Easy English expression, rehashed. Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English. It's Friday.
TGIF. Thank God it's Friday. Coach Shane here.
It's Friday. We can relax. Many of us will relax.
We might go out, have a good time, enjoy the weekend.
But one thing we do not want to do is today's expression.
So check it out. Let's go back in time. Today's expression, oh, it is a phrasal verb.
It's great. It's fun. It is to flake out.
F-L-A-K-E-O-U-T. To flake out. Okay, let's look at the word flake, F-L-A-K-E.
Now, if you say flake to an American, many Americans will think of a snowflake.
Ah, yes, snow. So beautiful. One piece of snow falling to the earth is a snowflake.
I know that many of you have never actually seen a snowflake.
So I hope that you get the chance to see one soon.
Actually, if you see a perfect snowflake, they're truly beautiful.
They're very, very pretty. And they say that no two snowflakes. are alike.
They say they're all different. That may be.
But anyway, a flake. So that's the idea of a flake.
Okay? Now, can you imagine a snowflake actually falling to the earth?
Do you think it's like rain, like a drop of rain?
Now, when rain falls to the earth, it goes like in a straight line.
It just goes straight down, right? But what about a snowflake?
Does a snowflake also come straight down?
No, no, it doesn't. Can you imagine a feather falling to the ground?
It goes... right, left, right, left, and then it goes down, right?
The same thing with a snowflake. It goes, especially a big, pretty snowflake.
And when we say the phrasal verb to flake out, that is the image you need.
If you say to your brother, you are flaking out.
Ladies, if you say to your husband, stop flaking out.
It means your husband or whoever is going to do this and then going to do that, and there's no problem. plan.
There's no chaos. It's crazy. He's talking about this and then he's doing that and then he's going over here and then he's going over there and then he wants to do this and then he wants to do that and you're going crazy.
Stop it. Stop it. Stop flaking out. Yeah.
It happens. Now, you've heard me. This is our 208th podcast.
So you've heard me over 200 times, six months.
What do you think? Do you think I flake out?
Well, while you think about that, let's check out a dialogue.
Where's Jim? He flaked out again. What? We need him.
He always does this. He's unreliable. Oh, boy.
Where is Jim? He flaked out. Yeah. This is a typical thing that a person who is flaky –
It's what they do. They say they're going to do this.
They say they're going to do that. But in the end, they don't do it.
They forget or they were busy doing something else.
It's very irresponsible. And somebody who flakes out all the time is actually very irresponsible.
Now, sometimes we all flake out. Sometimes we're all flaky, F-L-A-K-E-Y.
But there are people who always flake out.
There are people who are always flaky. Me?
Not at all. I'm a rock. I'm a raindrop. I think my mom would disagree.
I think my dad might disagree too. Yeah.
My cats? No. My cats, they know. They know I'm a rock.
I'm a raindrop. I don't know. I think I'm okay.
I'm pretty good with you guys, right? I bring the podcast every day.
I know, yeah. I might need a little bit of discipline.
I try to be as responsible. I need to work on it.
No more flaking out for me. Yeah. that's it check out the dialogue two more times where's jim he flaked out again what We need him.
He always does this. He's unreliable. Where's Jim?
He flaked out again. What? We need him.
He always does this. He's unreliable. Thanks so much for listening.
