We got so much stuff in the community.
Go join it.
All right, today's expression number 229.
Let's go.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is gone wild.
Oh, my God.
The children today, they've gone wild.
Nowadays in America with the Christmas shopping, it is shopping gone wild.
Today in my kitchen, I was making Christmas cookies.
It was Christmas cookie baking gone wild.
Something, something.
Usually a noun.
Gone.
G-O-N-E.
Wild.
W-I-L-D.
Shopping gone wild.
Baking gone wild.
Are those nouns?
They're gerunds.
Sorry.
Use a gerund.
It's a great expression.
And what it means is chaos or uncontrolled excitement.
Unbelievable excitement.
So in my kitchen today, I was making Christmas cookies.
It was so messy.
I had flour and sugar and eggs and butter, colored sugars and cinnamon dots and flour frostings and oh my goodness, it was chaos, but it was a fantastic wonderful, delicious chaos in my kitchen.
Now my kitchen is clean, but earlier today oh, it was baking gone wild.
Christmas cookie baking gone wild.
Have you heard about?
In America we have what we call Black Friday.
Yeah, that was like a couple weeks ago, the Friday after Thanksgiving.
That's when many stores in America have unbelievable sales and just thousands of people go to the stores and they're pushing, and they're shoving and they're screaming and they're fighting.
We can say shopping gone wild.
It's chaos, right?
Now, sometimes, actually many times, if something has gone wild, it's not good.
But not always.
Sometimes it can be good.
Let's check out a dialogue.
You can't have that soda can in the park.
It's against the law.
Okay.
And you can't eat in the park.
Okay.
What is this?
Laws gone wild.
I want to have a picnic in the park.
This happens.
Laws gone wild.
L-A-W-S.
Laws.
You can do this.
You can't do that.
Usually laws say you can't do that.
You can't do that.
You can't do that.
You can't do that.
If there are too many laws that that forced you to not be able to do anything, we can say laws gone wild.
And yes, there are parks.
There are lakes.
Today, I saw a very pretty pond.
It was a very nice pond.
And around the pond, P-O-N-D, it's like a small lake.
Around the pond, they said, no walking, no swimming, no fishing, no wading, nothing.
Nothing.
The only thing you can do is look at it.
What the heck is that?
That's a waste of water.
I don't want the water if I can't.
I can't do anything in the water.
Laws gone wild.
Too many damn laws.
And it's funny.
In this case, it's the opposite of chaos.
But the idea, there are too many laws.
It's uncontrollable.
We are completely restricted.
It happens.
It happens.
What about in your country?
How are the laws?
Are they okay?
Do you have more laws than before?
What about the weather?
Yeah.
Have you heard about the weather in the United States?
For many states, it's been really cold.
They've had tons of snow.
They could say, oh, weather gone wild.
The weather has gone wild.
It's so cold.
It's so snowy.
Is that because of global warming?
Seems like global warming should make it warm, not cold.
But hey, I'm not a scientist.
I don't know anything.
So once again, especially a gerund gone wild, but we can say a noun too.
Laws gone wild is possible too.
Something is crazy.
Something is insane.
Something is chaotic.
It's chaos.
It's uncontrollable.
Usually, if something has gone wild, it's negative, but sometimes it can be positive.
Let's check out that dialogue two more times.
You can't have that soda can in the park.
It's against the law.
Okay.
And you can't eat in the park.
Okay.
What is this?
Law's gone wild.
I want to have a picnic in the park.
You can't have that soda can in the park.
It's against the law.
Okay.
And you can't eat in the park.
What is this?
Law's gone wild.
I want to have a picnic in the park.
Thanks so much for listening.
