Welcome to Bedtime History.
Hello, this is Breck.
So I have to tell you a funny story.
The other day I was at the store with my son.
He really wanted a new toy.
He just had to have it.
You've been there as a parent.
Then I said, okay, you have your own money.
You can buy it.
He thought about it for a moment and then said, never mind, I guess I don't want it that much.
I had to laugh afterward but I love that the Acorns Early app and debit card teaches my kids to manage their own money.
They can earn money with the in-app chore tracker, practice real-life budgeting with automatic allowances and even set their own savings goals.
One of my children is now an adult and I believe teaching her financial literacy skills as a child made all the difference in how she manages her money now.

Close your eyes and imagine you're walking down a busy street in New York City.
In front of you stands a magnificent building that reaches high into the sky, almost as if it were trying to touch the clouds.
This iconic structure is known as the Empire State Building and is one of the most famous buildings in the world.
Thousands of people visit it every day to marvel at its beauty and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.
But do you know the story of how the Empire State Building came to be?
Let's dive into the fun and fascinating tale of this towering giant.
The story of the Empire State Building begins in the early 1900s.
At that time, New York City was growing rapidly.
More people were moving to the city, and businesses were expanding.
Builders and architects were eager to create stunning skyscrapers that would define the city's skyline.
However, the competition was fierce.
Many talented architects and builders wanted to design the tallest and most impressive building.
It was a race to the top, literally.
In 1920, two of the most important people behind the Empire State Building Project were John Jacob Raskob and Pierre Chateau.
Raskob was a wealthy businessman and had a big vision for the future of New York.
He wanted to create a building that would be not just tall but a symbol of the city's ambition and spirit.
Pierre Chateau was an architect who worked with Raskob to help bring this dream to life.
To make this dream a reality, Raskob needed an architect who could design a building that would stand out among the rest.
That's when he turned to the talented architect William F. Lamb.
Lamb was known for his incredible skills and creative ideas.
He got to work right away, sketching designs that would make people's jaws drop.
After a lot of brainstorming and hard work, Lamb presented his design for the Empire State Building.
It was a skyscraper that would reach 1,454 feet into the sky, including its antenna.
Everyone was amazed by the design.
But before the construction could begin, Raskob and Lamb had to gather the necessary funds to finance this enormous project.
In the 1920s, the world was experiencing an economic boom and they took advantage of this opportunity.
They received money from investors who believed in the ambitious plans.
With financial support.
The construction of the Empire State Building officially started on March 17 1930.
In just a few short years, construction began to rise dramatically.
The builders worked day and night to create the foundation and frame of the building.
They used steel beams, which had become popular for skyscrapers.
These beams were incredibly strong and allowed the building to be taller than ever before.
The workers were climbing high above the streets, welding beams into place and putting each piece together.
It was an impressive sight.
Now, here's the exciting part.
The construction of the Empire State Building went up at lightning speed.
In fact, it was built faster than any other skyscraper in history at the time.
In just 410 days, the building was complete.
With around 3400 workers hammering away, pouring concrete and assembling steel beams, the Empire State Building quickly took shape.
It was like putting together a gigantic puzzle, with each piece fitting perfectly into place.
As the building reached its final height, everyone stopped to admire the work they had done.
Finally, on May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building was officially opened to the public.
What a monumental day that was.
Thousands of people gathered to celebrate.
It was a grand event that marked not only the completion of an amazing skyscraper, but also a symbol of hope during difficult times.
You see, this was during the Great Depression, a time when many people were struggling and finding work was tough.
But the Empire State Building brought joy and inspiration to many New Yorkers.
The building quickly became an important part of New York's identity.
It wasn't just a building.
It represented what humans could achieve when they worked together.
As it opened its doors, it caught the attention of film directors, tourists, and admirers worldwide.
People would visit just to take a ride on one of the building's sleek, shiny elevators to the deck where they could see the entire city spread out before them.
From up there, the streets looked like tiny lines drawn on a giant game board.
Throughout the years, many important people have visited the Empire State Building.
Celebrities, politicians, and world leaders have all admired this architectural marvel.
People often joke that almost everyone in the world has seen the Empire State Building at least once in movies or television shows.
It's appeared in so many films, including the classic King Kong, where a giant ape climbed to the top in search of adventure.
This scene made the Empire State Building even more famous and solidified its status as an American landmark.
After it was completed, the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world for almost 40 years.
That's a long time to hold such a title.
People from all over the world traveled to New York to see it and take photos.
It became a symbol of American pride and ingenuity, showing that dreams could indeed soar high into the sky.
But the Empire State Building wasn't just remarkable for its height.
It also used new technologies.
Do you know that it was one of the first buildings to have air conditioning?
This made it comfortable for the thousands of workers who toiled inside its walls.
The building had a unique feature called a spire, which helped make it taller and was often used for television antennas.
This technology helped improve communication, connecting people through radio and later television from high in the sky.
As the years flew by, the Empire State Building continued to change.
It underwent several renovations to improve its facilities and experience for visitors.
The observation deck was redesigned to make it even more enjoyable for the thousands of tourists who came there every year.
It also received a stunning lighting makeover, allowing it to shine brightly at night.
Different colors can be seen lighting up the tower to celebrate holidays, events and special occasions.
This made the building a magical sight to behold.
If you have a chance to see this building standing tall and proud, remember the incredible journey it took to reach the sky.
Thanks to the hard work, vision and creativity from many people, the Empire State Building is not just a building.
It's a symbol of dreams, perseverance and hope.
So if you do get to visit or even just see a picture of this tower, remember the stories of the dreamers who dared to reach high.
And who knows, maybe it will inspire you to reach for your dreams too, knowing that, like the Empire State Building, anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard to make it happen, whether it's in the world of architecture, design or even your favorite hobby.
Keep dreaming big and you can achieve great heights too.
