We're going to be learning airport vocabulary and phrases that most likely you will hear and use when you're traveling by plane.
And it's gonna be a very vocabulary pack, so buckle up and get ready.
This will be helpful in general and especially for people who like to travel independently, not using travel agency services.
So first off, you have to book a flight or book a ticket, a flight ticket.
And in this case, book, it's not a noun, it's not a book that we read, It's a verb.
It means to arrange a reservation for a further purchase.
We also can book a hotel room or a trip.
Then when you make a confirmation and pay money, you buy your flight ticket.
You get an itinerary receipt with your e-ticket number.
When you're making your booking, you get to choose.
Either you want to buy a one-way ticket, which means to a one certain destination, or a round trip to the place where you want to go and back.
Also, there is a multi-city trip or a multi-stop flight.
It's an advanced airline ticket which allows you to travel across the world using multiple stops.
A flight can be domestic or international .
In your itinerary receipt, you'll find departure date and time.
It's when you leave one place to go to to fly to another.
Arrival is the time and date of your coming to a place.
Then you'll see the name of your airline.
It's a company that owns aircrafts and provides regular transportation of people and goods by plane.
Aircraft, it's any vehicle that can fly, a plane for example.
Also, we get to choose the class. Usually, airlines have three classes, economy, business, and first class. where the first class is the most expensive one and the most comfortable one. and the economy class is the cheapest and the least comfortable.
Then you have to check in for your flight, meaning that you have to confirm your presence on a flight by showing your ticket at the airport at the check-in desk and to get your boarding pass. or you can do it online, which is a lot of airlines require you to do these days.
A boarding pass. It's a document that allows you to board a plane, meaning to get on a plane.
It identifies you as a passenger, your seat number, your flight number, and the boarding time and the time of departure.
Boarding time is the time at which passengers are invited to air of the plane.
It's also displayed on continually updated departure screens at the airport.
So pay attention to those because it can change due to a delay or it can even be canceled, or your gate can change. gate it's a doorway that opens to a jet bridge which leads to a plane Baggage or luggage, it's your personal stuff that you take with you on a trip. carry-on baggage.
It's baggage that you can take with you on a plane and place it either under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment.
It has to be small enough so that you can take it with you on a plane.
And the criteria varies from the airline to airline, so pay attention to that.
A baggage claim. It's an area at the airport where you can pick up your baggage after a flight. when you arrive.
Customs. It's an official department where customs officers check travelers and their baggage.
