting really kind of worn as well.
It's lasted pretty well, but I noticed my battery life has gone down.
It's like to 82% battery health.
So this iPhone 13 Pro is finally like kind of I'm seeing a decrease in it.
And so I'm hoping within the next year to get a new phone.
We don't get new phones every year, every two years or every three.
We try to wait four to five years because they're really expensive.
They are.
Yes.
And I mean, they are used for business and things like that.
So but yeah, they are very expensive.
They're like little computers.
Yes, exactly.
Exactly.
My next item is my hoodies.
I love a good hoodie.
I can't live without a good hoodie.
Cozy.
Yeah, exactly.
So I have quite a few.
I mean, I like have three or four.
This is like a sweater hoodie, which I wouldn't consider.
Yeah, it's true.
It's borderline.
Cotton, like when you'd work out in.
It's not as comfortable either as a good cotton hoodie.
But yeah.
Well, my next item is a clothing.
Well, it's an accessory, I guess.
But sunglasses, I just do not like when the sun is just boom in my face.
And I know natural sunlight in the morning for 20 or 30 minutes is really good for our eyes, for our bodies.
But I definitely wear my sunglasses on the daily, I would say.
She's like a superstar.
I am.
And I really love them.
And I don't buy expensive sunglasses either.
These are $40.
And I bought them last week.
January and unfortunately they've already gotten some scratches in them.
But um yeah, I love my sunny G's.
Yeah, they are helpful at the sun today, not so much.
It's cloudy today yeah uh, my next item is actually I'm looking out.
It's a good view.
It's not necessarily like an item, but hey, It's something I can't live without.
I have to go and find the best view.
I have to hopefully live in a place where I can look out and you know, it's not like a brick wall or something you know.
I actually had the sunroom on my list and I took it off because the sunroom has the best view in the house.
We can see the ocean and the river and just it's beautiful.
But then I was like, well, that's kind of hard to show them.
I can't like lift up my sunroom.
Yeah, well, we can put a photo up.
Yeah.
Okay, so you had that next item.
Well, something I do every day is sit in the sunroom every morning with my coffee and my Bible.
And my Bible is on my list because it is like my lifeline.
I'm a Christian.
I follow Jesus.
And I believe that this is his word.
And so every day, reading his word, I get strength and I feel like I grow in wisdom and knowledge of who he is and grow closer to God.
So I know you mentioned you read your Bible on your phone. which I do as well.
But also there's nothing like having a physical coffee at the Bible.
It's true.
And Camille is reading through the whole Bible this year.
So it's an accomplishment because it's a pretty long book.
Yeah.
Well, I've read through the Bible actually many times in my life, but it's been a long time since I read through it quicker.
I'm doing it in six months, actually.
Yeah, that's quick.
Yeah.
And, alongside of reading the Bible, every morning I am reading something called the Bible Recap, which is a book, So I read chapters from the Bible and then I read the Bible recap, which is it goes further in depth and kind of like a summary, so I can just learn more.
So it's like a good at least 30 minutes every morning between those two of reading.
30 minutes well spent.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Okay, my next thing is, let's see, let's reach it.
So this thing actually, I didn't think I would like it as much as I do.
But I was like, wow, I should probably talk about it.
But it's a, it's like a running band.
You just stick it on your waist, you know, it just kind of like slides up your waist.
But you can stick keys, you can stick your headphones, your phone.
You know, instead of running, because these things are heavy, you know like running with this is like You're going to strengthen this arm.
You got to like keep swapping your hands.
Yeah.
So it's better just to have it on, you know on your waist, and then you forget about it and you just run with your hands normal.
So kind of a weird item.
But, hey, that's what I can't live without, I guess.
So you have a lot of fitness items and coffee items.
I can see what's important to Calvin.
Yes.
Yes.
I was not always into fitness in the way of just running.
I would do more sports, but I think my wife has influenced me to do jogging and things like that.
Well, I would say that I work out every day, not intense every day, but Calvin used to work out very little.
And then he works out pretty much every day now, too.
Yeah.
I like to do, yeah, something.
Either more body stuff or running or biking.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
That's good.
Well, my next item is kind of a lot of items, but I recently I painted a lot in the past and then I started painting again.
You need help with that?
And so these are my paints and these are all like my paint things.
So I don't buy like really expensive paints because my kids love to paint with me too.
So I buy like acrylic paper, you know, and then I have.
You know, what I really like to use is like a painting spatula, but I do have paint brushes as well.
And then I just have different acrylic paints.
Here's some paint brushes.
Yes.
For those wondering what brushes are.
And then I have two types of... Ooh, did you say two?
Smells painty.
I know.
So I use both types.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And so my paints, I think it's good to have a creative outlet.
Right now...
Painting is probably one of my creative outlets.
And I mean, of course, creating content as well.
And then learning the piano.
Another creative outlet.
I didn't put that on there.
Oh, that's true.
It's hard to do just 10 items.
It is.
I forgot about my ukulele, of course.
Oh, I can't believe it.
I didn't even need to go run and get it.
You blew it, so i'm gonna swap out.
Okay, let me get it.
Let me get it, i'm coming, i'm coming.
Calvin took out an item and added his ukulele.
Okay, so this is this is my ukulele.
That's probably out of tune.
You are getting better, though.
You've been practicing.
Yeah.
Oh, it's so out of tune.
Okay, anyways.
But at least you gave it a shout out.
Yes, the ukulele made an appearance.
Maybe it'll keep coming on the videos.
We'll see.
Well, I have just like one more, I think.
Oh, no, I have two more.
Okay.
So this one's a kitchen item, which I only brought part of it, you guys.
It's so heavy, actually.
It's a very heavy-duty...
It's a Vitamix brand.
So these things are a beast and they're not cheap.
They're like $500.
But we use it at least once a day.
Yesterday I made almond butter in here.
I made my protein smoothie.
I made a smoothie.
We blend soups in here.
We eat sorbet in here.
We do everything in here.
It is an amazing thing.
Oat flour, almond milk.
I mean, you could just do a million things.
Yeah, I make salsa in it.
Yeah, I love this.
We bought it basically right when we moved in two years ago, and it has so much wear and tear.
It's true.
It's pretty bad.
It has a five-year warranty, so hopefully it lasts longer.
And even more than that.
Yes.
I think they last like 10 years.
So worth it.
Oh, 100 percent.
Everyday use.
Yeah.
OK.
Well, I'm trying to decide, I guess I guess I'll do this one.
It's kind of funny.
I have my my credit card.
It it's it's an American credit card.
It's it's a Chase Sapphire card for travel or anything like that.
There's no like international fees and we get a ton of points.
You know, I throw all my business stuff on it.
And it's basically allowed us to travel to a few destinations almost free.
I think we went from the U.S. to Italy for like $16 or $30 or something like that.
Five people.
Five people.
Yeah.
So if you play your credit cards right, then yeah, you can get good sign up bonuses and unfortunately it's usually only if you live in the USA and obviously it's very important not to get into debt, so we always pay it off.
But If you're okay financially and okay spending and don't have a weakness for purses, then a credit card is a good thing.
And so, yeah, it's something I can't live without.
I would say the same.
We have a lot of the same things, but good work.
Talking about different items to give you guys more vocab.
Yes.
I think I'm down to my last item now.
Okay.
Which is this blanket.
I love a soft.
Nice blanket.
It's cold in northern Portugal, probably six months out of the year.
It's chillier.
Yeah, for sure.
It never gets.
Yeah.
And so these blankets are a lifesaver.
They're just so cozy.
We're watching a movie if I'm not reading because we use our sunroom year round as well.
But sometimes it's a little chilly in there.
Yeah.
I just love a good blanket.
There's nothing like comfort to me.
Yeah, no, they are very comfortable blankets.
I'm glad we bought those.
Yeah, I think that was it, right?
I think I did 10?
Yeah, I think so.
Okay.
Wow, we flew through this video.
What are some items that you can't live without?
We would love to hear from you in the comments.
Let us know.
As always, thank you so much for watching our video.
Don't forget to subscribe and we'll see you again soon.
See you later.
Bye.
