How often should you wash your bed sheets?
Thanks for asking.
We spend a lot of time in bed and there's nothing nicer than snuggling up in clean fresh
sheets, but apparently not everyone feels the same.
According to a survey commissioned by Pizzuna Linins of over 2,000 people in the UK,
it was discovered that 45% of single men are happy to wait up to 4 months to wash their
sheets with a horrifying 12%, only doing it when they remembered.
So who knows how long they wait.
Women were shown to have slightly higher standards of hygiene with 62% of single women washing
their sheets every 2 weeks, but even this is just not enough with experts agreeing that
you should wash your sheets at least once a week.
But why do you need to wash them so often?
While some people don't wash their sheets through laziness about 35% or forgetfulness, 67%,
others feel that they're just not that dirty since they have a shower before going to bed.
But they are wrong.
Even if you take a shower every night before you go to bed and be honest, do you take
a shower every night?
But even if you did, there is still a horrifying amount of unpleasant things lurking unseen
in our beds.
For a start, humans produce roughly 26 gallons of sweat in bed per year, and all that
sweat, especially when it's hot, creates an ideal environment for bacteria and fungus
to grow.
There are also plenty of microbes and not just yours.
Colin, soil, lint, dust mites and finishing agents from whatever your sheets are made of
are also present.
To name, but a few.
Add to this pet hair if you have a pet and whatever else your pet, child or you have touched
that day and accidentally transferred onto your bed and you can imagine what seems to
be a nice clean sheet is in fact a filthy, germ-infested pit.
And it's not just your sheets.
When kits and duvetes should also be washed every two to three months and pillows every
four to six months.
And anything you have on your bed so that might include stuff toys for children or
comfortors.
What is the best way to wash them?
Cool or even cold water is best for regular washing.
It helps preserve your sheets and is better for the environment.
However, to get sheets really clean, a hot wash at 60 degrees is advised to kill dust mites
or other pests and it's often better for removing stains.
It's also advised to avoid using fabrics off now as this leaves residue on the sheets
and builds up over time reducing fabrics absorbency and breathability.
Follities which are very important for bedding.
