It's a bonus edition of the Book Club for Kids.
Hi, I'm Kitty Felde.
Did you know that you can be on the Book Club for Kids podcast?
Even if we can't come to you, you can come to us.
That's what readers in Georgia and Florida did.
And we'll tell you how you can do it, too, at the end of the show.
Find out what those kids are reading in the South.
Hi, my name is Lexi from Decatur, Georgia.
I go to Druid Hills Middle School and I'm in sixth grade.
My favorite book is Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T.J.
Klune.
This is a fantasy novel about two dads and seven children who live in a house, who are magical and have to deal with everyday life and people who don't like them.
I love this book because there's a strong moral of it's okay to be different and not to change who you are.
And the dads constantly enforce it.
Also, it's hilarious.
And I love that component.
Hi, my name is Sienna.
I'm a seventh grader at Druid Hills Middle and my favorite book is Superman Smashes the Clam.
I like this book because it tells a story about racism in the 40s while also managing to fit Superman in perfectly and tying this book in with how Superman helped take down the KKK in real life through the Superman radio show, as shown in the back of the book.
Hi, my name is Avery and I go to Jared Hills Middle School in Decatur, Georgia.
My favorite book is Unwind by Neal Shesterman.
This book is about kids from ages 13 to 18 getting their body parts taken out and donated to those who are quote unquote worthy.
This is my favorite book because the plot keeps me wanting to turn the page.
Another thing that I love is the suspense of the book.
In the story, there are three kids, and they are running from getting unwound.
The part that keeps me turning the pages is the fact that their characters nor.
I know what will happen next.
My name is Hunter.
I am from Weston, Florida.
I am a fifth grader at Indian Trace Elementary in Weston.
My favorite book series is called Percy Jackson.
I especially enjoyed the fifth book, titled The Last Olympian.
I really like how the author develops the main characters Annabeth Chase and Percy Jackson.
I also enjoy the action-packed adventures that they go on, such as rescuing a friend and retrieving magical objects for the gods.
Also, the series explores themes such as friendship, loyalty, and the understanding of identity.
In addition, I am a really big fan of Greek mythology.
In the series, I am always learning about different gods, such as Poseidon and Zeus.
Because of this, it makes the series really fun and intriguing.
Lastly, I like that the series is very suspenseful, with each book leaving the reader on a cliffhanger, making you immediately want to continue to the next book.
This is why I would recommend Percy Jackson to other readers.
Hi, my name is Vera and I'm from Weston.
I'm a fifth grader at Indian Trace Elementary School in Weston.
My favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lurie.
I love The Giver because of its meaning.
The story shows that we don't have to stay confined to how society sees us.
This book relates to me and so many others with its message.
Do not let someone else tell you what to do or how to act.
I would recommend this book to people that love a good plot and plot twists.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster that you don't want to miss.
One minute, the main character is happy and the very next, their emotional state shifts to sad.
The emotion that you feel is amazing.
As I read, I got more emotional and that made me truly understand how the character felt.
This is truly a remarkable book.
We'll have a list of everybody's favorite book in the show notes and at our website on the Books We Love page.
