Well, I was down on my last dollar, then I started saving.
Because the bank said fiscal restraint is what you're craving.
So I put my earnings in a high-yield account.
Let the savings compound and the interest mount.
I'm optimizing cash flow, putting debt in check.
Now time is my friend and not a pain in the neck.
And we've got a little cash to rebuild the old deck.
Boring money moves make kind of lame songs.

Should I start my Christmas shopping in autumn?
Thanks for asking.
You've probably noticed that as soon as the back-to-school season ends, stores start filling their shelves with chocolates, garlands and advent calendars.
For many of us it feels like an early jump into the holiday spirit, before we've even figured out our Christmas plans.
But beyond the sometimes overly eager marketing by big retailers, there might actually be some wisdom in getting a head start on your end-of-year shopping.
And a recent report from John Lewis revealed that a fifth of people in the UK are set to begin their Christmas planning in November this year.
Why is that then?
There are a few good reasons for the early start.
First of all, stores are far less crowded during this time of year compared to the holiday rush.
That means you can stroll leisurely through the aisles, find the items you want and avoid those never-ending checkout lines.
But beyond the convenience, it's discounts that attract these forward-thinking shoppers.
Especially in toy stores.
The festive products you spot on shelves in September or October are actually end of season items that the stores are trying to clear out before receiving their new stock for the year.
Consequently, they're often on sale and can lead to substantial savings.
In fact, generally speaking, the longer you plan ahead, the more you can save.
In July 2023, the sun.co.uk ran an article on a travel agent from Barnsley called Jo Remston.
She claimed to save as much as £1000 on Christmas presents every year by doing her shopping up to 12 months in advance.
OK, that's great for gifts, but what about Christmas dinner?
Indeed, planning a festive meal is a bit more challenging, but it's not impossible.
First, from an organisational standpoint, if you're doing the cooking, it's a good idea to start planning the menu early and create a detailed shopping list.
Just like with gifts, some products are cheaper before the holidays, like boxes of chocolate where you'll often come across.
Buy one, get one free offers that won't be around come December.
Some foods can also be frozen with great success, like smoked salmon.
Just make sure it doesn't have a previously frozen label on the packaging.
Now there is one item that you can't buy too early and that's a natural Christmas tree.
Our recommendation would be to get one about two weeks before Christmas to prevent it from losing too many needles and ending up bare on Christmas Eve.
