Ozempic became popular among Hollywood celebrities for its appetite suppressing properties.
Elon Musk has tweeted about it three times, giving it partial credit for his having lost £30 in late 2022.
Over on TikTok, users have also been singing Ozempic's praises for a while now, with the hashtag having reached 13 billion views at the time of recording this episode.
That's great news, isn't it?
Well, the flip side is that the surge in Ozempic's popularity has had repercussions on the global economy and drug supply.
Furthermore, there can be side effects for those who take it.
In early summer 2023, American comedian Amy Schumer appeared on talk show What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
She admitted to having tried Ozempic herself, experiencing weight loss but also uncontrollable side effects.
She went on to point fingers at other Hollywood celebs who she believed were taking Ozempic but denying it, their mom's gonna try it.

How does it work exactly?
Ozempic is a brand name for semaglutide and, as I said earlier, it's actually designed to treat diabetes.
It's administered in the form of a weekly injection and is considered very effective at protecting the cardiovascular health of people with diabetes.
Its slimming effects are due to how it acts as an appetite suppressant, slowing down the passage of food into the intestines and thereby creating a sense of fullness.
According to diabetesorguk, Ozempic is a GLP-1 analogue, which means that it mimics the hormone GLP, which is secreted by our intestinal cells when we digest food, leading to insulin secretion.
However, the drug can have side effects.
The most common ones listed on ozempiccom are nausea diarrhea vomiting, stomach pain and constipation.
More worrying though are the links with thyroid tumours, including cancer.
What drug supply issues has Ozempic's popularity caused?
Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical company which manufactures Ozempic, has admitted several times in recent months that it's not always able to meet demand on time.
The concern is that people with diabetes may no longer have access to the medication they need if it's being misused by others.
That could be through drug diversion or off-label prescribing when individuals receive Ozempic for a condition other than diabetes, like weight loss.
Bear in mind that for now, in the UK, Ozempic can only be prescribed for treating diabetes.
Meanwhile, its sister drug Wegovy, became available as a weight management treatment option on the NHS as of early September 2023.
However, government guidelines say patients are only eligible within a specialist service if they have at least one weight-related comorbidity and a BMI of 30 or higher.
