Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace and a Friday morning.
I have a friend, he's always learning new things and right now he's learning to play
the piano.
And to be fair, although he learns a lot of things, he's actually really good at most of the
things he learns.
Anyway, he was with his piano teacher and his piano teacher was asking him to do, I
think a little more practice, you know.
And he said to his teacher, I just don't have time at the moment.
And to be fair, I think for all of us right now, time is a little tricky, you know, there's
not only, you know, he has a family, there's homeschooling going on with the school still
shut, there's work, there's lots and lots of different things to look after.
But anyway, the teacher looked at him and said, well, of course you don't have time.
He has time, you have to make time.
There's something in that.
The only way that we're going to make time is by uncovering it, by removing one thing
to make space for another.
There's really no other way of doing it.
So then it gets down to sort of what's most important to us.
And what's most important to us is really different from what's the easiest thing to do.
Because we all know it's easy to just flop down on the sofa and to watch hours of TV or
whatever we might do.
We all know it's really easy to sit there and to scroll through social media any moment
that we have some spare time.
The truth is there are lots of things that we might do through the day, the create an
illusion that there is no time.
When actually there are moments of time, it's just that we're choosing to do other things.
So how do we get to a point where we can start to let go of some of those things or we
can start to prioritize what are the things that make us feel healthy, what are the things
that make us feel happy, what brings a greater sense of joy or pleasure or rhythm or flow
to our life.
So often in life we actually know what those things are, but because they're not the
easiest things to do, we don't necessarily do them.
But they won't happen on their own, they're not going to happen by accident.
And sometimes, although we don't want to be too rigid about these things, it's nice
to have some spontaneity in life.
Sometimes we just have to get into the mode of scheduling things.
We have to create time, create space in our day and in our life for the things that matter
to us, for the things that we know will make us feel different and things that we know
will make those around us feel different as well.
So as you head into this weekend, maybe just considering that as an idea, I think for
all of us right now, it's so easy to say I don't have time.
Maybe we're saying it to our friends, maybe we're saying it to our children, to our family,
to our work colleagues, whatever it might be, it's so easy to just assume that there isn't
enough time, rather than actually looking at our life and thinking, well, if I really
wanted to do this thing, how am I going to make time for it?
How am I going to create the space in my mind and in my life?
Because if we look closely, there's a good chance, it may not be as much time as we'd
like it to be, but there's a good chance that we can find some time.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks for listening today.
I look forward to seeing you back here on Monday.
