Yesterday we studied the expression, that figures.
Today we have the expression, go figure.
Do you remember yesterday that figures means?
That makes sense.
That's logical.
Well, today when we learn go figure, it's going to mean really.
That's surprising.
Wow, I'm surprised.
That's amazing.
This is the idea.
It's a very useful expression, but the intonation is important.
Go figure.
Really?
Wow.
So let me give you a couple examples.
Coach Shane has a very nice voice.
By listening to his voice, probably you would guess that I'm 25, 26 years old.
But no, actually, I'm 72.
No, go figure.
Really?
Wow.
That's so surprising.
Actually, I'm not 72.
But when I'm 72, I hope my voice is good.
Yeah.
Well, the truth is, if you look at my picture, I'm sure it's easy to see that obviously my age must be around 32 or 33 years.
But no, actually my age is 47.
Go figure.
No.
Really?
Go figure.
I'm so surprised.
Okay, those are stupid examples.
But what's important is the tone.
How you say it.
Does that make sense?
Go figure.
Really?
Let's check out a dialogue.
So you don't like carrots, but you like carrot cake.
Yep.
And you love tomato soup, but you hate tomatoes.
Yeah.
Huh.
Go figure.
That used to be me.
Raw tomatoes.
Oh, I hated raw tomatoes.
But ketchup.
Tomatoes in spaghetti sauce.
Oh, I loved it.
Carrots.
Oh, I hated carrots.
But I love carrot cake.
Oh, yeah.
That used to be me now.
No problem.
Tomatoes.
Carrots, I'll eat everything.
Cooked, raw, in cake, out of cake, it doesn't matter.
I'll eat anything.
But yeah, it's true.
What about you?
Is there something strange in your eating habits?
For example, you like cucumbers, but you hate pickles.
It's the same thing, but still you completely hate it.
Go figure.
Really?
That's strange.
That's odd.
What other examples can you give when you might want to say, go figure.
Really?
That's amazing.
That's strange.
Can you give us some interesting, some amazing, some very surprising facts?
Then when we hear those facts, we can say, huh.
Go figure.
It's a great expression and I hope you understand it.
You need to make your own examples though.
Okay?
