Can men have multiple orgasms?
Thanks for asking. It's well known that women can often have multiple orgasms in succession, an ability which is much less common and more complex for men.
That's because for men, orgasm usually happens alongside ejaculation, which is followed by a refractory period.
During that time, no matter the type or amount of stimulation, it's impossible for them to achieve another erection.
This phase gives the body time to recover before it can respond to sexual stimuli again.
So are you saying it is possible for some men to have multiple orgasms in a row then?
Yes, that's right. Although the definition of multiple orgasms is pretty vague, because the topic hasn't been widely researched, even among sexologists.
In 2016, researchers from the University of British Columbia reviewed the scientific literature on male multiple orgasms Their findings identified two types First, sporadic multiple orgasms which involve a few minutes of rest between each orgasm And secondly, condensed multiple orgasms which occur in rapid
succession with no refractory period allowing for two to four orgasms within seconds.
However, the researchers emphasised that men who can do this are a rare exception.
Only about 10 % of men in their 20s and less than 7 % in their 30s seemed this ability.
So if you're not part of that lucky group it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you.
It just means you're not one of the fortunate few if you like.
Is there any way to train yourself to become multi -orgasmic?
There's no definitive proof, but some experts have recommended techniques that might help men experience multiple orgasms.
One example is contracting the pelvic muscles when arousal peaks, in order to prevent ejaculation.
That's because if you don't ejaculate, the refractory period doesn't occur, and you can continue having sex.
That process can in theory be repeated two, three or even more times before the final orgasm, which is typically accompanied by ejaculation.
