I'm Lucy. How are you today? In my first podcast, we listen to all the sounds we can find around us.
There are so many sounds that we hear every day. buzzing and bumping popping humming, splashing, and knocking. soft ones and loud ones.
Big sounds. And small sounds. Long sounds. and short ones whispering in your ear quiet sounds and crashing far too noisy sounds.
Each day is filled with sound. And of course, we can make sounds ourselves too.
Did you hear that? I can make a pop sound by putting my finger in my mouth on one side and flicking it back out again.
It's quite a tricky sound to make. Maybe your grown-up can show you how to make pop sounds.
It's time for our sound adventure. Today, we are meeting Jamal and his mum and dad for a special day.
It's Jamal's birthday. On your birthday, you get to celebrate the day you were born into the world.
It's a day filled with joy, laughter and lots of love.
People often celebrate birthdays by singing a happy birthday song, blowing out candles on a delicious cake and sharing special moments with friends and family.
You might also receive fun and thoughtful gifts.
Ah! That's the sound of a balloon being blown up.
A balloon is a colourful inflatable object made of thin, stretchy material.
When you blow air into a balloon, it becomes big and round.
People often use them to decorate for celebrations like birthdays.
Balloons are fun to play with too, but be careful they can pop and that makes quite a loud bang.
Let's listen to Jamal celebrating his second birthday at home with his mum and dad.
No, no, no! Hahaha Hit, Hit, Hit! Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you! It sounds like Jamal is having a fantastic time.
Happy Birthday Jamal. Birthdays are so special.
Let's listen again and see if we can name all the birthday sounds.
Dad blows a party whistle. It's birthday party time.
That's Jamal. Hi Jamal. It's your special day.
Dad blows up the balloons one breath at a time.
Dad taps the balloon to Jamal, and Jamal taps it back to Dad.
It's a great game. Mum puts Jamal in his high chair at the dining table.
It's present time. Our mum gives Jamal a birthday present.
The present is wrapped in paper. Jamal takes the wrapping paper off the present.
It's a big red bus that makes lots of fun sounds.
Beeps and honks. What a great present. Jamar's dad hands him another present.
I wonder what's inside. It's a big yellow cuddly duck.
The duck makes a squeaky sound when you squeeze it.
Jamal likes his present. Dad picks up a box of matches.
Matches are tiny sticks. Rubbing them against a rough surface creates heat and then a little flame.
Jamal's dad uses a match to light two candles on Jamal's birthday cake.
Mum puts the cake on the table in front of Jamal.
Happy birthday, Jamal. Jamal blows out one candle and then another.
Everyone cheers. Dad cuts the cake into slices so everyone can have a piece on their plate.
Jamal eats his cake and he loves it. What a special day.
There are so many sounds you can hear on a special day like your birthday.
Shall we listen to some of them again? Can you tell me what this sound is?
It's the sound of someone blowing up a balloon.
We blow up balloons to decorate the house when we have something to celebrate.
What about this sound? Can you tell me what it is?
It's the sound of a matchstick being struck.
We use matches to light candles. But matches are not toys and we should always ask a grown up for help before using them.
Let's listen to one more sound. What's this sound?
It's the sound of someone blowing out a candle.
I wish it was my turn to blow out a birthday candle.
We heard a lot of birthday sounds today.
Let's sing a song about them. Cakes and presents laughter and joy Lighting up candles as everyone sings.
Tearing the wrapping from gifts they bring, together we share. the chill as our birthday comes once a year For every sound we learn on you will Quiet ones, noisy ones, whistles and clives.
