Easy english expression rehashed.
Hello everybody.
My name is coach shane and welcome to easy english expressions.
Come on, let's master english.
Hello everybody.
Coach Shane here.
Oh, I love today's expression.
EQ'd is so much fun.
It's really great.
I really enjoy it.
I hope you are learning a lot.
Once again, join my community.
It's the weekend.
I know you have some time, I think.
Perhaps.
Perhaps you have some time.
I don't know.
But if you do, and if English is important, get in our community, all right?
It's school.com slash LME.
That's S-K-O-O-L dot com slash L-M-E.
E-Cube number 383.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is a good one.
It is, I can't shake something.
I can't shake a feeling.
Now, it could be this feeling of guilt.
You feel guilty.
Or this feeling of worry.
You're worried about something.
Nothing in particular, but you just feel worried.
And there's no reason, but for some reason, you continue to feel worried.
In this case, you can say, I can't shake this feeling.
I can't shake this feeling of something bad is going to happen.
It happens.
Oh, yes.
You know, sometimes, I don't know, you go to the airport and I hate flying.
I do not like flying.
So every time I get on an airplane for some silly reason, I feel like something bad is going to happen.
And I can't shake that feeling.
I can't get rid of that feeling.
No matter how much I shake my body, the feeling stays with me.
Why do we use this shake expression?
Well, the perfect image is a dog.
Do you have a dog, a pet dog?
Have you ever seen a dog, especially a bigger dog, a dog with longer hair or longer fur?
Well, if you ever see a big dog with long fur get wet, get really wet, like going to the swimming pool or going to a river or a lake, and then come out of the water, what does the dog do?
It shakes the water off.
And he's dry.
He gets rid of the wetness.
He gets rid of the water by shaking it.
Sometimes if you have a bad feeling, you need to shake it off.
But not just those feelings of worry, those feelings of guilt.
Check out the dialogue.
Are you still not feeling well?
I can't shake this cold.
How long have you had it?
Over a week now.
Perfect example.
You can't shake a cold.
Yes, you've got the sniffles.
You're sneezing, maybe a little bit of a cough.
You've got body aches.
You don't feel good.
You're taking vitamin C. You're eating well.
You're resting well.
You're taking medicine, but you can't shake the cold.
You can't get rid of the cold.
Oh yeah, it's not a good thing.
Stay healthy, everybody.
And do your best to always eat well, drink lots of water, wash your hands.
Stay healthy.
I don't want you guys catching a cold, ever.
But of course you will.
So will I. Yeah, that's life.
I can't shake something.
It's a great expression.
We use it especially when we want to get rid of something, like a bad feeling or a cold.
Practice the dialogue with a friend a couple more times, and together, let's master English.
Are you still not feeling well?
Ugh.
I can't shake this cold.
How long have you had it?
Over a week now.
Are you still not feeling well?
I can't shake this cold.
How long have you had it?
Over a week now.
Thanks so much for listening.
