Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is very good.
To have no say.
To have no say.
What?
To have H-A-V-E no N-O say.
S-A-Y.
What does this mean?
Well, let me ask you a question.
Let's say there's an English expression that you want to learn.
Can you ask me?
Can you tell me?
Tomorrow, Shane, teach me this expression.
Well, my response is, you have no say.
You have no say in what I do tomorrow for the podcast.
For the EQ video, you do have say.
But for the podcast, you have no say.
Sorry.
So what does that mean?
You have no say?
That means you have no influence.
No matter what you say, I will not listen to you.
You will not influence my decision.
That's the idea.
So you have no say.
Is that a nice expression?
Well...
Not really.
But it's true.
I mean, think about it.
When you go to school, do you have any say in what you want to study?
No.
The teachers decide.
Now, when you go to the university, you can choose your classes.
So you have say in what you want to study, but in the class, you have no say.
The professor decides, right?
Let's check out a dialogue.
I'm going to major in philosophy.
What?
Did you ask your parents?
They have no say.
Aren't they paying for your education?
Yeah, so?
Oh, boy, yeah.
Do you remember?
It's been a long time since I went to college.
Now, when I went to the university, I paid for my education.
So what I studied was my decision.
My mom and dad, they did not pay for anything.
It was my decision.
But most kids, most kids are lucky and their parents help them out for college.
So boy, if your parents are paying for your education, should they have say in what you are studying.
Should they be able to decide what you study?
Should they be able to influence you in what you study?
It's a good question.
I'll tell you this.
If I were paying for my child's education...
Absolutely, I would say what the child is studying.
Absolutely.
It's my money.
You study what I say you should study.
I would have complete say in what my child studies, in where my child studies and where my everything.
If I'm paying for it, I have complete say.
Do you agree or disagree?
So, you know, these podcasts...
They're completely free.
Because they're free, you have no say.
Actually, I already have all of my podcasts written.
That's why you have no say.
But when it comes to my videos, oh yes, we have eCubed Easy English Expression videos on YouTube.
So if there's an expression that you want to learn...
Well then you're going to have to leave me a message, because you do have some say in what we study in the videos.
That's today's expression.
Thank you once again so much for listening to this podcast.
Please tell your friends.
Have a fantastic weekend.
I'm going to major in philosophy.
