Alright. Today's expression is very good.
It means ordinary or regular.
The expression is run of the mill.
Run of the mill. Coach Shane, he's just a run of the mill guy.
Coach Shane lives in a run of the mill small town.
Coach Shane drives a run -of -the -mill car.
Regular, regular, regular.
Coach Shane, he's just a regular guy.
He's not too rich. He's not too poor.
He didn't go to a great school.
He didn't go to a nothing school.
Just regular, just regular.
Coach Shane lives in just a regular normal small town in America.
Uh, you know, just a couple hundred people.
Uh, a church, maybe two churches.
A bank, a grocery store, a gas station.
That's it. That's it, just a regular run -of -the -mill, ordinary, plain, P -L -A -I -N town.
Coach Shane lives in a run -of -the -mill house.
Yeah, look at Shane's house.
And I don't own it, I just rent.
But it's just really basic.
It's you know just it's just a house.
It's a run -of -the -mill House, it's a great expression check out the dialogue Where did you grow up in a run -of -the -mill?
American neighborhood a suburb.
Yep a neighborhood of little pink houses a Regular normal typical common ordinary plain neighborhood.
Just a typical, you know, just an everyday neighborhood, nothing special.
Boring. Almost that is the nuance.
That's where this guy grew up.
And he says the last sentence, a neighborhood of little pink houses.
Yeah this is actually kind of a popular expression from a song by John cougar melon camp in the 1980s and then again in the 2000s by a country singer Kenny Chesney they talk about little pink houses and I've never really seen little pink houses but the idea is it's a run -of -the -mill neighborhood so why pink I don't know I don't know run -of -the -mill so why do we say run of the mill, what is a mill?
M -I -L -L, well, the easiest image to think of is a factory, okay, a factory.
And in America, where I live, when I was a kid, we had many paper mills.
So, what they would do is they would get trees or parts of trees, and then they would cut it all up and make it into paper, and all of the paper was the same.
It was nothing special, there was no color, It was just regular paper it was the run of the mill the basic ordinary common plain typical every day paper run of the mill paper That's the idea.
It's the typical thing made in the factory That's the idea you guys have a fantastic day, and I'm serious I want you guys to join DDM and perf those classes are not Run of the mill English classes.
