Hello, Lindsay. How are you?
Doing great, Aubrey.
How's it going on your end?
Excellent. I have a question for you.
Do you use AI a lot at work?
I would say more and more I am using it.
And I'm trying to take courses to understand how to use it intelligently, how to prompt correctly.
So yeah, little by little, I'm starting to get it.
I think I was a little bit of a late adopter, but it's going to be a long curve.
I was reading an article this week about the best ways to use it in business.
And a lot lot of things I hadn't even thought about, right?
Summarizing meetings, of course, creating presentations and content, decluttering email, but also creating business plans, creating, you know, ideas for writing.
If someone wants to write a book, like so many things that you can do that, I feel like that's just really untapped, not untapped, but at least for me, I think there's so much potential there that I haven't even thought about yet.
Yeah, very interesting.
Decluttering email, I'd like to learn more about that, how that works.
I think we both could use I guess Gmail has an AI thing in there, but I want to learn more about that.
I do too. I think we need to look into that, right?
But I'm excited to dive into this today because I was thinking more about, I need to use it more with Spanish and French to improve my language, my skills.
But when it comes to business English, it's even more useful here because we need to save time.
And that's the biggest draw of AI is how it can save time, how it can streamline line tasks.
So when we're thinking about business English and improving our business English for work, we can use AI a lot of different ways.
Oh, for sure. Guys, we're going to get into it today, give you all the secrets on how to do this.
But first, go ahead and hit that follow button so you don't miss a single episode of All Ears English, business English.
Right, Aubrey? Exactly.
Yes. So let's dive in here.
Our first tip here is learning business vocabulary in context, right?
This is one of the biggest mistakes that we see listeners of the podcast students use, is often you're learning vocabulary, but then you can't trust the thesaurus.
Often words have several different meanings.
You have to learn it in context.
And this is something AI can help you do.
I love that idea, right?
The days of memorizing vocab lists are over.
Exactly, right? So if you think about specific fields for example so ai tools can provide a contextual analysis of phrases idioms expressions for different industries so for example what's a prompt that we could use yeah because we know it's all about the prompts it's about how we ask the ai to give us something for example how is the phrase go for broke used in marketing that is perfect for context context.
The context is marketing.
The phrases go for broke.
Exactly. And the result you get will be extremely interesting, right?
It's going to tell you how it's used in marketing to describe bold all -in strategies.
It's going to talk about when marketers are taking significant risks in brands, hoping for specific results.
And then it's talking talking about implications, right?
It implies putting all resources, time, money, effort, even reputation into one major push.
So the result you get is not just about the phrase go for broke, but it's very context specific to this field.
If you change this and said, how is the phrase go for broke used in finance or in the medical field, the result would be very different.
Oh, I love that idea.
I love it. Looking at the context is so important.
So you We don't sound out of touch, right?
There's a real danger when it comes to vocabulary that we're disconnected from human beings.
And it's fascinating, especially idiomatic language is used so differently in different fields.
So you need to know all of these little nuances and the different contexts, right?
And then the result here gave us more information about how it's used in marketing campaigns, launch strategies, rebranding, market pivots.
and there was information about tone, like how different things would change the tone and implications of related phrases.
There was such a wealth of information.
I was like, this is fascinating.
And then when I put in different fields, it changed all of that.
The intonation, the implications was all specific to that field.
Yeah. And I think we want to make sure that we take the next step and use this with real human beings, right?
We actually go, I think there is a little bit of a danger here of kind of using, because essentially AI is just giving you what's on Google.
Right. ChatGPT, all it is, is taking what's already on available online, but it's consolidating it and presenting it to you so you don't have to go to the websites and find everything.
Right. That's all it is.
It just saves you the research time.
Right. So there's a danger if we just look again, it's like the dictionary where now we're memorizing what ChatGPT is saying.
Are we actually using this at work?
Are we talking to our coworker?
Hey, does this make sense when I use this phrase?
we're taking it for to use it for connection right that's a good point and often we have noticed AI will give you example sentences that seem so formal more like what you would see in a textbook so often keep that in mind right if you're seeing you're learning how it's used in the context of a specific fields but then example sentences probably won't be exactly what your coworker would say it's more like what a textbook would tell you it's true a lot of times I've heard the term recently AI slop this term ai slop that a lot of what we're getting from ai is slop there's just a lot of it's not necessarily
all wrong but it's so generic right and it sounds so we don't want to start talking in that generic way we want to be specific and creative in how we're expressing ourselves so using it as a starting point is the key absolutely all right second we're talking about grammar checking so we know a lot of you do this with your emails for example right run it through grammarly or chat gpt to check for errors.
This is so helpful, right?
To identify and correct those grammar errors.
So for example, your prompt might be not for an entire email, but you might give it a specific sentence, right?
Please correct any grammar errors in this statement.
And then I gave a statement that I knew had errors that I grew up saying.
I used to could do that, but now I can't.
And of course the result gave me the correct grammar. I used to be able to do that, but now Now I can't.
Oh, I think we covered that on an episode when on all there's English.
Yep. Okay, love it, love it.
Yeah, so good. And Grammarly, I love it because it's just a, it's just a browser plugin, right?
So you don't have to copy your email into the chat bot.
You can actually have it correcting right there.
Even in Canva, I think it works.
It corrects your slides, which is amazing.
That's especially useful, exactly.
And it's interesting when you take it a step further to make sure there's learning, right?
you're not just sort of lazily giving it all your emails to correct right if you're paying attention to you you can then ask you know chat GPT what are errors I am making repeatedly in my emails and it can summarize and analyze for you so that you can start recognizing common errors errors that are made frequently and use that as an improvement for your grammar I love it anything anything else we want to know here about grammar and AI, Aubrey?
Yeah, we can also use AI to practice writing emails, writing presentations, and then it will give you feedback and suggestions if you want to tweak it for a specific audience or for a specific field, right?
You can use it a lot on the practice end before you have to create, you know, content that is going to be really important, that it's the highest quality possible.
Yeah, it's nice. And then And we can obviously also practice our speaking inside of our course.
We're starting to add more AI opportunities.
We're adding opportunities to have your pronunciation corrected this summer with AI in select courses, right, Aubrey?
Yes, this is so helpful to be able to instantly get feedback on your word stress, on specific phonemes, on your pronunciation so that you know if you're on track.
This is one of the trickiest things about speaking is being able to find out immediately immediately how accurate was my pronunciation.
And that's what you get immediately.
There are of course other apps that we've worked with some of them as our partners in the past. Elsa.
There's a couple of other...
Bold Voice is another one that I know of.
So if you go into the app store, there are ways, but just don't stay there.
Don't stay in these apps because it's a very limited experience of English.
Make sure you bring it out into the world and practice with people.
Absolutely. Exactly.

How can we use AI to track our progress, Aubrey?
Yeah, this I think is one of the most useful things that I have not done as of yet, but I want to start doing, right?
So you can use AI to track your language learning progress, to identify areas for improvement and provide personalized feedback.
So my husband has started doing this more and more.
I think we talked about, I'm not sure if I mentioned this on the podcast, but he has spoken so much to AI and has learned a lot about him and his responses that he can almost use it like a therapist now.
He'll say, what is something about myself that I haven't know, that haven't realized, we can do the same thing about our language, right?
What is a mistake that I am making, whether it's pronunciation, grammar, language, vocabulary mistakes, to identify those for you and give feedback.
I love that idea. This idea that it remembers things about us, we can train it.
So, so cool. That is the cool thing about, you know, that's the difference between just searching in Google versus actually interacting with the language models, right?
Yes, right? And AI can create customized learning paths based on goals or strengths and weaknesses.
This takes a little more work, right?
I kind of started trying to do this.
It's definitely easier, like in our courses, we create a study plan, we create a personalized learning path.
That's a lot of work that's done for you in the first place, right?
So, but if you have the time, and you want to input your goals and input maybe strengths and weaknesses, And this is, AI can also help create a learning path that helps you know what to focus on.
I love that. The only problem there though, is that you are alone in your learning, right?
You are in your own little world with your AI.
What's cool about our courses is that we create the study plan for you and then you're with other students going through this journey, sharing what you've done, your activities, your homework assignments, and coming to the live events.
So we have to figure out a way to make sure we're not just alone with the AI, Aubrey, right?
right? Yeah, that's a good point, right?
It's interesting. When a student signs up for our course, there's so much that you're getting, right?
The classes, the modules, but also the community, speaking, connecting with real people, right?
A lot of these things that you can be using AI to help you improve your business English at work.
This is like a one sort of a skill in a vacuum that it's not going to be the end all be all.
You are then going to want to practice with real people with co -workers you're wanting to create connection opportunities with you know the people you're working with in your everyday conversations because ai is never going to replace that human connection yes i love it and then as we mentioned on the all ears english episode you can use the archives you can use ai to search through our archives to see what topics we've covered on business english right yeah so if you guys missed this go back to all ears english just Just this past Saturday, July 12th, we did an episode called How to Use AI to
Get the Most Out of All Ears English.
And this also applies to business English.
When you either remember an episode that we did recently, or you can search specific vocabulary topics to see if we've covered it, or search specific grammar points, this is the best way to be able, if you don't remember an episode number or a title, you can use this to search and come up with that so that you can listen to the episode yeah so for example you could ask chat if business english podcast has ever done an episode on hit the big time this is an expression aubry what does it mean hit the big time yeah to be extremely successful right yes and our answer when we tried that was yes we
covered that in episode 366.
okay love it it was titled hit the big time with your business english so So if you either see this phrase somewhere, and you want to know if we have done the deep dive, given you all of the example sentences and the role play, this can help you find that episode.
And if not, if you find that we haven't done one yet, then it's a great question to send in to us so we can cover it in a future episode.
Aubrey, where can our listeners send their questions?
Yes, send them to support at allersenglish .com.
You can also leave them in a a comment on YouTube or also in a review.
Review the podcasts wherever you listen to podcasts and leave a question there.
I love that idea. Guys, go again, as Aubrey said, go and check out the first episode in this series on AI and language learning, Saturday, July 12th, how to use AI to get the most out of AE.
Aubrey, where should we leave our listeners here?
It's an exciting new world, right?
We don't know exactly where it's going to to go.
It's such a cool moment.
We'll be thinking back on this moment 50 years from now and think, wow, we didn't know what was going to happen.
Exactly. Right. I feel like all of us feel that, that AI has so much potential to be such a useful tool.
We are using it in a lot of ways.
There are so many ways you can use it to improve your business English, to practice and refine your business English.
But I feel like there's so much more that will.
So I think it's going to be be interesting and 10, 20 years to look back and see how far we've come.
Oh, for sure. Guys, hit the follow button on Business English because that is the place to come three days a week to learn with Aubrey and Lindsay and Michelle as well.
