Easy English expression rehashed. Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English. Everybody, how you doing today?
Coach Shane here. We've got such a good expression today.
And as soon as you hear the expression, you might think it's about politics but it's not it's absolutely not about politics so don't get turned off Or turned on.
By one of the words in the expression, it's great...
Let's go for it. Let's go back in time. Today's lesson, it's better than all the other Actually, that's what today's expression means.
A trumps B. Today's expression trumps yesterday's expression.
My mother's spaghetti trumps mine. My spaghetti.
My mom's spaghetti trumps Coach Shane's spaghetti.
It's true. It's true. What does it mean if a trumps?
B. Any idea? A. is much better. A is much more important.
A is so much more important. Then be. So what about you?
You're studying English, right? Which do you think is more important, grammar or language? pronunciation.
You have a choice, A or B. No C, no D. It's just two choices, grammar or pronunciation.
Which is more important. If you want to communicate with foreigners... native English speakers, British people, American people, German people, Japanese people, Brazilians.
However, if you want to talk with somebody else in English, which do you think is more important, grammar or pronunciation?
I'll give you two seconds to answer. One.
Two. The answer, absolutely, pronunciation trumps grammar.
It's true. I'm sorry. Yes, I know grammar is beautiful, grammar is important, but...
If I cannot understand what you are saying.
It doesn't matter if your grammar is perfect.
Pronunciation trumps grammar. That's my opinion.
And after 25 years of teaching English. After going around the world, listening to people, I think I'm right.
Pronunciation trumps grammar. Check out the dialogue.
Oh, I need to study. Be quiet. Uh, the living room is not a good place to study.
Says who? Environment trumps willpower.
Go to the library. Environment trumps willpower.
Environment is more important than willpower.
Wow, yesterday we were talking about willpower.
And today we learned that perhaps something is more powerful than willpower.
That is environment. Is that true? Well, think about it.
If you're studying, which is a better place to study?
The living room or the library? I think we can all agree that the library is a better place to study.
But which is more important? The willpower to study or the environment in which you study?
If you have excellent willpower, can you study in your living room? just as effectively as studying at the library?
You know what? I think this is true. I think environment trumps willpower.
So you're studying with me daily, right?
Are you listening to my podcasts every day?
I'm guessing. maybe Monday through Friday or maybe, I don't know, Sunday through Thursday, something like that.
Where do you listen to me? Do you listen to me at the same time every day?
Do you listen to me in the same place? You know what?
I bet if you make a habit of listening to this podcast the same time every day... in the same place, maybe on the bus or on the subway, waiting for the bus, if you have the same environment every day,
It might actually really help you master English.
In this case, we can say environment trumps willpower.
What do you think? I'm curious. If you have an opinion, let me know.
I'll tell you how to contact me after you listen to the dialogue two more times.
Oh, I need to study. Be quiet. Uh, the living room is not a good place to study.
Says who? Environment trumps willpower.
Go to the library. Oh, I need to study.
