School.com slash LME.
S-K-O-O-L dot L. Oops.
Dot com slash L-M-E.
I'm an English teacher.
I can't even speak English.
We have a great expression, number 275, enjoy.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is to crack open something, especially a door or a window.
Crack open the door.
Crack open – to crack open a window.
So, for example, let's say it's the wintertime and you're in the living room, or maybe in your bedroom, and it feels cold.
It feels really cold, like there's a cold breeze breeze, a cold wind coming in and you say hey mom, why is it so cold in here?
And your mom says, oh, I cracked open a window.
Or the doors open A crack.
Yes, we can use it as a noun.
A crack.
Just a little bit to crack open.
Just a little bit.
Open the door.
Open the window.
Just a little bit.
Just a crack.
Not a huge opening, not even an inch maybe, maybe an inch, probably a centimeter, just a little bit.
Crack open the window.
Crack open the door.
It's a useful expression, especially in the case of the dialogue.
Check it out.
Ah, who's smoking in there?
Me.
Crack open the window, dirty man.
Sorry.
Yes.
Have you ever been in a house, in a building, in a closed area, in a car with somebody who smokes?
Well, if you don't smoke especially oh, it's horrible even if you smoke, if you're not smoking and somebody else is smoking, like in a car, it's terrible.
Yeah, i know, i used to smoke.
I don't smoke anymore.
It's been gosh, almost six months, isn't that great.
So if somebody's smoking in the car hey hey hey, crack open the window.
Crack open the window.
Very useful expression.
Sometimes you might feel a little too hot.
The heater is on very strong.
Somebody's sick.
They want the heat on.
And you need to crack open the window.
You need some cool air inside.
Or maybe you're cleaning something with some powerful cleaning soaps, maybe some bleach, something that smells a lot.
Well, you need to crack open a window, maybe even crack open a door, so that fresh air can come in and the bad air can come out.
Perhaps when your dad goes to the bathroom, maybe he cracks open the door.
That's not nice.
Dad?
Keep the door closed.
Do not crack open the bathroom door.
But you can crack open the bathroom window.
Sorry.
Yeah.
All right.
I got some patrons.
I need to thank them.
But let's listen to the dialogue two more times.
Ah, who's smoking in there? dirty man.
Sorry.
Ah, who's smoking in there?
Me.
Crack open the window, dirty man.
Sorry.
Thanks so much for listening.
