Cody, wanna hear a story?
Yes, I do.
Can I please help tell it, too?
Yes, listen close.
Let's imagine and rhyme.
It's Cocomelon Storytime!
Grandma's gonna pick you up soon, Cody.
Are you ready to go?
I'm... I'm scared, Mommy.
What's making you feel scared?
I haven't been to the park Grandma's taking me to before.
Do I have to go?
It's okay to feel scared, but I think you'll have fun trying something new.
You know, this reminds me of a story from the Cherokee Nation.
Cher-o-key?
Cherokee.
The Cherokee people are the largest Native American tribe, with their own language, history and culture.
I think you're gonna like this story.
I call it, Come Out and Play, Baby Bear.
There once was a family of bears.
Mommy Bear, Daddy Bear, and Baby Bear.
Roar!
That's right.
Winter had just ended.
So it was time for them to wake up from their hibernation.
That's when some animals sleep through the winter and wake up in the spring.
That's a really long nap.
It sure is.
Mommy Bear said, Time to get up, Baby Bear.
Let's go outside and play.
But Baby Bear heard strange noises coming from outside.
He didn't know what those noises were, but he thought they sounded scary.
Baby Bear did not want to leave anymore.
Daddy Bear and Mommy Bear looked for a way to get their Baby Bear to go out and play.
Daddy Bear whispered What if we bring some of the amazing gifts from outside inside to show Baby Bear how wonderful nature can be?
Then he might not be so scared.
First, Mommy Bear got some honey with a friendly beep.
Taste this honey, Baby Bear.
There's more outdoors.
If you can go outside, it can be yours.
Did Baby Bear like his treat?
Oh, yes.
The honey was yummy and sweet.
But then Baby Bear heard the strange noises again.
Honey was the best snack he ever tried.
But he was too scared to go outside.
What did Mommy Bear and Daddy Bear do next?
Daddy Bear brought him another gift.
A leafy twig from a fallen tree.
Scratch your back with this twig.
There's more outdoors.
If you go outside, they can be yours.
Baby Bear scratched his back and it felt great.
So did he want to go outside?
Well, he heard the scary sounds and they made him want to wait.
The last gift Mommy Bear found was some cool fresh water as she scooped up from a peaceful flowing stream.
Sip this water, Baby Bear.
There's more outdoors.
If you go outside, it can be yours.
Ah!
All the gifts made Baby Bear feel curious and brave.
Maybe I will try leaving the cave.
Baby Bear hopped out of bed when suddenly the strange noises sounded even louder.
And Baby Bear was even more scared than before.
Mommy Bear asked, what's wrong, Baby Bear?
I kind of want to go outside, but it sounds really scary out there.
Mommy Bear gave Baby Bear a hug. and saw the gifts in his paws.
She realized she could show Baby Bear what was making those noises using his gifts.
Hear that, Baby Bear?
That's just the buzzing bees.
Baby Bear smiled and ate another bite of honey.
And that is the sound of the leaves rustling on the trees.
The wind makes the trees dance.
Baby Bear smiled and made his leafy twig dance too.
But what was that?
It's not as scary as it may seem.
That's just the sound of the flowing stream.
Baby Bear let out a roar.
He didn't feel scared anymore.
Because now he knew who was making those noises.
Exactly.
So Baby Bear got up, stretched his arms wide, and he finally took his first steps outside.
Baby Bear could do it.
Right away, Baby Bear felt the warmth of the sun.
Then he heard a familiar whoosh.
It was a soothing gust of wind that hugged Baby Bear's whole body.
He heard the bees buzz in their hive and thanked them for sharing their honey.
Then Baby Bear found a giant oak tree and listened to the leaves rustle as he scratched his whole back.
The tree was much bigger than his leafy twig flowing stream.
Baby bear listened to the rushing water and then dipped his feet right in.
Baby bear was glad he went outside.
There was so much to do.
He faced his fear and tried something new now.
He had so much to explore.
He felt so excited he let out a roar.
Do you still feel scared, Cody?
Nope.
I'm all ready to go to the new park with Grandma.
We can explore it together.
That's wonderful, Cody.
Have fun exploring.
We heard a story.
Yes, it's true.
And I helped tell it, too.
We listened, imagined, and made some rhymes for Cocomelon Storytime.
