It's imagination time with Katie. Hi friends.
Last month, during imagination time, we imagined different ways we can do our part in the community.
One of the things we imagined was writing a letter to say thank you to the firefighters who have such an important job in keeping our neighborhoods safe. and we tease how fun it might be to imagine being firefighters in an episode of the podcast.
Well, here is that episode. It's inspired by the super simple song, Here Comes the Fire Truck.

I'm Katie and this is Zach. Hello, hello.
Zach is playing the piano. It sounds very nice and gentle.
But what if we wanted a different kind of sound?
What if we wanted a loud sound? The kind of sound that makes people look up and pay attention because there's something important happening.
Yeah, that's a different kind of sound, isn't it?
That sounds like a siren! We can make a siren sound using our voices, too.
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh I think that sound will come in handy because, in today's Imagination Adventure, we're pretending to be firefighters.
Firefighters use the siren sound on the fire truck to warn everyone they're coming through so they can get to emergencies quickly.
But before we can get to our imagination adventure, let's take a moment to relax our bodies and clear our minds.
Ready, Zach? Ready, Katie. Are you ready, friends?
Let's close our eyes and take a deep breath all together.
In one, two, three, hold it Out three, two, one firefighters are there to help when there's an emergency.
They have to stay calm no matter what so they can do their important work.
Let's practice that nice feeling of calm inside our bodies.
We can notice how our muscles feel. Maybe our eyes are being squeezed shut when we can just gently keep them closed instead.
Try relaxing all the muscles in your body.
From the top of your head down to the tips of your toes.
Let's take one more deep breath. Then we'll be ready for anything, just like the firefighters.
In one, two, three, hold it Out three, two, one We're ready to save the day.
Here comes the fire truck driving down the street Here comes the fire truck beep Here comes the fire truck Look at it go Here comes the fire truck Wave hello I imagine I can see a big fire truck parked outside the fire station.
It's bright red with big wheels. and a big ladder on top.
Can you see it in your mind? I wonder what it would be like to ride in such a big truck.
When the alarm goes off, that means it's time to go and we'll have to jump into the truck as fast as we can.
We just have to make sure we're ready when it's time.
One of the ways firefighters stay ready for an emergency is by warming up their bodies.
Firefighters have to be strong. They wear heavy clothing to protect themselves from fire.
And they have to carry heavy equipment. Let's pretend to warm up our bodies together.
You might decide you'd like to move your body, or you can close your eyes and imagine your body moving.
Both are really fun. Let's stretch. Can you stretch up high?
Can you touch your toes? Let's run in place!
Running, running, running, running, running.
Let's go faster. Running, running, running, running, running.
How about 10 jumping jacks? We can move or imagine moving our arms and legs all together.
One, two, three, four, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Well done.
Firefighters have to be in excellent physical shape.
They also have to make sure their equipment is in good shape.
Let's check that everything is working well.
It all has to be ready to go at any moment.
Let's imagine lifting open the side compartment on the big fire truck.
Whoa! I see lots of things! What do you imagine you see?
I imagine I see a big hose. Yeah, this must be where the hose is stored when they aren't using it.
It looks like it was put away properly. It's been carefully rolled up, so it would be easy to pull out quickly.
Let's test the hose and make sure it's working.
We'll reach out for the end of the hose and imagine pulling it out away from the truck.
Making it longer and longer. And longer?
Whoa! This is the longest hose I've ever seen!
I think we finally reached the end. The hose on the fire truck has to be really long so it can get to where it needs to be to put out fires.
But before we can test the hose, we have to connect it to a fire hydrant.
Let's connect the hose. Bring the end over to the hydrant.
Connect the hose. Let's attach it. Connect the hose.
Make sure it's secure. Connect the hose.
We did it! The hose is ready to test. Let's see if it works!
Let's spray the water. Hold the end of the hose tightly.
Spray the water. Aim it where you want it to go.
Spray the water. Open it up, spray the water, and whoa!
Here comes the water! I imagine I can see the water burst out of the hose.
It rises up into the sky. and then falls down to the ground, like a big waterfall.
Can you see it in your mind? I imagine the water is coming out of the hose so fast and strong.
This hose is working very well. Now, let's roll it back up.
We'll have to be sure to put it away properly without any tangles.
Wind the hose up, wind the hose up There it's put away back in the truck.
Another important part of a firefighters' equipment is what they wear.
Firefighters wear heavy and bulky clothes that are specially made to protect them from fire.
Let's make sure our firefighter uniform is ready to go.
Getting ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready to go.
Let's step into the overalls. Pull them up and over your shoulders.
Then step into the big boots. Now put on your firefighter jacket and zip it up.
Don't forget your helmets! We need to be protected all over.
We're ready, ready, ready. We're ready, ready, ready.
To save the day. Whoa. All this gear is really, really heavy, isn't it? all the gear that firefighters have to wear and carry weighs around 45 pounds.
That's like carrying over 700 teddy bears.
No wonder firefighters have to be strong.
I imagine I can feel it weighing down on my body.
It's really hard to move, but we can do it.
We can be anything when we're imagining Anything we want to be, imagine with me Oh!
That's the alarm! That means there's an emergency!
Let's get on the fire truck and go! Here comes the fire truck driving down the street Here comes the fire truck beep beep beep Here comes the fire truck Look at it go Here comes the fire truck Wave hello I imagine we're racing down the road, trying to get there as fast as we can.
Uh oh, it looks like there's traffic up ahead.
How will we make it through? That's it. The siren will let the cars know to get out of the way.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh We made it!
Let's assess the situation and see what the emergency is.
Let's... Look around and see what can be found I don't see any emergency.
Oh, but I imagine I hear something. It's coming from way up high above.
It sounds like it's coming from that tall tree.
It sounds like a cat meowing. It's climbed up too high and now it's stuck.
Well, it's a good thing we're here. We can save you, Kitty.
Let's... raise the ladder. Get the ladder ready.
Raise the ladder. Make sure it's sturdy.
Raise the ladder. Let's climb. Raise the ladder.
Whoa! We're really up high now! Can you imagine looking down at the ground?
I imagine it looks really far away. And we still have to go further to reach the cat.
Uh oh. I think I'm feeling a bit nervous.
When I'm feeling big feelings I stop and see How the big feelings are feeling in me Let's try to remember the calm we felt before.
Remember when we took a deep breath and relaxed our bodies and minds.
Let's take a deep breath together and remember that calm feeling.
In one, two, three, hold it Out three, two, one That feels better.
We can do this. Firefighters are brave, and we can be brave too.
Let's imagine taking one step at a time, going higher and higher up the ladder.
Getting closer and closer to the kitty until we can reach out our arms and save the cat.
Now, let's bring her back down safely. Let's go down, down, down, down.
We did it! I imagine we're back down the ladder as we place the cat safely down on the ground.
We saved the day! Great work, firefighters!
I feel very proud of us. We were brave and strong and stayed calm so we could save the day.
Let's get back to the fire truck and head back to the fire station.

Firefighters do really important things.
They sure do. It's hard stuff, too. It's tiring, just imagining it.
