Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
You and me every day.
Come on, let's master English!
Hello everybody and welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression.
Oh, today's expression is so nice.
You know, Friday is coming up.
Now, for most people in America and Europe, Friday is the end of the week.
Yeah, for some people, Thursday is the end of the week.
For some people, Sunday is the first, everybody's different, but anyway, in America, if you live and work in America, Friday is the last day of the working week.
Some companies have a relaxed office atmosphere.
Most companies, when you go to work, you have to wear a business suit.
you need if you're a guy you need to wear a tie the ladies need to wear a Dress or some sort of office suit even for the ladies.
It's very formal but some companies on Friday's they relax and You can wear more casual Clothes now of course you cannot wear shorts You cannot wear, you know, T -shirts.
It has to be semi -casual, kind of semi -formal probably a polo shirt, some nice slacks.
Something nice but at least you don't have to wear a suit.
In that case, we say, it's Dressed Down Friday.
Oh yeah, I'm really excited.
It's Dressed Down Friday.
I love dressed down Fridays.
Now my dad, every day, every working day of his life, he wore a suit every day.
Except when other people were on vacation.
On those days, he actually wore casual clothes and I remember sometimes people would see my dad wearing casual clothes and they would say, Oh my god, Mr. Peterson, I never saw you dress so casually.
It's pretty crazy. People can really look different but also people tend to work differently.
If they're wearing a formal business suit and if they're wearing casual clothes, the work output can be very different.
Do you think it's better or do you think it's worse?
Let's check out the dialogue and then I'll give you the answer.
Starting this week we'll have Dressed Down Fridays.
But no rags, no shorts be decent.
That's right. Dressed Down Friday, you should not be wearing, you know, ugly clothes.
You have to dress nicely.
Now, what's interesting, companies who have dress down Fridays, their productivity actually goes up because people are more excited.
People are more relaxed.
They're more happy to do their work and be done for the weekend.
Yes, Monday through Thursday, wearing a suit, wearing a business suit, very important company image, on Fridays, dress down Fridays.
Productivity actually goes up.
And I should say, of course, if you are a person who meets the customer, you never have dress down Friday.
You always have to be very professional.
Now as you probably know, if you've seen me on my YouTube channel, where I teach English, of course um i'm a coach and some coaches do wear a suit but not me yeah i tend to uh well i i try to wear semi formal polo shirts and stuff like that but sometimes i do wear a t -shirt i hope that doesn't affect your ability to study with me now that's what's nice about a podcast. You can't tell what I'm wearing.
Right now, actually, I'm wearing a tie.
Can you believe it?
I'm wearing a nice button -down shirt and a tie.
It's a gold tie and it looks very good.
It makes me look very professional.
So, be positive in the fact that your English coach right now looks truly professional.
What about you? At your job, do you have to dress in a business suit every day, on Fridays too?
Do you have a dress -down Friday environment at your office?
What about like Mark Zuckerberg?
I mean every day at Facebook is dress -down day.
Is that your company?
Let us know. That's it everybody.
Practice the dialogue two more times find a friend, find a friend to practice with and I'll see you guys tomorrow.
