Chinese Premier Li Chen says China and Egypt should further strengthen strategic coordination to safeguard common interests.
He made the remarks after landing in Cairo for an official visit to Egypt.
The trip seeks to bolster China's ties with Egypt and the Arab world.
Adel El Marouki reports from Cairo.
Capitalising on the outcomes of the BRICS summit in Brazil, China and Egypt are immediately set to deepen cooperation.
Premier Li Xiang is starting a two -day visit to Cairo where he will meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el -Sisi at the new administrative capital.
capital. There, the partnership between the two countries is clear, as Chinese firms built the central business district, which includes the tallest building in Africa.
China is also building the transportation infrastructure to connect this new capital with different parts of Greater Cairo.
This is something that has had a wonderful impact on the overall bilateral relations, And the figures are on the rise.
We are witnessing a golden era as far as our bilateral relations are concerned.
And let's not limit this to Teda or to the economic, Suez Canal economic zone, but also there are many projects that are in other government rates, other cities in Egypt.
Lee will be exploring ways to expand trade, which is projected to reach 17 billion US dollars by the end of this year.
Egypt will be looking to boost its exports to China and also increase the transfer of Chinese technology programmes which has seen China introduce space technology and electronics manufacturing to Egypt.
In Africa, in the Arab world, in the Middle East, and we shouldn't be the only hub, but the fact remains that we are turning into a hub.
We are witnessing an unprecedented stage of our relations between the two countries, China and Egypt, especially in the economic field, technical field, commercial field, culturally, and of course, politically.
Premier Li is also set to discuss broader cooperation with the Arab world.
He will visit the headquarters of the Arab League, where Secretary General Ahmed Abul -Gayt will host talks about the future role of the China -Arab States Cooperation Forum.
The recent developments in the Middle East and Eastern Europe show the current world order is failing.
There must be a multipolar world.
In that regard, China is very important.
China seeks to develop its diplomatic, trade, economic and political ties with the Arab world and also military ties.
Therefore, having strong Egyptian -Arab ties with China redefines global politics.
Besides business, Lee is expected to discuss regional issues with both President Sisi and the Arab League Secretary General Abul Gheit.
During the past two years, the Israeli war on Gaza and its expanded attacks on Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran have seen growing alignment between China's Middle East policy and that of the Arab world.
For decades, that has been a strong foundation for the China -Arab partnership.
That was Adele El Marouki on the Chinese Premier's visit to Egypt.
Chinese officials say the country's economy has shown strong resilience over the past five years.
The economic increment from its current development blueprint, known as the 14th Five -Year Plan, is expected to exceed 35 trillion yuan or nearly 5 trillion U .S. dollars.
The 14th Five -Year Plan ends this year.
Liu Jiasheng has more.
Over the past five years, China added over 35 trillion yuan or 4 .9 trillion U .S. dollars to its economy, equaling the combined GDP of the country's top three provinces.
crucially says the Chinese government this growth came while facing challenges posed by the pandemic and global trade wars with annual contributions to global growth as the five years overall there's been new groundbreaking progress breakthrough changes and historic achievements in economic and social development China has become the most stable reliable and unproactive force -driving development in today's world.
Innovation is what's driving that transformation.
R &D spending surged nearly 50 percent since 2020.
Investment in research is nearing OECD levels.
Breakthroughs include the Fujian aircraft carrier, homegrown C -919 jets and the world's first, the fourth -generation nuclear plant.
The Commission recognizes that developing medium to long -term plans isn't unique to China, But to persistently formulate and implement five -year plans over successive decades, achieving sustained success, is truly unmatched anywhere in the world.
That was Liu Jiaxin reporting.
For more on China's achievements from the 14th five -year plan, here's Lincoln Humphreys.
China has done a pretty great job in seven areas in particular of this development blueprint.
I'm particularly impressed by its achievements in economic development, of course, including the steady 30 % contribution to global GDP and the average growth rate of 5 .5 % over the past four years.
It's also clear the country's innovation -driven growth has been largely due to huge investments in research and development, R &D always important.
We see R &D investment in the 2024 surge nearly 50 % compared to 2020, which was the end of the previous five -year plan china's also shown its commitment to reducing energy waste by lowering energy consumption per unit gdp to 11 .6 percent it's also expanded its belt and road cooperation to more than 150 countries now and over 30 international organizations we always talk about things in dollar value or indeed yuan renminbi but in terms of public welfare china's established 125 national regional medical centers and launched a direct settlement mechanism for cross -provincial or medical bills.
In green development, China's newly afforested or reforested area accounts for a quarter of the world's total.
In new energy, China's built the world's largest clean power generation system.
Right now, a third of the country's electricity generated is green electricity.
That was Lincoln Humphreys reporting.
For more on China's achievements from the 14th five -year plan, Li Dongning spoke to Professor Qu Qian from the Belt and Road Research Center at Mingzu University of China.
Over the first four years of the period, China's economy expanded at an average annual growth rate of 5 .5%, which was hailed as being historic.
And the National Development and Reform Commission, the NDRC, says 86 % of that growth drive comes from a domestic demand.
What do you make of that portion?
Do you expect a domestic demand to continue to serve as the major growth engine?
Actually, there are two messages being very loudly and clearly presented.
Number one is the speed of the growth, and number two is the structure of our growth.
Well, 5 .5 % of the annual growth shows that Chinese growth has been reaching another level, has been stabilized.
And also, there's another message that is our economic structure has been really changed.
Well, as everybody knows, when an economy has been more and more matured, especially approaching to the threshold of the high -income level economies, usually it's domestic demand, and also the service sectors will be more than 50 % of its GDP.
And in China, I think when China is shifting gear of this economic growth, we have achieved more than 86 % of the growth coming from the domestic demand, and especially from the service sectors, including the daily services and also the R &Ds and financial services.
And all these are showing that China is really making a very successful, you know, gear shifting, you know, phase in the regard of the economic growth.
I think, number one, if I take a look at the livelihood of the people, I think in the past, you know, four and five years, Chinese, you know, people's, you know, spending in education, in health care, in pension, in education and culture and entertainment has been really been growing up.
And this has become a really important pillar for not only the GDP growth, but also for the job market.
And also, I think this is just a fundamental factor of the current past five years' economic growth.
And also, there's another level, what we call the high -quality service sectors and the demand side.
That is the research and development, as well as for the finance services and design services.
Just take a look at what China has achieved over the past five years.
Well, the Mars rover, very high -end ship with high technology like the cruiser, the LNG tankers, as well as for the EVs and renewable energies and the quantum mechanics.
And all this has been making China one of the leaders in not only the manufacturing but also in smart making as well as for the high technology.
And this round of the domestic demand has been driving the Chinese economy to a higher ground.
So to sum up, we can see that not only for the household side, but also for the industrial side, the domestic demand will in the future to be the most important driver, to be not only the driving forces for Chinese economy growth, but also a very important contribution to the world market.
That was Qu Qian with Mingzhu University of China sharing his insight on China's achievements from the 14th Five -Year Plan.
China is now redefining the image of the very brand made in China.
High -tech is playing an important role in the manufacturing sector nowadays, from precise robotics to brain -computer interfaces.
Xia Ruixue visited the Optics Valley of China in the country's central region to find out more.
liao xin ma lost mobility on the right side of his body after a cerebral hemorrhage the 39 year old could no longer work and even daily life became a challenge earlier this year he saw a news report about a clinical trial for what's known as a bci cap at tongji hospital in wuhan a device that he hoped could aid in his recovery xin ma signed up without hesitation invitation.
My dream is simple, to hold a pen again and draw.
Turning science fiction into reality, brain computer interfaces known as BCIs enable real -time interaction between the human brain and external devices, with the aim of restoring motor, sensory and communication functions in patients living with disabilities.
In China, the China Brain Project is in full swing, with neurological research included in national development plans.
In Wuhan's Optics Valley, BCI research has been underway for years, driven by a long -term vision to transform lives and serve the greater good of humanity.
The biggest advantage of our BCI cap is safety, no surgery, lower cost and greater access.
more than 40 patients like Liao Xingmao are now participating in clinical trials involving the BCI cap at Tongji hospital but this is just one of many teams advancing BCI technology in Wuhan's optics valley Wuhan Neuracom has developed one of China's most advanced implantable BCI technologies tiny electrodes can be implanted into the brain to help paralyze patients move just by thinking.
Our chip supports 65 ,000 channels, enabling richer signals, more accurate decoding and even stimulation back to the brain.
Scientists say that the BCI industrial chain is still in the early stages of development in China.
How to convert scientific breakthroughs into practical applications is a challenge already being explored.
With government backing, Neurocom partnered with another leading local hospital in BCI research. Late last year, their chip was successfully implanted into a patient to monitor real -time brain activity near a tumor, marking a major step towards clinical application.
Wuhan's optics valley named after China's first practical optical fiber in 1988 has grown into a major innovation hub spanning optics, AI, biotech, semiconductors and more.
As BCI emerges as a key frontier for major countries seeking new engines of growth and future competitiveness, China is seizing the opportunity.
The rapid progress being made reflects a full -chain innovation ecosystem, where research, industry, clinical practice and forward -looking policy are seamlessly integrated.
From brain -computer breakthroughs to real -world recovery, Optics Valley shows how science is transforming lives.
And behind it all is China's greatest strength.
Steady growth, strong innovation and rising global confidence.
And in an uncertain world, that resilience matters more than ever.
That was Xia Ruixue in Wuhan, Hubei province.
Coming up, U .S. President Donald Trump threatens more tariffs on copper and pharmaceuticals.
TikTok is building a new version of its app just for the American market.
Could this mark the end of its long -running standoff with the U .S. government?
Washington says a deal with Beijing is nearly done, But Beijing isn't exactly on the same page.
Is this really just a business move or a high -stakes political gamble?
What's the likely endgame?
And what could it mean for the future of global tech?
Don't miss this week's Chat Lounge, wherever you get your podcasts, and on CGTN Radio.
Now it's 15 minutes past 8 hour.
U .S. President Donald Trump has threatened more tariffs on copper imports and pharmaceuticals.
He announced a 50 % tariff on copper imports on Tuesday.
Commerce Secretary Howard Ludnick said the copper tariff will be imposed by August 1.
Trump also plans to announce tariffs of up to 200 % on pharmaceutical imports, adding that he will give drug makers about a year to get ready for that.
As countries try to negotiate trade deals with the U .S., there is broad consensus among trade experts and government officials that U .S. tariffs will continue to cause uncertainty around the world.
And I also think the other losers are American consumers who benefit from really well -priced, good quality South African agricultural products.
I certainly think that these tariffs have upended the world's trade operations and have caused significant uncertainty in many parts of the world.
and South Africa is not excluded from that.
This move actually extends the period of uncertainty, undermining long -term investment and business contracts and creating further uncertainty and instability.
I think in the long run it will have a negative impact on the US economy.
I don't see a win here.
Trump's tariffs are also creating a new obstacle for Los Angeles where rebuilding is underway in some neighborhoods six months after the worst wildfires in the city's history.
Contractors and homeowners say tariffs on imported materials are driving up construction costs by as much as 40%.
Critics say the federal trade policies are taxing disaster victims and threatening to prolong the recovery.
It is Jensen reports.
reports in the canyons and hillsides of Los Angeles County, many of the houses that stood here were built entirely from wood structures that vanished overnight in a wall of flames for homeowners here, deciding whether and how to build is one of the most difficult choices of their lives.
It was only a week ago today that I decided I'm going to rebuild.
I didn't want to. I'm almost 70 years old.
I don't want to go through a year and a half process.
But I saw on a webinar modular construction using steel framing.
And I thought, OK, that makes sense because steel doesn't burn and modular is a lot cheaper than custom.
Many homeowners like Ellen are forced to consider cheaper and alternative methods of construction, which has turned into a growing financial burden.
Very few of us, nobody I've talked to has gotten all the insurance money that they should have. So we don't have enough money to rebuild with tariffs and the immigration issues.
Labor is going to be a huge shortage, as is lumber.
And so buildings are going to take longer and it's going to be more expensive.
Southern California's port officials warn about the rising costs of construction materials due in large part to tariffs on imports from countries like China and Canada.
As the city and county of Los Angeles move aggressively to rebuild the wildfire areas in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and up in Altadena, to build those houses, we need softwood lumber, aluminum, and steel from Canada.
We need appliances from Mexico, furniture from China, and all of those prices are going up.
From lumber to solar panels, soaring material costs have turned what should be a moment of rebuilding into a costly uphill battle.
For many fire victims, tariffs have become a hidden tax.
And with insurance payouts falling short, some are no longer asking how they'll rebuild, but whether they can afford to at all.
Many are worried that delayed trade deals and unpredictable tariffs could have a long -term impact on the recovery of their city.
Now it is Tencent reporting.
South Korean officials are still in Washington trying to negotiate a trade deal.
Observers say the next few weeks may prove make or break in the negotiations between the two sides.
Shin Han reports from Seoul.
The clock is ticking for South Korea, with the United States set to impose 25 % tariffs on all South Korean imports by August 1st, but it does provide a little more wiggle room for Seoul to try and eke out a last -minute deal.
Now, President Trump's move is aimed squarely at what he calls an unfair $55 billion trade surplus that Seoul ran with the U .S. last year, fueled mostly by autos and electronics.
Right now, South Korean officials are in overdrive.
The country's trade minister and national security advisor are both in Washington meeting with U .S. officials to try and cut a deal.
The strategy, according to some experts, is to address U .S. complaints on access to the South Korean market while proposing a new manufacturing partnership that could modernize and rebalance trade rules.
South Korea shouldn't completely disregard the August 1st deadline, but it also needs to move away from the idea that everything has to be settled before then.
Ideally, Korea should be as proactive as possible in negotiating with the U .S., But it's especially important to carefully manage which concessions it can offer and which ones it absolutely can't.
Now there is still cautious optimism on both sides.
South Korea's industry ministry responding to President Trump's letter today calling it essentially an extension of the grace period to implement reciprocal tariffs and an opportunity to step up ongoing negotiations.
And President Trump hinting that the August 1st deadline is, quote, firm, but not 100 % firm, that could buy a precious few weeks to deliver a compromise and avoid hiking tariff rates, which currently stand at near zero under a bilateral free trade deal.
South Korea says it's willing to reform domestic rules to boost transparency and competitiveness, but wants assurances exporters won't pay the price.
Ultimately, these next several weeks could be make or break for these two traditional allies.
Now with Shin Han in South Korea.
As tariff negotiations continue between the US and the European Union, Ireland, as one of the most open and exposed economies in the bloc, is holding breath before the August 1st deadline, Ken Brown reports from Dublin.
Apple, Amazon, IBM, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Meta, global corporate giants with one thing in common, a significant presence in Ireland.
Well, the 200 ,000 people work at U .S. multinationals here in Ireland at places like this, Google's European headquarters in Dublin.
But almost half of those jobs could go, according to the Irish government, if the U .S. administration follows through on their trade war threats.
In May, the U .S. administration announced 50 percent tariffs on all European goods, which was then postponed for negotiations until July 9.
Howard Lutnik, U .S. Trade Secretary, however, has Ireland in his sights.
Howard Lutnik has said that Ireland is running a tax scam.
Is Ireland running a tax scam?
Ireland was a tax haven.
I do not believe that we are still a tax haven, but we still have a low corporate tax rate.
Now, our headline rate, 12 .5%, it's going to go up to 15%.
That is still lower than the U .S., lower than a lot of other countries.
countries. But is it a scam?
I wouldn't say we are any longer, but we are a low tax situation.
Big tech and big pharma are of massive importance to the Irish economy, but other sectors could be caught in the crossfire too.
US President Donald Trump has threatened a 200 % tariff on EU alcohol.
Around an hour from Dublin at the Great Northern Distillery, you'll find John Teeling, a legendary name in Irish business known for almost single -handedly saving the Irish whiskey industry we were the world's dominant supplier with more than 60 percent of all the whiskeys in the world a new technology came in columns the Irish industry did not adopt it Scots did and within a hundred years we were wiped out I and a colleague we established the first new distilleries the future as I said here for a little country like ours with 5 million people in total is going to lie in exports if we export 95
of what we make here over a billion dollars worth of irish whiskey was sold to the u .s last year and while that might only be a small drop compared to the record near 250 billion dollars total irish exports in 2024 ireland is putting the good stuff on ice hoping for a u .s. e .u. trade deal that ages well now with ken brown reporting from Dublin.

Trump expressed frustration with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for the lack of progress in brokering peace with Ukraine.
He is also considering additional sanctions against Moscow.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says the city has joined a federal lawsuit challenging the immigration enforcement tactics used by the Trump administration.
Bass condemned recent federal raids across the city, including a dramatic operation at at MacArthur Park on Monday, where heavily armed agents and military vehicles swept through the area known for its dense immigrant population.
It's been a threat that they, the federal government, can go wherever they want, using whatever tactics, don't even have to identify themselves, can jump out of cars and snatch people off the street.
It's just a way of creating a sense of terror and fear in our community.
It is having profound economic impact.
It is obviously impacting and traumatizing families.

The desperate scenes unfold as negotiations continue between Israel and Hamas to broker a potential ceasefire.
Coming up in business, China's consumer price index rose for the first time in five months in June.
37 minutes past the hour, turning to business.
Here's Wang Zihang.
Thank you, Tianlu. Stock markets on the Chinese mainland closed lower on Tuesday.
The Shanghai Composite Index lost more than 0 .1%, and the Shenzhen component was down just a fraction of a percent.
The Hong Kong stock market also ended lower on this trading day, with the Hang Seng Index decreasing over 0 .1%.
In Japan, the Nikkei gained almost 0 .3%.
China's consumer price index with CPI rose 0 .1 % in June, reversing a four -month downward trend.
The National Bureau of Statistics says the rebound reflects rising prices of industrial consumers and the ongoing impact of policies aimed at boosting domestic demand.
Urban prices rose steadily, while rural prices dipped by 0 .2%.
Oil price recovery helped ease downward pressure, contributing to a more stable price environment overall.
Prices of durable entertainment goods rose by 2%, and home appliances increased 1%.
Meanwhile, food prices fell 0 .3%.
Producer prices, as measured by the PPI, dropped 3 .6 % on a yearly basis, reflecting continued pressure on factory gate costs.
Authorities say they will continue to monitor inflation trends while supporting consumption and market recovery.
For more on this, Lincoln Humphrey spoke with Liu Baocheng, Dean of Centre for International Business Ethics.
Now, how do you interpret the divergence between China's modest 0 .1 % year -on -year CPI increase and the sharp 3 .6 % decline in PPI in June in terms of economic recovery and industrial health?
This picture shows some of the structural divergence, but overall it's not very impressive because the inflation rate is edged up only 0 .1 % while the PMI of the last one year has been in the contraction stage.
But with the government fiscal policy and other type of local efforts, we are not really stepping into the vicious spiral yet.
The key is to alleviate some of the concerns of the consumers.
And the other is really to give the business community, both Chinese companies and foreign companies, the right type of confidence.
Speaking of policy approach, if we cast our mind back to the start of this year, considering the first quarter focus on promoting a reasonable price rebound, bound, how effective is this monetary policy approach being in stabilizing prices, supporting growth, judging by this latest June data?
I think there are a number of policy tools in the hands of the government.
One is the direct stimulus package by giving coupons price reduction, and particularly the trade -in program where you can buy new refrigerators and trade in those old -fashioned refrigerators.
That does really create immediate impact and incentivize the consumers to buy.
That was Liu Baocheng sharing his observations on the Chinese economy.
Now local authorities across China are rolling out a mix of cultural and tourism experiences.
More than 4 ,300 major events and nearly 39 ,000 activities are planned for summer throughout the country.
To encourage participation, a series of initiatives have been launched, ranging from discount tickets and special deals to over 570 million yuan in consumption subsidies.
Meanwhile, authorities in Sichuan, Hainan and Shanxi provinces are releasing vouchers, coupons and packages worth up to 65 million yuan to boost consumption.

Germany holds a prominent position among countries with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but the task of preserving these historical and cultural treasures is not without its challenges.
Natalia Carney reports.
Some of the most progressive restoration efforts in Germany are happening here in Bamberg.
Its old town's picturesque mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architectural styles sat against authentic medieval cobblestone roads transports you as far back as the early 11th century.
Well, a very important milestone in the history of the city was the year 1007 when Henry II, at the time the Duke of Bavaria and future Holy Roman Empire, decided to build here in Bamberg a diocese.
And he had this vision to build a second Rome.
Today's vision is to balance the conservation of that history with a 21st century city.
One modern day challenge is climate change and how it affects centuries old infrastructure.
At the same time, these buildings also offer contemporary solutions.
The fact that this building has survived for hundreds of years speaks for their resilience and for the fact that they are, per se, models of sustainable development.
Building materials, building techniques, ways of city planning, the corridors that were planned for this historic city had also very important cooling function, for example.
And also there is a sense behind this old city planning.
Dozens of restoration projects are currently active in Bamberg, spanning large -scale projects such as St. Michael's Monastery through to small monument preservation and private community dwellings known as the Bamberg model.
It is argued that Bamberg has over 1 ,400 historic buildings, all of which delight some 800 ,000 tourists annually with their ageless charm.
The view from the river is so pretty that it looked like something out of a fairy tale.
I think the fact that there are many old buildings left makes Bamberg's atmosphere more special.
I came because the scenery of the river and the historic city where people live is a sight hard to find in Korea.
I think it is good to keep the old buildings as they are now because it can preserve the past of mankind and the future generations how people lived in the past. As a World Heritage Site, Bamberg is actively working with others around the world, including China, to share solutions and exchange best practices.
That was Natalia Khany, reporting.
