Pina! Hi, I'm Adam Gidwitz, host of Grim, Grimmer, Grimest.
On every episode, we tell a grim fairy tale.
Not the cute, sweet versions of the fairy tales that your children have heard so many times, no.
We tell the real Grimfairy Tails. They're funny.
They're weird. Sometimes they're a little bit scary.
But don't worry, we rate every episode grim, grimmer, or grimest, so you, your child, your family can choose the episode that's the right level of scary for you.
Tune in to Grim, Grimmer, Grimest, and our new season, available now.
Hello? Oh, hey little man! Quinton! Quinton, it's you!
Sure is. I thought I'd give you a video call.
Quinton, I'm so glad he called, but I thought you were a way on vacation.
I am. I'm away on a big trip all around the world.
Today, I'm on a boat sailing the Adriatic Sea.
The Adriatic Sea. Where is that? It's in Europe, right near Italy.
And it is really beautiful. But I miss getting to see you, buddy.
So I want to call and say hello. Aw, I miss you too, Quentin.
I wish you were here so we can go on an adventure together.
I know. It's hard to be apart from people we love.
But hey, I was thinking maybe even though I'm far away, we could still go on an alphabet adventure today.
Would you like that? Would I? Of course!
But Quentin! If you're not here, how can we go on an alphabet adventure together?
We're just gonna have to use our imaginations.
And I know you have a big imagination, Alfie.
You're right. I do. So let's go. All right.
Hold up a second. This is an alphabet adventure, right?
Right! So... Oh! We haven't talked about what letter our alphabet adventure will be about!
Exactly, little man! But... I think you're at an age now where you can ace that question.
Age? Ace? A? The letter A? Yep. No better place to start an alphabet adventure than with the letter A. So, what sound does the letter A make?
Well, letters can make different sounds.
Like A sometimes makes the sound at, like Alfie.
That's my name. But it makes other sounds too.
Like long A makes the sound of its name.
A. So long a makes the sound a a You got it now little man, so Are you ready to go on a fantastic alphabet adventure?
Hey, OK. But where are we going to go? Well, because we're using our imaginations, we can go anywhere.
So, if you could go anywhere, where would you like to go, Alfie?
Wow! Anywhere? How about outer space? I think we can make that happen.
Now close your eyes and imagine a distant planet in a far away galaxy.
Great. Now keep those eyes closed. What do you see in your imagination, Alfie?
We're on a planet. Way in outer space. Everything is purple and green and they are crazy trees shaped like ice cream cones I like the way you imagined little man sounds like a great planet and Listen, I see a little green guy, a little shorter than you have been, and he has eight eyes and some floppy tentacles.
What could he be? Oh, I'm not sure, Quincy.
OK, I'll give you a hint. It starts with the letter A and the sound A. A.
Is it an alien? Yes, an alien. That's right, Alfie.
Oh, wow. Alien starts with long A. Alien.
I have always wanted to meet an alien. I'll meet you from another planet.
Wow. Well, if you want to meet an alien, now's your chance.
Why don't you introduce yourself? Oh, hi little alien.
Alien? I'm Alfie. I think he likes you Alfie.
I'll come too. Hey, little alien. We're on an A adventure today.
I think you should explain about the sound, Alfie.
Alien! The letter A can make the sound long A, like an alien.
Can you say A? A. He made the right sound, Quinson.
A. He sure did. Why don't we all say it together a few times?
A. A. A. A! A! Nice job, little alien! A!
That is a really smart alien. True. I bet he gets an A in English class.
Hey! Well, we should probably let our alien friend get back to his walk around this super cool planet of his.
And we should probably get ourselves back to Earth.
Okay. Bye, alien. Nice to meet you. Hey!
That little guy's pretty cute. So Alfie, ready to blast off through our imaginations and head back home?
Okay, Quentin. Should I open my eyes now?
No, not just yet. First. Let's imagine flying back home, all the way across space back to our neighborhood.
Hey, OK. Earth's sweet Earth. That was fun, Quincean.
I loved running about long A and meeting that alien.
He was funny. I'm so glad you liked our adventure and our new extraterrestrial friend.
Now, I've gotta go soon, but before I do, there's someone else who wants to say hi to you.
Who is he? Oh, that's her calling now. Hold on a second, Alfie.
Hi, Alfie. How are you doing? Miss Mixey!
Yeah, when Mixey heard I was giving you a call, she asked if she could join us for a minute.
Oh, I'm so glad you did, Miss Mixey! Quincy and I have been having an alphabet adventure about long A. Did you know it makes the sound of its name?
A. That's one of my favorite sounds. You know, I just love all of the vowels.
A, E, I, O, and you too! Did you know they all can make the sound of their names?
Do you have a song about them, Miss Mixey?
Of course I do! Would you like to hear it?
You know it! Okay, here goes! Long vowels make the same sound as their name Hey, I'll use A-I-O-U-A-A-A-A-A is for ape, the acorn that he ate.
A is for age, they all start with A A-E-I-O-U A A-E-I-O-U
That was great! Mixie, you've always got the perfect song for every adventure.
And you are my favorite adventurers to sing to, Quentin and Alfie.
Well, I just wanted to say a quick hello.
I'm so glad to hear your voices and see your faces, even if they're a little small on my phone.
I'm glad to see you too. I miss you, Miss Mixey.
I miss you too, Alfie. But I'm always just a phone call away.
Goodbye now. Hey, little man. This has been so much fun.
But I have to go now, too. Aw. I miss you, Quinson.
I miss you, too. But tell you what. How about I give you another call next week and we can use our imaginations to have another alphabet adventure?
A-OK! That sounds great, but what letter will our next adventure be about?
Ah, come on. You know I never tell. Even if you ask me a million times.
Even if I ask you? Hmm. You'll find out next week.
But for now, I really have to go. Take it easy, okay?
Okay. Goodbye, Grinson. I love you. Love you too, little man.
