Today's expression, to be on the rocks.
Okay, now we're learning this expression because yesterday we studied smooth sailing.
And what does smooth sailing mean?
mean? If everything is smooth sailing, if work is smooth sailing, if your life is smooth sailing, then everything is great.
It's wonderful. It's nice.
It's relaxing. It's beautiful.
But if things are on the rocks, oh boy, that means the opposite.
Everything is terrible.
It's not good. There are many problems. And once again, this expression is related to sailing.
Can you imagine having a boat and sailing in the ocean?
Da -da -da -da -da, everything is nice.
And then suddenly you hear the bottom of your boat hitting rocks.
Oh my God, that's terrible.
That could be a disaster.
Your boat could sink.
Oh, yes. If something is on the rocks, it's in bad shape.
Let's check out a dialogue.
I haven't seen Sue lately.
We're on the rocks.
