Rehashed! Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions!

How you doing, Coach Shane here.
Let's see, I'm counting, I'm counting, I'm counting.
Uh, this is number 10.
Easy English Expression.
Daily, number 10. Great expression today.
I'm counting on you to listen to this podcast and then to use the expression.
Can you do that? Let's go back in time!
Today's expression is, I'm counting on you.
I'm counting on you.
C -O -U -N -T. Now, the verb to count usually means counting numbers.
One, two, three, four, five.
Can you count in English?
I'm sure you can. Well, I'm counting on you.
If we add the preposition on, it becomes a phrasal verb and it means to rely on somebody.
To rely on somebody.
To trust and believe that somebody will do something for you.
Will help you. So, if I am counting on you, then I believe that you will help me.
That you will do something for me.
Do you understand? So, in America, tomorrow is Mother's Day.
Yes, and my sister is counting on me to make my mother a very special banana bread.
Yep, I'll be baking today for my mother and it's from me and my sister.
So, my sister is counting on me to make delicious bread and give it to my mother for Mother's Day.
Oh boy, I hope it tastes good.
If it doesn't taste good, I have a problem because I don't know any bakeries that sell banana bread.
So, to count on someone is a very common expression.
Let's check out a dialogue.
Will you help me move this Sunday?
Sure. I'm not sure.
But did you hear what the favor was?
Will you help me move this Sunday?
Oh man, helping somebody move from one house to another?
That's really difficult stuff.
Heavy furniture, lots of boxes.
Oh boy, that is not fun.
But hey, you know this year, maybe in September, I'll be moving to a cheaper house.
So, can you help me move?
Yes, you will. I'm counting on you.
I'm writing your name down.
You better be there, okay?
That's the idea of the expression to count on someone.
By any chance, are you counting on me to make these podcasts?
Well, I hope so. And I promise to do my best to make them every day.
All right, let's listen two more times.
