Easy English expression rehashed.
Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
TGIF, thank god, it's Friday.
If you're listening to this podcast on the publication date, it is the day after spring starts.
It is Friday the 21st of March. 25.
how are you doing? I'm doing good.
I'm not going to do a podcast on Saturday and Sunday.
We'll be back on Monday.
Monday, of course, we have the Let's Master English podcast. It's a big one.
So, are you listening to the regular Let's -Mats?
It's so great. I'm getting so much positive feedback from you guys.
Thank you so much. So, that's coming up on Monday.
But today, super expression.
Very common. and I want you to pay attention to the pronunciation.
Okay? All right. Enjoy it.
Let's go back in time.
Today's expression is really useful.
I don't know about you, but sometimes when I go to a restaurant...
Well, McDonald's is a restaurant, right?
And I walk into McDonald's and I'm thinking to myself, I'm going to order a Big Mac, a Coke, and French fries.
And then I get up to the counter and I say, Uh, yeah.
I'll have two hamburgers, a small French fries and a Coke, please.
What happened? You know, I was going to order a Big Mac.
But then I get two hamburgers.
What happened? and well, it always happens to me, I change my mind.
I like coffee and every morning I go to the coffee store.
But these days I'm thinking, maybe I should switch from coffee to tea.
So as I'm walking to the coffee shop, I'm saying to myself, yes, I'm going to order tea.
I'm going to order tea.
I'm going to order tea.
and then when I get to the counter the guy says what would you like and I say uh yeah I'll have a caramel macchiato.
Please. I changed my mind.
I changed my mind and that is today's expression.
I change C -H -A -N -G -E my mind.
Now what's interesting is when we say it in the past tense, I changed my mind.
If we say it really fast, you don't hear the D in changed.
So perfect pronunciation would be, I changed my mind, and I'll say it quickly with perfect pronunciation.
I changed my mind. I changed my mind.
However, most Americans, most of the time, this is what we say.
Now this is past tense, but listen carefully.
I changed my mind. I changed my mind.
I changed my mind. You do not hear the D, and there's a reason.
And I talk about those reasons in my DDM class, but I'll give you the answer.
The reasons because of the J and the M, the G and the M.
They cancel out the d so anyway today's expression, I changed My mind.
Let's check out a dialogue I'm ready to go to the movies.
Let's go I changed my mind.
What I want to stay home No, we always do what you want to do this time.
We're doing what I want to do get ready now.
Oh Boyfriends, husbands be careful!
I think in a relationship it's illegal for men to change their minds.
However, for women in a relationship, it is perfectly acceptable for the woman to change her mind.
Why is that? How come women can change their minds whenever they want and men are not supposed to?
What's the deal? Now, what do you, give me your opinion.
Is that true, or am I wrong?
You can leave me a message on Twitter, at Coach Shane, Facebook, ESL Coach Shane, and on our Google Plus community.
