Coffee Break English, Season 3, Episode 5, Extra.
Hello and welcome to this Extra Episode for Episode 5 of Coffee Break English.
Do you remember that we focused on how to express the future in the main episode?
Well, to help you practice, here's a conversation between Josie and Mark about their predictions for the future.
Enjoy! Josie, what do you think the world will be like in 100 years?
I think lots of things will be very different.
People probably won't use gas and coal, and energy will be generated using water, wind and the sun.
I hope so. I think people will also use other types of energy that haven't been invented yet, so we can't imagine them.
Yes. Do you think that people will still drive cars in 100 years?
I'm not sure. If they do, they will all be electric, and they will be very different to the cars we have today.
It's likely that most people will work from home, and children won't go to school, so people won't need to travel as much as they do now.
Why don't you think children will go to school?
I think schools will be virtual, and that children will put on a virtual reality headset in the morning for their lessons.
That's an interesting idea.
I think if children go to school, it's unlikely that they will use paper to write.
Paper probably won't be used at all, and no one will be able to write, only type on a computer.
But what about books?
Do you think that books won't exist?
I think they will, but they will all be electronic, so libraries won't exist.
Only online libraries.
Well, I like reading real books, so I'm glad I won't be alive in 100 years.
Maybe you will be alive.
You never know. Scientists might work out how to make us live forever.
I'm not sure how I feel about that to be honest.
Let's listen to the conversation again, a little faster.
