How can you tell if a country is LGBT friendly before moving there?
Well, there are a whole host of platforms online like Expatica and Rainbow Reload, for example, who've come up with their own rankings for this criteria.
Expat insurance company William Russell also sent out a release about its own most recent rankings in August 2024.
William Russell scores each country out of 10 based on a number of factors, safety, anti -discrimination policies, access to parental and healthcare rights, and the number of LGBT events.
So which country scored highest then?

Not far behind, Australia and Spain took the second and third spots with scores of 8 .79 and 8 .63 respectively.
Japan and Singapore were actually considered the countries where members of the LGBT community are least likely to face discrimination.
But same -sex marriage and adoption are still prohibited in the two Asian countries.
Meanwhile, it's the United States which hosts the most LGBT events, with a whopping 270 each year.
So if partying with fellow members of the community matters most to you, you may want to opt for relocating there.
Are there other ways of measuring inclusiveness?

Based on this index, Iceland ranks as the most inclusive nation, thanks to both progressive laws and a highly accepting public.
