Sunday, Sunday. Oh my god, it's been so hot this summer.
How have you been doing?
Are you surviving okay?
I hope you are staying cool.
Cool. Well, that's one of the meanings of today's expression.
Why don't you check it out?
E -cube number 180. Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is, in the shade.
In the shade. Very simple expression.
It just means outside of the sunshine.
So, as you might know, I live in the desert, and the sun is relentless.
constant sun every day always sunny and for me my skin is very pale it's very weak and i'm an old man i need to stay out of the of the shun i need to stay out of the shun i need to stay out of the sun so i wear a hat and the hat gives me shade it keeps my face and my neck and my shoulders out of the sun. If I see a tree, I go under the tree and the tree gives me shade.
It protects me from the direct rays of the sun. And also I wear sunglasses.
Those are called shades, S -H -A -D -E -S.
And those shades protect my eyes from the sun. So when I go outside, I do my best to stay in the shade.
In the shade of a tree.
In the shade of a building.
In the shade of my hat.
And behind my shades, wearing my sunglasses.
Let's check out a dialogue.
Let's move over there.
Under those trees? yeah i prefer the shade yeah the sun is strong today that's right what about you if the sun is shining do you like to be in the sun do you like to soak up the sun's rays when i was young i did love soaking up the sun's rays yeah i enjoyed it Going to the beach, running outside, cycling with just my shorts on.
Oh, it was great. Life was wonderful as a child.
But now that I'm old, I have to be careful of the sun. Gives you wrinkles.
Gives you spots. Dries your skin out.
And can give you cancer.
That's just me. That's just me.
If you're still enjoying the sun, do enjoy.
Get your vitamin D, but be careful.
Don't stay out in the sun too much. Make sure you have some shade around you so that you can protect yourself.
Okay? Now, like I said, tomorrow and the next day, I'll also be using the word shade, S -H -A -D -E, but different meanings so be sure to listen to the next couple of podcasts for sure let's check out the dialogue two more times let's move over there under those trees yeah i prefer the shade yeah the sun is strong today let's move over there under those trees yeah i prefer the shade yeah the sun is strong today thanks so much for listening make sure to check out our web page www .letsmasterenglish .com try a free lesson get our newsletter and if you have a question please or a comment or or maybe some criticism, then please send an email.
