Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane, and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to daily easy English expression, the podcast.
All right, guys, today we have a great word to understand.
And that word is flabbergasted.
I was flabbergasted.
It was flabbergasting.
I was flabbergasted.
He flabbergasted me.
Now, we usually use it to describe how we feel.
So I was flabbergasted.
Instead of the word flabbergasted, what word can we use?
Well, there's an easy word, but I'll tell you after you listen to the dialogue.
When John told Sally he did not smoke, I was flabbergasted.
Oh, maybe he quit. He was smoking five minutes earlier.
Oh, and then he quit.
Maybe. John is a liar.
Sally asked him if he smoked and he said no.
But five minutes earlier, he was smoking.
He's a liar. So when we heard him lie, we were flabbergasted.
We were shocked. Instead of flabbergasted, you can use the word shocked.
Let me spell that for you.
S -H -O -C -K -E -D. Not that word, Shane.
The other one. Oh, flabbergasted.
Are you ready? F -L -A -B -B -E -R.
G -A -S -T -E -D. Ooh, that is a long one.
But the spelling is like it sounds, flabbergasted.
Flabbergasted. I was flabbergasted.
I couldn't believe it.
I was shocked. It was amazing.
And usually we use this word in a negative situation.
So sometimes we can be shocked and surprised and amazed at something good.
But when we use the word flabbergasted, it's usually something bad.
And not good. Yeah, I was flabbergasted.
He's a liar. Oh my God, it's terrible.
When was the last time you were flabbergasted?
Me, to be honest? Just yesterday.
My mom sent me a text.
And I'll be honest, it was a bit rude.
The text from my mother was rude.
And I was flabbergasted.
Yeah, you know, family can do that.
Sometimes family will say not nice things.
But hey, you know, what can you do?
It's family. Yeah, they're family until you die.
And then still they're family.
Anyway, flabbergasted.
Shocked. You guys have a great day.
