Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, how's it going?
Coach Shane here.
We have an excellent expression today, especially if you like to bother somebody, or if there's someone maybe your wife or your husband Who's always bothering you.
EQ number 235.
Check it out.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression, it's a good one.
Especially on my birthday.
Please do not hound me.
To hound somebody.
H-O-U-N-D.
Hound.
Now hound is used as a verb.
But there's a noun.
Hound.
H-O-U-N-D.
And when we think of a hound...
Do you know Sherlock Holmes?
He's a very famous detective in the UK.
And Sherlock Holmes has a dog called a hound.
Specifically a bloodhound.
B-L-O-O-D-H-O-U-N-D.
Well, the dog, hound, the hound dog, is very good with its nose.
And...
It can find anything.
It can follow anybody.
So to hound somebody is not only to follow that person, it actually means to bother the person.
And it comes from the dog.
The expression comes from the dog's ability to smell and find people.
So don't hound me means don't bother me.
Stop nagging me.
I don't know.
Maybe I'm wrong.
I could be wrong.
What about little girls?
Do little girls need to be hounded?
I don't know.
I have no idea.
I've never dealt with a little girl.
I was a little boy.
I know that my mom and dad needed to hound me every day.
This is similar to nag, N-A-G.
But now, it's my birthday.
I'm 47 years old.
And my mother still hounds me.
Shane, it's the end of the month.
Did you pay your rent?
Shane, it's the trash day.
Did you take out the trash?
Shane, dinner's at 7.
Make sure you're here before 7.
Mom, stop.
I don't need to be hounded anymore.
No, actually, I do.
And whenever my mom hounds me I complain, but actually secretly inside I'm thinking oh, thank you Mom.
Thank you, Mom.
Yeah, to hound somebody.
Sometimes it's okay, but sometimes it's not okay.
Is there somebody who hounds you?
Tell us who hounds you.
Or maybe you are hounding somebody.
Who are you hounding?
Let's check that dialogue out two more times.
Practice with somebody.
Did you take a shower?
Yes dad.
Did you use soap?
Yes dad.
Did you brush your teeth?
Yes quit hounding me.
