Hello, everyone, and welcome back to our 8 -Minute English Podcast on the Learn English with Jessica channel.
It's me, Nathan. Today, we're diving into a topic that's often talked about in movies, TV shows, and maybe even in your own life.
It's the friend zone.
Before we dive into today's conversation, I'd like to remind you about the PDF document we have prepared for you.
It will help you to follow along with the conversation and understand it better.
Make sure you have it on hand.
The term friend zone got famous from Friends on November 3, 1994.
In Episode 7 of the first season, Joey tells Ross that Rachel likes him, but will never like like him.
Ross is in the friend zone.
So what exactly is the friend zone?
Imagine you have a good friend.
You spend a lot of time together and share laughs and secrets.
But then you start feeling something more than just friendship for them.
You might wonder, do they like me the same way?
Sometimes you find out that they only see you as a friend, nothing more.
This is being in the friend zone.
It means your friend likes you a lot, but they don't have romantic feelings for you.
It's okay to feel a little sad or disappointed when you find out you're in the friend zone.
These feelings are normal, but it's also very important to respect your friend's feelings.
They are not wrong for just wanting to be friends.
Accepting their feelings and keeping the friendship is usually the best thing to do.
Good friends are valuable.
Now, you might be wondering, is it possible to leave the friend zone?
Sometimes feelings can change.
But remember, you can't force someone to have romantic feelings for you.
Being honest with yourself and your friend is very important.
If you feel too sad or uncomfortable because you want more than friendship, it's okay to take a break and have some space.
It's important to take care of your own feelings too.
In life, the friend zone is just one part of many different types of relationships and feelings.
Many people experience it.
It's important to remember that every friendship is unique and valuable.
Whether you're in the friend zone or not.
And remember, the right person for you might be just waiting to meet you.
Keep an open heart, be kind to yourself and others, and good things will happen.
That's our chat about the friend zone.
I hope you found it interesting and helpful.
Stay tuned for our next episode of Everyday English with Nathan where we will explore more exciting topics.

Now I have a discussion question for you and I'll also share my thoughts on them.
How should people deal with feeling sad when they are in the Friend Zone?
I think it's important to understand your feelings, but don't let them make you too sad.
Stay busy with things you like to do.
Remember, life can surprise you and maybe the right person for you is not far away.
How about you? I would love to hear your thoughts on these questions.
Please leave your answers in the comments section below.
Before we wrap up today's episode, let's answer some of the questions from our previous videos.
Comment, I read English and listening, but I can't speak and write.
Thank you for your question.
I understand you're finding it challenging.
Don't worry, this is a common challenge for many language learners.
Here's some advice to help you improve.
Try to speak in English every day.
You can start by describing your daily activities or thoughts in English.
This will help build your confidence.
Start keeping a journal in English.
Write about your day, your thoughts, or anything that interests you.
This will not only improve your writing skills, but also enhance your vocabulary.
There are several language learning apps like Duolingo or Helotok that can be very helpful.
Try reading a book or an article out loud.
It's important to get feedback on your progress.
You can share your writings or speaking recordings with me or with native speakers.
We can then provide you with constructive feedback to help you improve.
I hope this helps. And that's it for today's episode.
Thank you for joining us.
See you again in the next 8 -Minute English Podcast episode.
