Hello everybody, how you doing?
Coach Shane here, back with another E-Cubed Expression, number 329.
This is a fun expression.
Enjoy it.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression, ooh, it's a good one.
It is on the sly.
On the sly.
O-N, on the sly.
S-L-Y.
On the sly.
He is doing it on the sly.
What are you doing?
On the sly.
So what do you think?
Do you think on the sly is something good or something bad?
Yeah, usually it's something bad.
On the sly means secretly, secretly.
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
So how about you?
When you were a teenager, did you ever smoke a cigarette?
Did your mom and dad allow you?
Or did you smoke on the sly?
With your friends.
At a party.
On Friday nights.
When nobody was there.
And then before you went home, you chewed some gum.
You washed your face.
You went home and you took a shower.
But somehow, if your parents didn't smoke, they knew you smoked.
Because smoking smells so terrible.
Yeah.
When I was young, I must admit, I did smoke. sometimes smoke on the sly.
And my mom and dad never knew because they smoked too.
On the sly.
Oh, be careful.
Is somebody doing something on the sly?
And if you knew, would you be angry?
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
Check out the dialogue.
Hmm, your weight is the same.
Ah, I know, doctor.
I can't lose weight.
Have you been eating sweets on the sly?
Uh, well, no.
There you go.
Eating sweets on the sly.
Donuts, cookies, ice cream, brownies, cake, pie, candy bars, chocolate, mints, delicious candies.
Ooh, those high-calorie coffees like caramel macchiato.
Some type of frappuccino.
Oh, yes.
Oh, yes.
Be careful.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All those sweets that you eat secretly on the sly, they're going to make you fat.
They're going to make you unhealthy.
Be careful.
So be honest.
Think about it.
Think about it.
What are you doing on the sly?
It might be doing something good.
For example, right now you are studying English.
Do your coworkers know that you're studying English?
Are you studying English on the sly?
Don't be shy.
Please tell your coworkers.
Tell them to study English with me.
On the sly, it's a great word.
Usually it has a very negative feeling, negative nuance, negatively used.
But sometimes it's not so bad.
If you're married, do not, or if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, do not meet anyone on the sly.
Otherwise, I'll be after you.
Uh-huh.
With a gun.
That's it, everybody.
Have a fantastic day.
And together, let's master English.
