Hello welcome to Welcome Back To Parented Care, if you're new here, my name is Ashley and today we have another Q & A.
I usually do these like every few weeks, once a month and if you ever want to ask me questions and possibly be in one of these episodes follow me on Instagram, because that's usually where I pull the questions from.
I usually ask my story.
I also have a link in the show notes to a Google form where you can ask me questions if you want certain episodes, anything like that.
That's in the Google form.
I check those like once a month, too.
But today's Q &A is going to be all about glowing up and feeling our best summer.
So we actually have a hot girl summer, because let me tell you, it does not feel like a hot girl summer yet.
I live in Connecticut, so it is still cold and raining like today's 50 degrees.
It's almost June. What's going on?
I don't know, but I need to tan.
And also this past weekend, my Saturn return started.
If you don't know what that means, basically every, like, 26 to 29 years where Saturn was in the sky when you were born, it returns to that place.
And when that happens, it basically rearranges your entire life.
There is a lot of change, you're stepping into your true self, you're reassessing your life.
There is a lot of uncomfortable growth.
It's not always a bad thing but this past week has been hell for me.
I just am not doing well.
But it's fine. I know that growth is uncomfortable and everything is gonna be great, but it's just not feeling like a hot girl summer, so I'm hoping that this episode helps me, helps you, and we get hot girl summer started.
We're gonna talk about skincare, how to glow up naturally on a budget, dealing with FOMO, how to feel confident in a bikini, and also food guilt, so let's get into today's episode!
The first question is, what are some easy things that I can do right now to feel better about my skin?
I'm going to give you some tips, but I think one of the most important things to remind yourself when you're struggling with your skin, whether it be hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, acne, whatever it is, no one's going to notice that unless they're insecure about it themselves and if someone's insecure about something and they're noticing that you have that thing too, more than likely they're not judging you.
If anything, them noticing that you also have something that they have that they're insecure about is going to make them feel better about themselves.
Them noticing that you have acne or you have cellulite is going to make them feel better about themselves because it makes them feel less alone.
Like I used to be so insecure about my dark undereye circles I wanted to get rid of them so badly, but when I saw people that I admired, that I thought were so beautiful, also having dark undereye circles it made me want to embrace them more.
Me seeing some of the most beautiful people have dark under eye circles made me realize one.
I'm not alone but two it's not the worst thing in the world like the only reason I'm noticing that they have dark under eye circles is Because I'm insecure about them, and I'm looking for that because I'm so hyper aware of it But at the end of the day They're not any less beautiful and also that's the least interesting thing about them like I don't need to change them I don't need to get rid of them.
I need to embrace them I need to shift my mindset on how I view my dark under -eye circles.
I think there also comes a time where you have to realize that there's only so much that you can do.
There's only so many products that you can use and so many procedures that you can get done, and even when you do all of that, you still probably aren't gonna look the way that this other person does, and you might not look exactly the way that you're envisioning in your head.
For example, another insecurity that I've had throughout my life is cellulite on my thighs, because if you don't know, your girl kind of has butt.
I kind of have a booty and when you have a booty, a lot of the time you need some fat to hold up your booty and what comes with that is cellulite and I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that sometimes it doesn't bother me when I'm looking at photos and I'm like damn, okay.
Yeah, she has a lot of cellulite, which is fine there's nothing wrong with it but that is an insecurity of mine and I can do every exercise that I see on TikTok that says - that gets rid of cellulite.
I can use every moisturizer and I can gua sha and I can try to sculpt my legs, but I might still have cellulite because that's my body and that's how my skin looks and if it's something that I can't change there's no point in me beating myself up over it and wishing things were different, wishing that my skin looked differently.
I've done everything that I believe I can do and it still looks like that - okay well that's just my body, that's just my skin.
In my opinion, it's better to learn to love yourself, love your skin, love your body, love who you are, rather than your focus being on I have to change it, I have to change myself.
I think it's better to take care of yourself and do what you can than shame yourself and wish you looked different.
With that being said, if you are insecure about anything, but specifically your skin, taking action is always going to be your best bet.
You might not be able to change how you look or you might not be able to afford getting work done, but if you take time to take care of yourself, you're going to feel better than you would if you weren't because you feel more in control, you feel like you're actually doing something.
Like with me being insecure about my cellulite, I'm obviously going to feel more insecure if I'm just doing nothing.
Whereas if I'm using moisturizers and I'm doing exercises, it might not change anything, but at least in my mind I'm like, well, I'm trying.
At least I tried. I know I'm going to feel better and I'm going to feel more confident if I self -tan my legs or I wear moisturizer before going out.
I know when I take photos I'm not gonna be so focused on like, oh my legs don't look the way that I want them to because I did what I could.
I tanned my legs, I moisturized my legs.
They look the best that they're going to look.
It's not going to fix all my problems, it's not going to get rid of all my insecurities together, but it's going to make me feel a little bit better about them.
But before I start rambling on and on about self -love and embracing your body, because that's where I stand.
I really do believe that at the core you should do your best to love yourself, because that's all you got.
That's all you got.
At the end of the day, at the end of your life, that's all you got.
But I am going to give you tips because I know that's what you actually want, that's what you came here for.
So tip number one to feeling better about your skin is staying hydrated.
I know, you don't want to hear it, but you need to be hydrated.
You need to drink water and it's not even a hard thing to do.
It's just annoying.
It's an annoying thing to do to remember to drink your water.
Believe me, I know.
I'm one of those people that I could be parched, my mouth is drying up and I'm just too lazy to go refill my water.
So I don't. I don't drink the water or I forget to bring my water with me when I leave the house and I'm like Oh, you know what?
I'm parched. I should get a drink and I get a Dunkin' Ice coffee instead of a water.
But staying hydrated is going to impact how your skin looks and how your skin feels.
It's going to make you feel and look more refreshed it's going to make you look and feel less puffy.
If you're someone who has a hard time drinking water, the best thing that you can do when you first wake up is force yourself to drink a full glass of water.
Make up for the fact that you're probably not going to drink water for a while or none at all throughout the day.
If you actually want to be on top of it, get yourself a water bottle that you're excited to drink out of and I know that sounds weird like why am I going to be excited to drink out of a water bottle.
Just get one that fits your Aesthetic that's cute that you're like excited to show your friends and just like bring it around with you I have a 40 -ounce Stanley.
That's like a collab with Duncan.
It's very cute. It's very aesthetic It's white or like beige, and I love it, and I try to drink at least two 40 ounces of that day I started doing that when I did 75 hard I would drink three of those a day And it just kind of became a habit of mine that I've tried to keep up with obviously not all the time like I said There's days where I'm like oh, I'm parched and then I just don't drink water because I'm an asshole but I do try to drink water because I have noticed a difference in my skin and my body.
When I'm not drinking water, my skin looks like the episode of SpongeBob where he's like a shriveled up sponge.
That's what my skin looks like when I'm not drinking water!
So I try to avoid that.
This episode is sponsored by Graza.
It's almost summer which means it's almost time for grilling sandwiches at the beach and snacking by the pool and Graza is the perfect ingredient to make all of your summer snacks and meals delicious.
Graz is a single -origin olive oil that comes in three different options.
Frizzle, sizzle, and drizzle.
Frizzle is perfect for grilling, frying, or crisping.
Sizzle is an everyday oil for roasting, marinating, and sauteing.
And drizzle is perfect for topping off your salad, a sandwich, or even ice cream.
These are some of my favorite foods to eat during the summer using Graza.
An arugula salad with lemon, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and drizzle.
Eggs fried in sizzle on avocado toast with bacon and drizzle on top.
And then of course, chicken legs on the grill marinated in frizzle, lemon juice, and rosemary.
So good. I also love bringing Drizzle with me when I'm hanging out with friends or going to the beach just to add to sandwiches or salads.
It's so easy to bring with you because it's in a squeeze bottle which means no messes.
And if you want to try out Graza, you can get 10 % off your first order on Graza's site but I personally suggest grabbing the trio.
That's all three squeezy bottles, sizzle, fizzle, and drizzle.
So you're set for every style of cooking.
So head to Graza .co and use T and TC to get 10 % of the trio, which includes sizzle, frizzle, and drizzle, and get to cooking your next chef quality meal.
Second tip is figure out what products do and don't work for your skin.
Like, don't be following a skincare regimen just because your favorite influencer is promoting it.
And don't be following a makeup routine just because it's trending on TikTok if those products aren't for your skin type.
Obviously, I'm going to recommend some products to you today, but that doesn't mean you need to buy them just because I'm telling you that I like them.
I have kind of combination, normal to combination skin.
Not too oily. Not too dry.
But if that's not your skin type maybe don't listen to what i'm going to say.
Maybe don't buy those products.
More products doesn't mean better products.
More expensive products doesn't mean better products.
The best thing that you can do is keep your skin clean, whether it's just washing your face with water and soap or finding a cleanser that works for you.
I use Noxxema. People hate that I use Noxxema but it works for me.
and keep your skin moisturized.
Typically when you keep your skin moisturized, it's going to appear smoother, softer and more balanced.
Like I said, just because I recommend products doesn't mean you need to buy them, but some of my favorites body moisturizers are the Josie Murend Whipped Argan Oil Firming Body Butter in topless tangerine.
It is the best summer scent.
You smell like a freshly squeezed orange.
It's the best and then the EOS Body Lotion in vanilla cashmere.
I use year round. It just smells divine and it makes your body so soft without like feeling greasy.
I hate moisturizers that make your body feel greasy.
Third tip is actually going to go before you moisturize your body.
Exfoliate your body in the shower.
When you exfoliate it's going to get rid of any dead dry skin and just make your skin so soft. I actually use the same scent from Josie Moran, the toplist tangerine and their exfoliator but you can use any exfoliator and I just use a washcloth.
I always make sure to exfoliate before I shave because I feel like it pulls the hair out of the skin and just makes it easier and a cleaner shave. Next question, what is your tanning routine?
I'm so glad you asked because I feel like I finally got this down to a science.
I feel like I finally know how to get a good even tan.
The first thing that I do is lather SPF all over my body, all over my face.
I used to be one of those people that was like I don't need sunscreen like I don't burn.
I tan and that's great, but that's not going to protect you from skin cancer, babe.
I don't really care about what SPF I use as long as I have SPF on.
And then I'll spray my body with water mainly because I get so hot while I'm tanning and I feel like if I put water on my body, I'm more likely to sit out and more likely to get more tan.
But the main reason I do this is water magnifies.
Allegedly. Water magnifies sunlight.
I have to say allegedly because it's like...this...I didn't make this up.
I read on the internet.
It might not even be true.
Water magnifies sunlight so it's going to increase the UV exposure wherever the water's on your body.
So in my head, this is just going to speed up the process of tanning and I feel like I don't have to sit out as long if I'm tanning more.
My secret weapon to actually getting dark though is the Maui Bay Browning Lotion.
The texture of it is so nasty!
Whenever I put it on my body, I feel like a greasy little chicken teriyaki.
It is so greasy and grimy.
I feel like a little snail and it's also so dangerous to have around any towels or clothing that you like because it does stain.
But it makes you so tan.
I'm not super specific with what products I use on my face when I'm tanning.
I just always make sure to have some type of SPF for my face.
I don't like putting the SPF that I have on my body because usually it's a little too greasy and it makes me break out.
And then a lip product that I've been loving for when I'm tanning is the Prequel Lip Visor Sunscreen SPF 30 in Rose Dust. It's like a tinted lip gloss but with SPF in it and then after tanning when I go home and I shower this is just as important in my opinion is when I get in the shower I'll put Noxzema on any sunburn that I have. Noxzema is what I use to wash my face, but apparently people have been using it for like years to get rid of sunburn.
I just found this out last year and it actually works, so I put that on any sunburn.
Then when I get out of the shower I use the Maui Bab Aftersun, it's like this white conditioning moisturizer.
I lather my body with that, it's supposed to like heal your skin, develop your tan more, make you look tanner, I don't really know, but it makes my skin look good and it makes my skin soft. How do I make my hair and skin glow naturally without spending a lot of money?
I love this question because we are definitely living at a time where overconsumption is such a trend right now.
We're always being pushed new products.
I mean, I'm pushing new products right now too, but I think we forget that just because we're being pushed products doesn't mean that we need to buy them.
We don't need to buy every trending product.
We don't need to buy a product because someone says we need this product.
And we don't have to feel bad that we don't have the money to buy these products.
Like we can get the same results without spending a bunch of money or spending any money at all.
Not everyone has the luxury to go out and buy these products.
I don't think it's necessary.
I think about when I was younger.
Back in my day, Youtube days when I would watch Youtube in like high school and in college, I was obsessed with DIY videos.
I loved watching videos where people will talk about like making your own hair mask or face mask or how to cut your own hair and how to do your own nails like i didn't have the money to go out and get these things done or buy these products so i would literally DIY everything i would do everything myself i think a lot of us forget that we can still do that because it's not like the trendy popular thing to do it's not being pushed on social media but we can still do it we can still glow up without spending a bunch of money.
When it comes to your skin, I'm going to be annoying.
I'm going to say it.
You're not going to like it, but I'm going to say it.
Hydration is so important.
We just went over it.
But you need to stay hydrated.
I'm not going to sit here and lecture you about drinking water.
But I will say it is summer.
I do recommend trying to incorporate more foods in your diet that are water rich, like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, because like I was saying before, water is going to make your skin looks so much better so much glowier so much softer like you can have the best skincare routine in the world if you're not hydrated your skin still probably gonna look like shit or not as good as it could if you were staying hydrated another tip is DIY exfoliating like I was saying before I love exfoliating my body in the summer but you don't need to buy an expensive exfoliator you can do a DIY scrub yourself I
used to do this all the time, it works so good and also it smells really good.
All you need is a washcloth or a glove or a loofah to exfoliate your body.
And then for the scrubs, you can do a sugar scrub with like a sugar and olive oil or a coffee scrub with coffee grounds, brown sugar and honey.
It's basically like making a potion when you're younger just being more intentional.
There's so many different scrubs that you can do and most of the stuff is in your kitchen.
Like you already have these things.
You can add essential oils that you have lying around to make it smell better.
Another thing that I love to do that again is DIY and you probably have the ingredients at your house already are DIY masks for your hair and your skin.
And the best thing about making a mask at home is you get to alter it based off what your hair your skin needs.
Like if you need more hydration, you can make a mask with avocado and honey and yogurt.
If you want to exfoliate your skin, again, you can use coffee grounds, you can use oats, you can use honey.
One mask that I do a lot when I'm dealing with acne is plain yogurt, honey and turmeric and I make like a little paste and I just put it on and then I wash it off like 15 minutes later, and that just helps like dry out the acne and I swear by it.
It's better than like anything that you're going to spend your money on.
One product that I see people using all the time that can be kind of more expensive are hair oils and it's funny to me because although there are really good hair oils out there, and there are some that I use myself.
A lot of hair oil and just like oil in general, you can make yourself at home.
All you need is olive oil or like coconut oil, and like I was saying before, if you have essential oils at home, you can add some of that into the oil to make it smell better, and then once you have your oil, just put it on the ends of your hair and this is gonna smooth any frizz, it's gonna add shine, and it's gonna seal on moisture.
I have very fine, thin hair, so I only ever put oil on the ends of my hair because if I go near the roots, if I put oil on my roots, I will look like a greasy, grimy gremlin.
It's not cute. The only time I'll put oil on my roots is if I'm doing like a hair mask overnight if I want the oil to sit in my hair overnight, and it's going to do the same job as a very expensive oil that you'd buy at like Sephora.
How to deal with FOMO when it seems like everyone's living their best life online.
It is so important to remind yourself that social media is a highlight reel.
If you are comparing your real life and your real moments to someone else's edited one, that's not fair.
They are curating what they want you to see, their happiest, best, most photogenic moments.
And let's be real. Some of those moments might not even be real.
Yeah, they might have gone on vacation, but the photo that you're seeing of them on vacation is manufactured.
You know, it looks candid, but they found a photo on Pinterest that they recreated.
They even planned out exactly where they were going to take the photo, what they would be wearing, the poses and it's not factual to what actually happened.
They look like they had a good time but they might have been fighting the entire time.
They might have been miserable the entire time and you don't know cuz they're not gonna show that.
And obviously, not every photo or video that you see online is manufactured.
What you see is just like what you get.
they're having a good time, they're just living their life, but at the same time a lot of people are only going to show those moments.
They're not going to show the moments where they're just sitting at home doing nothing or they're not going to show the moments where they're having a really bad day.
They're only going to show you the best moments their most photogenic moments, but I know that it can still be difficult.
You might understand that social media is curated.
You might understand that they're not posting their hard days or the days where they do nothing, but you still are upset because you're like, well, I have nothing to post. I didn't do anything this summer.
I don't do anything ever.
So even if they are posting their best moments, their moments are still better than mine.
Like at least they did this one thing.
Even if they didn't do anything all week, they still did this.
They still have friends.
They're still having fun and I'm not and I'm missing out.
If that sounds like you I'm going to ask you to be more intentional with your time.
FOMO is a sign that you're craving more.
It's not about lacking anything.
It's, I want more out of my life.
I feel like I'm missing out on something in my life, whether that's connections or fun or adventure or opportunities, whatever it is, you want more.
And so many of us think when we have FOMO, it's because we want that thing.
We want to be at that party.
We want to have those friends and that's not always the case.
We just want more like I would see people at a party and feel FOMO and be like, Oh God, I wish I was there.
and it's like, no I don't.
I don't wish I was there, I know if I was there I would be miserable and I would want to go home and I would want Taco Bell and I would want to be in my bed.
So it's not about being at that party or being with those people it's just like, I wish I was doing something other than what I'm doing right now.
I wish I was getting Taco Bell with my fiancee, I wish I was out with my friends, I wish I was doing something more fun than what I'm doing right now.
It has nothing to do with missing out on that opportunity, it's just I want more out of my life and that's making me more aware of it.
So instead of feeling like you're lacking something and feeling bad, use that as fuel and motivation to do more in your life.
Make a bucket list. Make a schedule.
Make a plan. And go through those plans even if you have no one to go with.
That's why so many people feel like they're doing nothing with their life and they have no fun and they have no friends and they do nothing all the time is because they're always waiting for other people.
I just went to Disney alone.
I live in Connecticut.
I went to Orlando and I went to Disney alone.
Granted, I did fly with my fiancé because I had work, but I went to Disney for two days by myself.
I wanted to go to Disney so bad, but imagine if I didn't go because my fiancé couldn't go with me, or my friends were too busy and I was just like, you know what, instead I'm going to hang out at home and miss out on something that I really want to do.
Anything that you want to do, you're very capable of doing it by yourself you just need the confidence to do it.
You're seeing other people go out and do things with their friends and you're like damn I wish I was doing that but I have no one to do it with so I'm just not gonna do it.
Why? Go do it. You see other people going to the beach with their friends and you're like oh god I wish I could go but my friends are working this summer so I guess just another summer that I don't go to the beach. Why?
Why is it gonna be another summer where you don't go to the beach?
it might not seem as fun to go alone but I'm gonna tell you right now you're gonna be alone regardless.
So would you rather be at home alone in in your bed alone or laying in the sand on the beach alone.
Pack yourself a good lunch, bring a book, bring some music.
I just gave you my full tanning routine.
Like go to the beach and enjoy yourself.
I also think that if you're struggling with this, if you're struggling with comparing your life to others and what you see online, take a break from scrolling, take a break from social media, try and log off and go and do something with your life that brings you joy.
Like even going getting a nice coffee or going for a walk or going for a drive Like there's days where I find myself spiraling and I find myself comparing myself to other people and I know that it's hard to disconnect and Do something good for yourself in that moment because you're feeling bad and you're feeling negative But just disconnecting for like ten minutes is going to change your mood so much more Especially if you're doing something that brings you so much joy Ways to feel more confident in a bikini or summer clothes so many of us feel like we have to lose weight for summer it's kind
of instilled in us so many people push this narrative of like summer it's right around the corner you better start working out you big fat pig you better start dieting cuz you need a summer body you need a bikini body but at the end of the day you do have a bikini body everybody is a bikini body and I know that's cliche and I know it it sounds like a millennial quote, but it's true.
You don't need to lose weight to put on a bikini.
You don't need to be skinny to put on a bikini.
Stop waiting to be skinnier.
You don't have to earn the right to go to the beach or go to the pool.
You don't have to look a certain way to enjoy these experiences.
You're putting on a bikini to go to the pool and read your favorite book and you're wearing a swimsuit to go to the beach with your friends and play in the water and you're putting on a little dress to go to dinner with your significant other.
You're not wearing these things to show off your body.
You're not wearing these things to be judged for your body.
Your body is not an object for others to judge.
Your body is your home.
So, instead of being so worried about what your body looks like for others, remind yourself that your body does so much for you.
Your body's for you.
It lets you swim, it lets you dance, it lets you lay out in the sun, it lets you enjoy so many good foods.
It's for you. It's not for anyone else.
You don't need to have a specific body type to feel confident or to feel beautiful.
You don't need to be so skinny to feel like you're able to wear a tank top and shorts or a little dress.
You don't need to change your body to wear those clothes.
It's not about changing your body.
It's about owning the one that you have and shifting your mindset and reminding yourself, my body is perfect just the way it is.
My body is not the problem, my mind sets the problem." I definitely have struggled with my body image, some days are better than others.
But one thing that has been a big issue for me is the noise online.
I know for a fact that I can't follow accounts that promote losing weight.
I can't entertain skinny talk because when you only follow accounts that promote losing weight.
Or that make skinny this like end -all be -all goal that everyone should want, and everyone should be able to achieve.
You start to believe that everyone else thinks that way and everyone wants that and that's not the truth, not everyone wants that.
Not everyone cares.
It really messes with your perception of real life and real bodies and real people.
If you are struggling with your body, I am telling you, please unfollow skinny talk.
Do not feed that. Curate the media that you consume.
Curate your life. Fill your feed and fill your life with diverse real bodies, real people, all sizes.
It retrains your brain to see beauty in more than one way because that's the reality.
It's not just one size, but if that's all that you're consuming, if that's the only message that you're being told that you have to be skinny, that skinny is the only way to be beautiful, of course, you're going believe that.
Of course you're gonna feel bad about yourself.
Don't feed into that, don't let that be a message that's being pushed to you.
Another thing that's really helped me when it comes to feeling more confident in my body is not feeling the need to wear things just because they're trendy or in style or I should be wearing them because of the season.
If you don't feel comfortable wearing a little miniskirt or a dress or a bikini, don't wear it.
A big part of confidence is feeling good.
I don't care if I might look better in a crop top.
If I'm insecure about my stomach and how it looks I know I don't want it hanging out.
I know that I'm going to feel better wearing clothes that fit me better or are larger size because that's just what's going to make me feel better.
I'm going to feel way more confident.
I always feel way more confident and like oversized clothes.
I feel like the cutest girl in the world wearing oversized clothes.
I know I'm not going to be able to be the best version of myself if I'm wearing clothes that make me insecure because I know that I'm only gonna be focused on that and the best version of me is not focused on my insecurities.
The best version of me is focused on being present and having fun and having good conversations and eating good food and just enjoying my life.
Wear what fits good and what feels good.
Don't worry about fitting into a smaller size just because it's a smaller size.
I mean, half the time, sizing isn't accurate.
It's so inconsistent and it's just made up.
It's honestly made up.
It's stupid. Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in, that you feel confident in, choose clothes that you're excited about.
Like focus more on like the fabric and the design and the quality of it.
Go in thrift clothes that you're excited to find and wear out and that be what you're more excited about rather than being so focused on the size of the clothes or what your body looks like in the clothes.
Be excited about being able, having the opportunity to wear these clothes.
And then lastly, how do you not compare what you eat to what your friends eat.
Food is definitely something that I've struggled with.
There's a lot of food noise whether it be online or just in your mind or people around you.
I remember last year I went to a party and it was like buffet style food so you serve yourself and I definitely served myself.
I filled up my plate there was no room left on my plate because there was so much good food and I'm so excited.
Like I was so excited to sit down and and I had made a joke to the person next to me saying, this is my second dinner, probably gonna have a third later, like just talking about how I love to eat and someone from across the table who wasn't even in the conversation was like, yeah, we can tell, yeah, we know, like talking about how much food I got and in that moment I was just sick to my stomach, started tearing up and I don't even think I ended up eating all my food because I was just so embarrassed because that was something that I had dealt with my entire life, I felt like everyone was always
commenting on how much food I ate.
Like if I went up for seconds or thirds, it was like, how are you still hungry?
Or if I wanted dessert, it's like, how are you not full?
And I developed this thing of looking at what other people were eating and being so hyper aware of what other people were eating, and then feeling bad about my choices and what I was eating.
Like if I was out with a friend and they were eating a salad, I would be like, okay, maybe I should get a salad.
Or, if I ate dinner and I was still hungry, but no one else was hungry, I'd be questioning, like, should I get more food?
Like, I probably shouldn't because no one else is hungry.
Like, I must just have a problem if I'm this hungry.
And then it became this thing of, well, I already had carbs today.
Like, I had a bagel this morning, so I definitely shouldn't have a sandwich for lunch, and my friend's having a salad, so I should opt for the salad instead.
And I even now find myself having difficulties with that on social media, like, what I eat in a days.
And that's why I don't know if it's productive of me to be posting what I eat in a days, because sometimes I'll watch them and I'll start comparing what I eat to what other people eat like I'll watch a video and be like wow I eat way more than this person or oh wow I eat way too much of this one specific food or like this person doesn't have dessert and I eat dessert every single day like I have a sweet treat every single day and it just becomes this thing where you're feeling ashamed for being hungry and you're be a thing like you don't have to earn eating food.
I'm not gonna pretend that it's not something that I don't still struggle with but something that's really helped me is reminding myself that everyone's body is different so if we have different bodies we have different needs like do you ever question when a guy eats more than you when your boyfriend's eating more than you know because you're like well he's bigger than me and he has more muscle than me so he must need more food and more fuel.
It's the same thing with your body isn't your friends body, it isn't your boyfriend's body, it isn't someone you see online's body.
You have different genetics, you have different hormones, you have different hunger levels, you have different activity levels, you have different goals.
What's right for them might not nourish you the same way.
There's times where I've hung out with people and we go all day together and they just don't eat and there was times where I'd be with them and I just wouldn't eat because they weren't eating and I would go home and I'd feel so exhausted and I'd be so hungry.
And it's like, you don't have to wait for other people to eat.
You don't have to eat the same things that other people eat.
You don't have to be on the same schedule as them.
You have different bodies and that's nothing to feel guilty about.
With that being said, focus on your fullness and your satisfaction.
Your goal is to enjoy the food and to feel good and to fuel your body.
And it has nothing to do with what other people are eating or what they're doing.
Your goal is to enjoy your food and to feel good and feel your body.
And you're not going to be able to do that by focusing on someone else, because you don't have their body.
You don't have the same needs, the same goals.
So it doesn't matter.
If someone wants to eat a salad for lunch and that's going to fuel them and that's going to make them feel good, great.
But it's also great that you're craving chicken and fries and a crisp Coke.
If that's going to make you feel good, if that's what you want, if that's what your body's craving, if that's what's going to make you happy, there's no reason to feel bad about it.
If your body is asking for more food, guess what?
It's hungry. It needs fuel.
It's working really hard and it needs you to work with it.
If your body's craving something, just listen to that.
If you want that soda or that dessert, why are you gonna be like, no, you can't have that because my friend doesn't eat dessert.
So what? You don't eat salads.
You don't see your friends stop eating salads because you don't eat salads.
Listen to your body, not what other people are telling you What you should be doing with your body or what you should be eating your body knows better than anyone else when that person had made that comment about what I was eating I Immediately wanted to defend myself and be like well I'm drinking tonight like I want to make sure that I eat enough or I want to be like well I didn't really eat that much earlier, or you know I just wanted to Make an excuse for why it was okay.
I was eating and it's like you don't need to do that.
You don't need to justify how much you're eating, you don't have to justify your hunger, you don't have to justify your cravings, you don't have to be like, well I didn't have sweets all week so I get to have this cookie.
No! If you want the cookie five times a week have the damn cookie.
The only people that are going to tell you that you shouldn't be eating that cookie are your doctor who knows your medical records and they're gonna suggest what's best for you and people who are free to eat that cookie.
You don't need to justify what you're eating to other people, not even yourself.
You don't need to justify why you're eating more than your friends.
Yes, food is fuel, but it's also an experience, and it's an experience that you have the right to.
You don't need to earn the right to eat.
You should enjoy eating the food because you deserve it.
But that is where I'm going to end today's Q &A, mainly because my dogs are staring at me being like, mama, can we go outside?
And they've just been looking at me for too long.
I think it's time. I think it's time I give my pups what they want.
So, with that being said, I'm going to end it here.
I hope you enjoyed today's Q &A.
