Why are famous women being targeted by transvestigations?
Thanks for asking!
What do Serena Williams, Beyonce, Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling and Nicole Kidman all have in
common?
Well, apart from being famous, they've all been the targets of transvestigations in recent
times.
As you may have guessed, the term is a combination of transgender and investigation.
It's a bizarre type of conspiracy theory which sees web users attempt to prove that certain
famous people are secretly transgender.
Who's been targeted the most often men?
Well, male celebs aren't totally immune to being transvestigated, but more often than
not, it's women who are targeted.
In the deep dark corners of YouTube and TikTok, there are videos out there with thousands
or even millions of views, in which transvestigators seriously suggest that a female celebrity
is in fact a man.
And to make a case for such a revelation, they pull out all the stops, leaning on pseudo-scientific
gender-based theories and scrutinizing everything from the celebrity's shoulder width to hand
size to jaw shape.
Bernstein is a popular online podcaster who at the time of recording, described himself
as a friendly queer Jew with very long nails on his social profiles.
In December 2023, he posted a TikTok video exposing some of the far-fetched claims that
transvestigators make in social media posts and comments.
It's like a trans apocalypse and they are the only cis people left.
I took a peek into their world.
They're cool Kidman, more like Kidman, Pamela Anderson too.
My whole life has been alive.
A transvestigator is just bored people with no lives.
There's certainly an argument to be made for that, and there's even a temptation to find
amusement in some of the supposed revelations they put out there.
Given how ridiculous they come across to anyone with an ounce of common sense, but it's
important not to overlook the discriminative nature of transvestigations.
After all, they're not just about subjecting celebrities to harassment.
Observers say the very practice is also deeply transphobic.
That's because it operates under the assumption that being transgender is something shameful
or deviant and must be kept hidden from the world.
As investigators have even come up with their own rhetoric and slogans, such as the term
inverted which is used to label celebrities that are said to be secretly transgender.
TeenVog.com and Vice.com both published features on transvestigations in early 2024.
And if you're interested in learning more about the topic, I'd recommend that you check
them out.
