Hi, this is Sophia Karman, host of Dream Big Podcast Show, place to learn, laugh, and grow.
Big Dreamers, I have a question for you, and I want you to be really honest, even just in your head.
Have you ever looked in the mirror and only noticed the things you didn't like?
Maybe your hair felt messy or your smile looked weird.
Or you said something silly in class and couldn't stop thinking about it.
Well, you're not alone.
This week's episode is about something super important, but we don't always talk about it.
Self-love.
What it really means, why it's hard sometimes and how you yes, you can learn to be your own sunshine.
This is episode 461 of the Dream Big Podcast, and it's time to dream big.
It's showtime, let's rock and roll.
Welcome back, big dreamers.
For a long time, I thought self-love meant looking in the mirror and saying, I'm awesome.
I'm the best.
But some days, you don't feel awesome.
Like if you mess up on a test.
Or if you got into an argument with your best friend or a loved one.
Or when someone made fun of your outfit and suddenly you just want to disappear.
That's when I realized self-love isn't always about feeling amazing.
It's about choosing kindness, especially when you don't feel amazing.
It's like saying to yourself, I'm having a tough day, and I still love me.
That's real self-love.
Here's a quote that I once heard and loved.
The sun doesn't ask for permission to shine.
It doesn't say, hey clouds, is it okay if I show up today?
Nope.
It just rises.
Every single day.
Even if we don't see it.
It's still there.
That's what I think self-love should feel like.
Not perfect.
Not loud.
But steady.
Reliable.
Yours.
Big Dreamers, let me tell you about someone who inspires me.
Lizzy Velasquez.
When she was a kid, people were really mean to her because of how she looked.
She was born with a rare condition that makes her look different.
And someone even made a terrible video calling her the world's ugliest woman.
But you know what Lizzie did?
She stood up.
She spoke out.
She even gave a TED talk about loving yourself no matter what.
And now, she's an author, a speaker, a world changer.
Not because she never got hurt, but because she learned to shine anyway.
Big Dreamers, if you want to be your own sunshine, try this.
First, say something kind to yourself every morning.
Even if it's just, I'm doing my best today.
Write a sticky note to remind you of that.
Number two, celebrate small wins.
You made your bed, that counts.
You helped someone, that counts too.
Number three, catch your mean inner voice and talk back.
If it says, You're not good enough.
You say, I'm learning and I deserve kindness.
Then shut that voice out.
Your challenge this week, big dreamers?
Be your own sunshine and share light.
Write a list of five things you like about yourself.
Not what others say, what you know.
And then share a little sunshine with somebody else.
Give a compliment.
Send a smile.
Say thank you.
Because here's the truth.
When you shine from the inside, it's impossible to go unnoticed.
Big dreamers, remember, you don't have to be perfect to be powerful.
You don't have to have a million likes to be loved.
You just have to show up with kindness, truth, and heart.
That's all for today, big dreamers.
