Coffee Break English, Season 4, Episode 7, Extra.
Hello and welcome to this week's Extra episode of Coffee Break English.
This week's main episode was all about King Henry VIII.
So, James and I are having a conversation about other kings and queens that we find interesting.
Enjoy! James, are there any kings or queens from history that you find really interesting?
Well, I like the story of King Edward VIII.
He became the king of the UK in 1936, but then he abdicated in the same year.
Oh yes, he abdicated because he fell in love with a woman who was divorced, didn't he?
And he wasn't allowed to marry her and be the king as well.
That's right. He had to make a choice and he chose love.
He abdicated and they got married, and they stayed married until he died in the 70s.
That must have been a really difficult choice.
I really like Crown Princess Mary of Denmark because I love the story of how she became a princess.
I've never heard of her.
What happened? Well, she's from Australia and she was just a normal woman with a normal life.
Then she met the Crown Prince of Denmark, Frederick, in a pub in Sydney.
He was visiting Australia for the Olympics in the year 2000.
They fell in love and she moved to Denmark with him.
A few years later, they got married and she became the Crown Princess of Denmark.
Wow! That's like a real -life fairy tale.
So she moved to the other side of the world for love and she became a princess.
Yes. She also had to learn Danish, of course.
She learnt very quickly.
And now people say that she speaks Danish like it's her native language.
That's impressive. Let's listen to the conversation again.
A little faster this time.
