Easy English expression rehashed. Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English. Coach Shane here, Reashed, E-Cubed podcast number 195.
I love this expression, and I use it a lot.
Unfortunately. I wish everything were perfect, but you know what?
Not everything is perfect. Enjoy! Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is, my is not up to task.
My cooking is not up to task. My cycling is not up to task.
Such a great expression. Let's look at my first example.
My cooking is not up to task. So my mother asked me to make her a chocolate cake.
And I have a favorite recipe and my friend uses the recipe.
And when my friend makes the cake, it's perfect.
But whenever I use the same recipe, I don't know what happens, but... my cake is terrible.
It's too soft. It's too dry. It's burnt it's not sweet enough it's not even my baking skills are terrible My baking is not up to task.
My cooking skills are not up to task. What does this mean?
My cooking ability is terrible. My baking skill sucks.
I'm a terrible cook. I'm a terrible baker.
That's what it means. I'm not good enough.
If something is not up to task, it means you are not good enough.
You need more training. You need more practice.
You need more instruction. You need more coaching.
Now, where I live in the desert, lots of people have mountain bikes.
And in the mountains, there are many trails where guys are riding their bike.
So I decided about two weeks ago that I would try and ride on a mountain trail.
After about 200 meters, I realized my cycling is not up to task.
Now I'm really good on a bicycle, on the asphalt, on the cement, on a regular road.
I'm an excellent cyclist. But riding a bike on a mountain trail is completely different.
And I realized my mountain biking skills were not up to task.
Does that make sense? Let's check out a dialogue.
Jacques, I want you to translate this into French.
What? But my French is not up to task. What?
You're French. Ew. I mean, my English is not up to task.
Ah, Jacques. Yes. Jacques. Jack. In America, we just say Jack.
He's a great guy. Seriously, I know Jack.
Jacques. He is a great guy and his English is excellent.
But I remember a long time ago, I asked my friend.
Jacques to translate something into French.
And he told me, but my French is not good enough.
His French is perfect. He's French. He made a mistake.
He wanted to say, my English is not good enough.
I love Jacques. I don't think Jacques is listening to this podcast.
But if you are... Your English, trust me, Jacques, your English is up to task.
What about you? What about your English ability, your language ability, your translating ability?
Is it up to task? Are you highly skilled?
Do you have the ability to translate into English?
It's not easy. Into your language? Might be a little bit easier, but yeah, it's tough.
This is a great expression. If you think there is something that you are not up to task in leave a message and share it with everybody.
That's it. Enjoy the conversations. Have a fantastic day.
And together, let's master English. Jacques, I want you to translate this into French.
