Welcome back, everybody.
Here at the Tonight Show.
We love songs and we especially love songs written by our audience members in under an hour.
It is time for Battle of the Instant Songwriters.
Here we go.
Welcome to a battle of the instant songwriters.
Before the show we went through our audience and picked out two people who said that they were musicians.
We gave them each a made-up song title and gave them an hour to write an original song based on that title.
Here's a shot of them practicing backstage a minute ago.
Let's see what they came up with and meet them right now.
Come on over, everybody.
Welcome.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for having us.
Hi.
Thank you for being here.
Welcome to the show.
Let's start with contestant number one.
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Gus Benson, and I'm from North Carolina.
Hey, Gus!
Gus in North Carolina.
Gus, what was the title of the song that you were given?
My song is called...
The time on my microwave is right again.
And what instrument will you be playing?
I'll be playing piano.
Hey, beautiful.
All right, why don't you go over there, get ready to go, and I'll give you a big introduction.
Get ready.
Get in the zone.
This is gonna be fun.
All right, I like this.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, here to perform the world premiere of the soon-to-be classic.
The time on my microwave is right again.
It is Gus Benson.
There's something special about this time of year.
The snow is melting and the air is clear.
The past six months I have been living a lie.
I've been sleeping later and I'm never on time.
It's time to leave the bar when the hand jumps from one to three.
Gotta call a car, cause tonight I'll be losing sleep, at least.
The world is back into alignment again.
I said the time on my microwave is right again.
I've read the manuals and pressed all the buttons.
Don't even dare to get me started on the oven.
The winter's over and the daylight's been saved.
I'm so glad that my microwave's behaved.
I'm so glad that I no longer have to pretend.
Because the time on the microwave is right again.
Hey.
Come on.
That's what I'm talking about.
Give it up for Gus, everybody.
Thank you.
Well done.
Thank you for doing that.
That's fantastic, bud.
Alright, let's meet contestant number two.
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Anya, and I'm from Maryland.
Hey, Anya.
Welcome.
Anya from Maryland.
Anya, can you tell everyone what your song title is?
My FYP is All Mormon Wives and Harry Styles.

That's a good title.
Good job, bud.
Thank you.
Alright, ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the world premiere of My FYP Is All Mormon Wives and Harry Styles by Anya.
Hey, it's 2 AM, and I can't sleep, because I'm scrolling on my FYP.
Harry Styles was in one direction, but Mormon wives are swinging in both directions.
I guess my algorithm's messy tonight Showing stadium lights and Utah fights.
All the wives are on Instagram Live.
The commenters are picking sides, Dirty sodas and sparkling smiles.
American girls and He is a Mormon wise and Harry Styles And Harry Styles.
Well done.
That was fantastic.
Give it up for Anya.
Great job.
Now it is time to see who won.
So we're going to let our great audience decide the winner.
That's right.
Was it Gus?
Or was it Anya?
Looks like our winner is Anya.
Congratulations, Anya.
There you go.
You get a sweatshirt that says, I love music.
And also, you get a Tonight Show notebook for writing more songs.
And $1,000.
Thank you.
That was fantastic.
Thank you for playing.
But no one goes home empty-handed.
Our other contestant here, Gus, will get an I love music sweatshirt as well.
And a Tonight Show notebook, also with $1,000.
Come on.
Keep writing stuff.
Come on.
Give it up for your two new instant songwriters.
Stick around.
We'll be right back with Viola Davis.
Come on back, everybody.
