Oh, I love today's expression.
You meet somebody, somebody new, and how does your relationship go?
Well, here's a phrasal verb that you can use to inquire about that.
Enjoy it.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is great.
It is to hit it off.
Oh yeah.
To hit it off.
You need all three words.
Hit it off.
To hit off?
No.
Hit it off.
Must have all three words.
We hit it off.
They hit it off.
I think you would hit it off.
What does this excellent expression mean?
It means to get along very well, to become close friends, to naturally become friends right away.
So what about you?
Does your personality appeal to other people?
Do people meet you and they just like you?
Do you hit it off with other people?
Or do you not really like people?
Are you more cautious?
Do people meet you and feel distant?
Everybody has their own way.
I don't think there's one right way or another way.
I know when I was young, I liked everybody.
It was easy for me to like everybody.
But not everybody liked me.
So I guess I could say I didn't hit it off with lots of people.
But with some people, I really did hit it off.
I was great friends from the beginning.
Let's check out a dialogue.
You and Dean hit it off?
Yeah, he's a great guy.
We're gonna go fishing.
He's gay.
Oh.
Uh, you don't think he thinks I was hitting on him, do you?
Oh, boy.
That's scary.
So you and Dean, some guy and Dean, D-E-A-N.
That's a guy's name.
You and Dean hit it off.
Wow, you guys became close friends right away.
You and Dean really became close friends right away.
He's a great guy.
We're going to go fishing.
There you go.
That's a good guy thing.
Fishing, hunting, watching football.
Good guy things.
But then the woman says, he's gay.
Wow.
Yeah, that would change the situation.
If you're a single guy and you meet another guy and you like him and you're going to go fishing, that's not a date, right.
That's just going fishing.
It's a guy thing.
But then if the guy is gay and you didn't know he was gay and you're going to go fishing, that's really weird.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, like I say, you know, personally, I'm not gay, but you can go fishing with a gay guy.
Now, if there are gay guys listening to this, don't go attack me.
And if there are people out there who hate gay people, I'll just leave it alone.
OK, they're not bothering you.
I mean, in this community.
OK, so anyway, hit it off.
You can hit it off with anybody or with nobody.
What about you?
For me, I'll tell you this much.
Nowadays, I'm much older, much more stubborn.
I don't hit it off with anybody because I don't go anywhere.
But yesterday, I did go fishing.
There was a guy and his son out there and I started a conversation.
After two minutes, it was like we were friends.
We hit it off.
So fishing is a good connection for hitting it off.
I guess, yeah, your hobbies, your sports, that's a good area to meet somebody.
And if you both like the same thing, the chances of hitting it off are going to be really good.
So if you're a single guy, a single woman looking for a girlfriend or a boyfriend, then why not find that person in an area where you're interested in your hobbies?
If you like sports, maybe go to a game and find somebody, start talking to that person and maybe you'll hit it off.
That might be a great place to meet somebody.
