Easy English Expression, rehashed.
Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane, and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English!
TGIF, thank God it's Friday.
Oh, today's really cool because our podcast, as you know, the original podcast was 10 years ago, but 10 years ago when I made this podcast, it was Friday the 13th.
And today is also Friday the 13th, 2024.
This is so cool. I hope you enjoy today's rehash.
Let's go back in time.
Now, everybody, you need to know today's date is Friday the 13th.
2014. And in 2014 on this date, it's actually the second day of the 2014 World Cup.
So yesterday and today on my YouTube channel, Daily Easy English, I did teach a couple of World Cup related expressions.
So if you're interested, please check out that channel.
Once again, Daily Easy English.
Now, in this podcast, today's expression is a useful one to be a pain in the neck.
That guy is a pain in the neck.
Oh, editing videos is a pain in the neck.
To be a pain, P -A -I -N, in the neck and E -C -K.
That's your neck. Okay, so a pain in the neck.
Is that a good thing?
My neck hurts. No, a pain in the neck is not a good thing.
It is uncomfortable.
It hurts. Nobody likes it.
So if something is a pain in the neck or if someone is a pain in the neck, that means that person is causing you problems.
You don't like that person or that thing or it's just difficult.
It's not easy. So for me, editing videos can be a pain in the neck.
Some videos are very difficult to edit.
Editing this podcast, well, now it's easy.
I have a good system, but in the beginning, it was really difficult to edit this podcast, to make the audio sound good.
I used to work at a language school.
Oh my goodness. My boss was a pain in the neck.
He was terrible. He was always bothering me.
I'm glad I don't work for him anymore.
Can you think of something right now that is a pain in the neck?
I'll check out the dialogue.
Oh, this traffic is such a pain in the neck.
Well, it's Friday night.
It's always bad. Next time let's take the subway or bus.
But standing on the bus is such a pain in the neck too.
Oh boy. Yeah, some cities, the traffic is bad.
Friday night traffic can be really bad.
So traffic is a pain in the neck.
Then there's public transportation.
Very nice, very convenient, not too expensive, the subway or the bus.
But if you're on the bus and you have to stand for a long time, oh yeah, standing on the bus can be a pain in the neck.
Once again, give me an example of something that is a pain in the neck to you.
What bothers you? What's difficult?
Who is a difficult person?

Go there, say hi. Say hi, Shane.
By the way, you are a pain in the neck.
If you say that, I might cry.
But at the same time, I'll be happy because you used the expression properly.
Let's listen again.
Oh, this traffic is such a pain in the neck.
