I don't do too many idioms, but I do like this idiom.

Today's expression is not carved in stone.
It's not carved in stone.
It is not, N-O-T, carved, C-A-R-V-E-D, in stone, S-T-O-N-E.
If something is carved in stone, what does that mean?
That means you take stone and then you take a hammer and a chisel, which is like a knife, and you and you make a design in the stone.
So if you watch an American TV show or a movie, if you see a cemetery, a graveyard, you know where dead people are buried.
You'll see these stones with the person's name.
Here lies John Smith, born 1851, died 1912, something like that.
And that guy's name and when he was born and when he died is carved in stone.
Now, if you go back to the Bible and you go all the way back to the tenth, You know Moses went up the mountain.
God carved the Ten Commandments in stone with his hand.
That's the story in the Bible.
Those are God's rules, the Ten Laws.
You must follow those laws.
Those are the laws set by God by his own hand.
You must follow those.
They are rules. carved in stone.
Those laws cannot be changed.
They cannot be ignored.
They were carved in stone.
That's where this expression comes from.
If something is carved in stone, it is absolute.
You must follow it.
You understand?
